Mama was off work today, and our Halloween adventure included a shopping trip to Walmart where we bought ingredients for our chili dinner. But first, we went to Steak n Shake for lunch, and Chase had applesauce. He wore a Steak n Shake hat and looked very cute. Mama and Nanaw had ice cream shakes for dessert and shared their deliciousness with Chase. For Halloween night, Chase wore his vampire costume and was quite the star of the show. Mama, Daddy, Chase, Sam and Nanaw sat out in the garage to give away Halloween candy to the trick or treaters. Daddy put the propane heater outside the garage, plus two electric heaters inside, so we were toasty warm. The trick or treaters and their parents really liked the warmth of the propane heater.

Chase and Sam tried on their Rockbridge fishing scarves that Nanaw made for them. Today was Mama and Daddy's second wedding anniversary. Nanaw was going to baby-sit but their departure for dinner at Outback had to be postponed a bit while Nanaw took a trip to the dentist for drilling and crowns and all that yucky stuff. Sam’s toy of the day was his red loofah devil dog.

It was too chilly to go for an early morning walk, so Chase and Nanaw postponed their walk till it warmed up. Chase played with his toys in the living room and spent a long while in the Einstein chair. Then when Nanaw tried to take Sam’s picture for toy of the day, Chase crawled after Sam, shrieking and trying to play with him. But Sam very smartly kept his distance from the attacking baby. When Daddy was changing clothes after work, a determined, industrious Chase found a ballpoint pen and drew a long mark on his forehead. Sam’s toy of the day was his little red barn.

We now have a photo of Chase in his skeleton outfit! Mama took one Sunday morning. Chase spent a quiet, "at-home" day after the excitement of Friday night and Saturday night. He went for an afternoon family walk then wore his Rams Jackson jersey to watch football with Mama and Daddy. Chase practiced walking and took three and four steps a couple of times – a record for him. In the evening, Nanaw came to visit when she got home from Aspenhof. Daddy made tacos and Mama made chocolate chip cookies so Nanaw stayed for dinner and dessert.

First thing Saturday morning, Nanaw went to visit Chase and take pictures of him before she went out to Aspenhof. Today’s big adventure for Chase was going to Uncle Bo and Aunt Megan’s wedding in St. Peter’s and then the reception in Warrenton. Chase wore the vest and pants from his baptism suit, along with a light blue shirt and the most important thing: a dark blue skull tie. He also wore his skull hoodie jacket – very stylish. Mama says Chase was a great hit with everyone at the wedding and reception and and charmed everyone and was held by lots of people. Before he left the reception, Mama changed him into a skeleton footed-sleeper, which was also a big hit but there was no photo of it.

Chase’s first big adventure for Friday was Laptime at the Clayton Library. He wore his little tiger outfit and was quite the star of the day. When he’d crawl around the floor, people said, "Tiger on the loose" or "Tiger on the prowl." In one of the pictures, a little girl is patting him gently – she thought he was a stuffed animal for her to play with. Chase’s second big adventure was dinner at the Our Lady of the Snows Shrine with friends of Mama – Aunt Kristin, Uncle Chappie, Aunt Teresa, Uncle Dave, and Kristin’s mother and stepfather, Pat and Jim. Nanaw went also. Chase wore his big boy blue-plaid shirt and was our main source of entertainment. He sat at the head of the table in a high chair and did all of his favorite tricks – throwing his toys one by one on the floor for someone to pick up, staring with intense interest at the other people in the restaurant, smiling and laughing – quite the little charmer.

The beautiful Indian Summer weather continued today, probably for the last day, and Chase and Nanaw took an early morning walk in his subdivision. Chase continues to seem to really enjoy his new toys: Daddy’s old flip phone, his new little car – the ChaseMobile – and his Megablocks. Nanaw keeps putting Thumper the rabbit in the ChaseMobile and Chase keeps taking him out – very funny. Chase’s new nickname is "Destructo" because once again he pulled the mobile in his crib, and this time we think he broke it. Sam’s toy of the day was Mr. Tuggy-Moose.

Summer is back with its warm weather so Chase and Nanaw went for an early morning walk in his subdivision. Then Chase got to wear shorts again, maybe for the last time this year. Last night, Daddy gave Chase an old flip phone of his, and Chase seems to like it a lot. It still has a charge, and the screen lights up and a recorded voice talks to Chase, much to his seeming delight. Sam’s toy of the day was his softball.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Today was Laptime at the Telegraph Road Library. There were more children than usual – almost 20 – and Chase seemed to like having so many boys and girls to look at. Once again, he seemed to prefer girls – Remy and Isabella this time. When Mama finished working, she, Chase and Nanaw went on a shopping adventure to Kohl’s in Arnold. Mama bought lots of clothes for herself, and two sweatshirts and a container of MegaBlocks for Chase. He played with the blocks in the evening with his Mama, and she said they had a good time building things and tearing them down.
