Nanaw came to visit Chase in the morning and to let him play with her new iPod Touch, which she bought to replace the one she lost on Christmas Eve. He seemed to have a grand time with the iPod Touch, moving the apps all around and taking pictures. In the afternoon, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Fairview Heights to go to Wing Fest with Jackson and his Mama and Daddy. On the way there, Mama took a picture of Chase in his car seat but a usual, as soon as he saw the camera, he stopped smiling -- funny boy! Mama says Chase had a really good time with Jackson.

Mama had the day off so it was adventure time for Mama, Chase and Nanaw. First stop was Clayton Laptime, where Chase was his usual social, vocal self. Miss Jeannie called Mama, Chase and Nanaw the Chase group. During the story and song part of Laptime, Chase sat on Mama’s lap a little bit but mostly sat on Nanaw’s lap like he was used to. After each story or song, Chase clapped his hands and yelled "Yay!" loudly. Chase seemed to have fun playing with a little girl named Gretchen and a panda bear puppet that comes to every Laptime. After Laptime, it was shopping time. First was Bed, Bath and Beyond for a draining meat loaf pan for Nanaw and candles for Mama and Nanaw. Another store visited was Five Below, where Mama bought Chase an Elmo Lego toy. Next they went to the Galleria mall where they had lunch at Saint Louis Bread Company. Then Nanaw bought Chanel #5 cologne at Macy’s. On the way home, they went exploring to find the Transportation Museum. Then they found an Office Depot where Mama bought the clips for her cube. She went into the Once Upon a Child store next door and bought two books, a shirt and khakis for Chase. Next was PetSmart where Mama bought treats and a Halloween toy for Sam, and Babys R Us¸ where one of Mama’s purchases was an Elmo puppet book for Chase. All in all, it was a busy, happy day.

Chase and Nanaw took an early morning walk in Chase’s subdivision, and Chase took "Traveling Herman with him. After the walk, Chase and Nanaw ate breakfast outside at the Bistro, and then Chase played in the back yard for over an hour. In addition to "sweeping" with the broom and swinging, Chase played in his two dirt piles, necessitating some heavy-duty clean-up of a dusty little boy. Chase had lots of Mama’s leftover spaghetti for lunch and really seemed to like it. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went on an adventure to Walmart and then to Office Max by South County Mall. Nanaw wanted lots of Sharpies from Office Max, and Mama wanted some hanging clips that look like bugs for her cube walls – but Office Max didn’t have any. So Mama and Nanaw are going to find an Office Depot because they may have a larger selection of clips. On the way back home, Chase took off his shoes and one sock so he could play Mama’s game of "Eat the Foot."

After breakfast and an early morning walk, Nanaw took Chase on a first-time adventure: they went to the dollar show to see "Monsters University." Nanaw bought a big Monsters bucket of popcorn. Everything went well for the first half hour – Chase devoured the popcorn and watched "The Blue Umbrella," a short feature before the movie. He seemed to recognize the Disney logo (from all his watching of the Disney Junior channel) and seemed to be watching "Monsters University." Then he decided he wanted to wander around and got fussy when he couldn’t so he and Nanaw left. At least he lasted a half hour. Nanaw says they’ll try again next year. Evidently the movie adventure wore Chase out because he took a 3 ½ hour nap.

Daddy got a new iPhone 5 last night and gave Chase his old phone to play with, which seemed to delight Chase. He took it with him on his early morning walk with Nanaw and played with it most of the day. After breakfast, which included strawberries and what seems to be his new favorite fruit – kiwi – Chase and Nanaw went to Laptime at the Telegraph Road library. Chase was very loud with his yelling and clapping after every song and story. He spent a lot of time sitting at the coloring table playing with the crayons. He even did a little coloring. He also played with Nolan, a little boy about his age and size. Mama came to pick Chase up after work because Nanaw had accidentally tightened the straps on Chase’s car seat. After dinner, Nanaw went over to Chase’s house so Daddy could fix the car seat straps – and Nanaw got to spend more time playing with Chase.

Monday, August 26, 2013

Chase and Nanaw took an early morning walk before it got so hot outside. Chase had some new fruit this morning – kiwi and fresh peaches. He also had watermelon and strawberries on his fruit plate. He seemed to like the kiwi a lot and the strawberries, of course – but the peaches and watermelon, not so much. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went out to the back yard, and Chase got to swing on Nanaw’s swing. Daddy got an iPhone 5 tonight and let Chase play with it and with his old phone -- and Mama took a picture. Chase is saying a lot more words these days; some of the new ones are: "peas, please," "unh-unh," "mmh, mmh" and "puppy."
