When Chase got to school on Wednesday, the dinosaurs were down -- so sad. But they're still studying dinosaurs so that's good. Wednesday was Nanaw's day to volunteer in Chase's classroom. When she arrived, Chase ran up and gave her a big hug -- unsolicited and so sweet. He also gave her another unsolicited hug when he went outside for recess, before she left. She stayed a few minutes later helping two of Chase's classmates finish their dinosaur counting exercise. Once again, Nanaw had a wonderful time with Chase's class. She feels so lucky to be able to do activities with the kindergartners. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the Telegraph Road library. Chase returned his two Thomas books and selected two more Thomas books to check out. He only wanted Thomas books. Chase used his own library card to check out his books, and he did it all by himself. He also used the "bending machine" all by himself to get his fruit strips. When Chase and Nanaw got home, they had a great time playing a game of Bingo. And Chase won, fair and square, all by himself.

When Chase got to school Tuesday morning, there was lots of excitement in his classroom. There were dinosaurs hanging everywhere in the room. The boys and girls had a great time going around the room finding dinosaurs. Nanaw told Mrs. Herrmann she must have been busy, and Mrs. Herrmann said she had had a meeting after school on Monday so her daughter Avery put the dinosaurs all around the room. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the little park by the library again. But before they went, Nanaw made sure that Chase knew he couldn't have a meltdown like he did on Monday when it was time to go home. Nanaw told him that Mama and Daddy said if he cried when it was time to leave the park, he wouldn't be able to play with his tablet on Tuesday evening. Brady and Andrew were there and the three boys had a super time playing together. Nanaw got to talk to Andrew's mom, and she's a very nice person. When it was time to leave, Chase cried one tiny bit but it was all right and it was mainly because Nanaw decided to leave right when Chase was going to play basketball with Brady. The last two pictures below are from the dinner auction: the first one is Chase's artwork on the table that the kindergartners made, which sold for $1,500 to the grandparents who sold Market Place to Schnuck's and whose granddaughter is in Chase's class. The last picture is Mama posing with a bear from the auction -- and no, Mama didn't bid on the bear.

When Chase came over to Nanaw's house Monday morning, he wanted to play abcmouse, so that's what he did. It's been awhile since he played abcmouse. Recently, his favorite computer thing has been abcya. After school, Nanaw took Chase to the little park by the library. He was so excited to see three of his kindergarten friends there: Brady, Henry and Andrew. Chase had a super great time playing with them. The four boys ran all around the playground, playing tag and playing on the various jungle gym, slide things. Brady found a little stuffed animal on the ground and threw it up in the air. It landed on the playground covering so Nanaw found a long, long stick and managed to get it down. When Chase got home, Nanaw had him read his dinosaur book to her and Mama and Daddy. He did a really good job with the dinosaur names. Then he worked on his homework and did a good job on that. Mama texted Nanaw that Chase asked her if she made the spaghetti for dinner. She said yes, and Chase said, "It's good." That's a major incredible thing. Someday soon he's going to love his Mama's cooking, just like Nanaw does.

Sunday, February 25, 2018

Chase slept well Saturday night with all his stuffed "amamals" He woke up at about 7:30 a.m., earlier than Nanaw expected. He looked really good in his church clothes: a maroon shirt, black pants and his dress shoes -- quite the well-dressed man. Daddy picked him up for church at about 8:45. Daddy said they had a good time at the dinner auction. He said that the table the kindergartners made sold for $1,500 to the people who sold Market Place to Schnuck's -- they're Reagan's grandparents. Mama bid on and won a Bud Light Blues cooler and Daddy bid on and won a golf outing. Nanaw went to dinner and to visit Chase Sunday evening. Daddy grilled chicken, and Nanaw had wings. Mama made a delicious rice dish called stick o butter rice. Chase and Nanaw played the card game War, and Chase won, fair and square. Then Mama and Nanaw played checkers, and Nanaw lost big-time. Chase and Mama played then but it was Chase's made-up version, and it didn't last long.

Chase had a big day on Saturday. At noon Mama took him to Will's birthday party at the bowling alley in Columbia. They had Domino's pizza for lunch. Chase got to bowl and was very excited to get a spare. Mama said he had a great time with his friends from kindergarten. In the afternoon, Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house for his sleepover. Mama and Daddy were going to the ICS dinner auction at The Falls on Saturday night. Mama was very excited about going. She showed Nanaw a video of all the cool things that are up for auction. Chase and Nanaw watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Chase played with his tsum tsums and then with his tablet. He was very good about eating his dinner -- fish sticks, chicken nuggets, peas, green beans, applesauce and chocolate milk. In the evening, he had popcorn and Tang. Nanaw built a fire and lit a candle; it was warm and cozy inside and cold and raining outside. Before bed, Chase had a great time taking a bath in the big garden tub. Chase and Nanaw slept in the king-sized bed.

Friday, February 23, 2018

For the past several days, Chase has been playing with his tsum tsums again. It's cute to see him rotate the toys he plays with. When Chase got to school, he found that the boys and girls had new nameplates on their tables. The old ones were in bad shape but now they have new ones. They also each had a pencil with a note on it from Mrs. Whelan saying, "Your prayers touched our hearts." After school, Chase and Nanaw went to Dollar Tree. Chase got some tsum tsums to paint, a packet of Army guys and a Hot Wheels car, plus a package of Peeps. In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw tried to go to dinner at Merz on Main. But it was very crowded and after waiting a long while for a table, they decided to go to McDonald's instead. Nanaw forgot to take pictures of Chase on Friday so she asked Mama to take a picture and send it to her. Good old Mama sent three.

Thursday, February 22, 2018

Daddy was going into work late on Thursday so he took Chase to school. Tee Tee rode along, and then spent the day in Daddy's truck. Nanaw had her doctor's checkup and got a clean bill of health for her heart. She took a picture of one of the pictures on the wall of the examining room. It's a restaurant in Laclede's Landing where she had lunch one time during a speed reading seminar. Before Nanaw picked Chase up, she spent a little time at his house because the cleaning lady was at her house. She took pictures of Sam and Tyler and sent them to Mama. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he wanted to go to Dollar Tree but Nanaw said they were going to the library, like Chase asked yesterday. She promised that they would go to Dollar Tree Friday after school. At the library, Chase played for a long while with the eyeball Legos. Then he and Nanaw selected two easy reader Thomas books to check out for Chase. He checked them out himself at the self check-out (with a little help from Nanaw). On their way out, they stopped at the "bending machine" so Chase could get some fruit strips. He put the money in by himself and punched in the correct code. He's getting so grown-up.

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

On Wednesday morning, Chase and Nanaw walked into school with Sami and her mother; neither Chase nor Sami would zip up their coats even though it was very cold outside. Wednesday was Nanaw's day to volunteer and once again, she had a wonderful time. When she got to the room, Chase came up to her and gave her an unsolicited hug -- the very best kind. The activity for the day was painting a picture of George Washington's face. Each boy or girl had a paper plate with flesh-colored paint on it, which they spread around the whole plate. Then they each painted two black eyes and a red mouth. Nanaw helped theme with the eyes and mouth. Nanaw stayed till the end of the school day. It was very interesting seeing Mrs. Herrmann conduct an election with the class for what activity they wanted to do as a reward for a full jar of warm fuzzies. The class selected popcorn and a movie. After school, Chase watched Chase TV in the kitchen with Nanaw. When it was time to go home, Chase wanted to take a bath. Nanaw said it was too late to do that but that he could take a bath Saturday night when he has a sleepover at Nanaw's house.

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

It was raining when Nanaw took Chase to school on Tuesday morning, and they each had to use an umbrella. It rained off and on all day. Nanaw went to the dentist to get a permanent filling in the tooth that had a root canal. On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw had a special adventure: For the first time in a long while, they went to Powder Valley. They had a lot of fun visiting all their favorite displays. Chase wanted to play the scavenger hunt game again so they did. Then they did all the other activities in the little newsletter. Nanaw was excited that she got to keep Chase later than usual. Mama was going to the hockey game with Uncle Mike, and Daddy had to go to a meeting about his coach pitch baseball team. Chase and Nanaw had dinner at the dining room table again, with a candle on the table and a fire in the fireplace and music playing -- it was quite delightful. They did a little of Chase's homework, and he read the George Washington book he made at school to Nanaw and also the Lightning McQueen book. It was a wonderful evening.
