Saturday night Mama sent Nanaw a video of Chase holding the Stanley Cup that Aunt Becca made and yelling Let's Go Blues, plus a still picture of Chase holding the "cup." It's the first photo below. Mama said she and Chase played mini golf in the afternoon and had snow cones. For lunch, they went to Subway. On Sunday evening, Nanaw went to visit Chase but the visit didn't go very well. Chase had just awakened from a nap and was in a very bad mood. He had wanted Daddy to set up his slip and slide for water baseball but Daddy had played golf all day and said they would set it up next week. Chase didn't like that answer so he went into his room and locked the door. Mama had to unlock it. When Nanaw got to Chase's house, Chase wouldn't play with Nanaw or talk to her or anything. Mama and Nanaw went for a walk with Sam and Sylvester but Chase didn't want to go. Just before Nanaw left, Chase played with her for a couple of minutes and let Nanaw kiss him good-bye. Nanaw hopes she never has another Chase visit like that.

Nanaw went to Chase’s house on Saturday morning to play with him before she went out to the little house. Chase and Nanaw did three workbook pages: addition, subtraction and spelling. The subtraction page did something a little different: The problems had answers and Chase had to say whether the answers were correct or incorrect. He seemed to like the difference. Nanaw had brought Chase’s new fat bat and wiffle ball so they could go outside and play a little baseball but Chase didn’t want to. What he wanted was to build a fort in the living room. Evidently, last night, he and Daddy built a fort downstairs, and Chase had a grand time. So Nanaw and Chase built a fort in the living room. Nanaw brought in two chairs from the kitchen and draped them with lots of blankets. She also put the Gascar chair inside the fort, She gave Chase his tablet and Nanaw got her iPad, and they played Roblox together. First, they played the Roblox game Nanaw created: Aspenhof’s Place. Today was Chase’s last baseball practice; next week, Chase has his last two baseball games, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase were having a Blues Stanley Cup celebration party. Guests included: Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky, Uncle Joe, Aunt Jen, Jackson, Aunt Becca, Uncle Stan, Auntie LaLa, and Uncle Chris. Unfortunately, little Will wasn’t coming. At the little house, the DVD player wasn’t working (no sound) so Nanaw went to Warrenton Walmart to buy a new one. As she went through Warrenton, she saw that the Kroger store is closed.

Nanaw was so excited to go on a day of adventures with Mama and Chase on Friday. Mama had the day off from work. The first place they went was Soulard Market for Mama to buy fruit. It had been decades since Nanaw visited Soulard Market with Pawpaw. Nanaw used it in one of the first books she wrote -- Night Woods. She also used a column she read in the newspaper about how the columnist adopted a kitten from Soulard. The whole place was very impressive, filled with all kinds of fruits and vegetables and bread and meat and everything you can think of. Mama bought Chase a huge cube of Rice Krispy Treats; she bought a cronut for herself. Nanaw bought herself a gluten-free gooey butter cake that is absolutely delicious. The parking meters were fascinating to Chase and Nanaw. There's like a main one and you put in the number of the space where you're parked. Very interesting. On the way home, Mama took a short detour to make sure she's knows where to take Chase for his swimming lesson on Monday. They took the fruit home and then continued on the rest of their adventure. They went to Dollar Tree for popsicles and ring pops for Chase's baseball team. Next they went to Rural King and enjoyed the delicious free popcorn. Next was Walmart and the to Arby's for lunch for Mama and Chase. Nanaw had two bags of Rural King popcorn so she didn't want any lunch.

First thing on Thursday, Chase and Nanaw had school. Chase did his writing, did spelling, addition and subtraction, and several workbook pages. Chase always says he doesn't want to do school but then does a good job -- very funny. Nanaw spent the rest of the morning straightening up the house for the cleaning lady while Chase played on the laptop -- he calls it his laptop. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went to Chase's house for awhile. Chase was very happy to play with his tablet. Next Chase and Nanaw went to Walmart. On the way, Chase read his two daily books: Noodles -- I Am Brave and Clifford's Busy Week. Mama was having dinner at Tequila's with her friends Becky and Barb to celebrate Barb's retirement and so she couldn't go to Chase's baseball game. Mama says she saw Chase's classmate Evie and her Mama at Tequila's. Nanaw went to the game. Nanaw bought a new lightweight folding chair so she didn't have to carry her heavy Cardinals chair. It was really hot outside but at least there was a breeze. Nanaw sat with Cole's mom, and they had a nice chat. Tomorrow Mama has the day off work; Chase, Mama and Nanaw are going to Soulard Market and Walmart. They're going to find other adventures, too.

Chase's adventure on Wednesday was going to the Columbia Library for Tales to Tails, where boys and girls read books to rescue dogs. The program this summer has two dogs: Fred and Bella. Fred is the dog that Chase has read to a couple of times. So Chase was hoping he'd get to read to Fred, not Bella. And he got to read to Fred! Yay! When Chase and Nanaw got there, Fred stood up and came over to them, wagging his tail, licking them and wanting to be petted. Nanaw didn't see Bella but Chase says she's black just like Fred. Chase read one of his favorite books to Fred: "Wally Woof's Missing Bone." Chase looked like he was having a good time and so did Fred. On the way to and from the library, Chase read his daily books to Nanaw: Frosty's First Christmas and Mr. Penguin's First Christmas. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw had a long school session. Chase colored circles for the Columbia Library reading program, wrote out his quick brown fox sentence, did a subtraction workbook page, an addition workbook page, a spelling workbook page and a capitalization workbook page. He also did flash cards for the 2s, 3s and 4s.

Tuesday's adventure was a visit to Powder Valley. Nanaw has decided that Powder Valley is her favorite place they visit. She asked Chase what his favorite place is, and he said his favorite is the Zoo. I bet that's Mama's favorite place also. On the way to Powder Valley, Chase read one of his books to Nanaw: Star Wars: I Am a Droid. As usual, Chase climbed up on the big frog at then entrance to Powder Valley, and Nanaw took his picture and sent it to Nanaw. They visited all their favorite places but Chase decided he didn't want to do the scavenger hunt. He wouldn't let Nanaw come into the tree house because he said the sign said no big people allowed. (When Nanaw told Mama about that, she was very proud, and said Chase followed signs just like his Mama.) The first time Chase and Nanaw looked for their friend, the turtle who buries himself in the rocks in the aquarium, they weren't sure he was there. But the next time they looked, he had poked his head up through the rocks, and there he was. Very exciting. Chase had a baseball game on Tuesday night, and he did really well. He had five at bats with one strike-out and four hits. He also got two outs at third base. Nanaw was so proud. She's okay with him not playing soccer. He told Mama he didn't want to play soccer because he's not very good, and that's okay. He's really good at baseball, and that makes him happy.

Chase and Nanaw had fun on Monday playing with Chase's collection of play food from home, his play food at Nanaw's house and his little play kitchen. He also played with his dentist Play Doh. Chase and Nanaw went to the Columbia Library to turn in some of Chase's reading record. He got a library book bag, lots of coupons and a big balloon. He also got 24 raffle tickets that he could distribute for prizes he wants. Nanaw had to write Chase's name 24 times on the tickets. Nanaw took pictures of the four prizes Chase liked, and they're included below. After the library, Chase and Nanaw went to Dollar Tree and bought lots of water guns and other water toys for Chase. When they got home, Chase wanted to play in the water so he put on his swim clothes and filled up his wading pool. There was a hole in the pool, and sweet little Chase ran into the house to get a band aid for the pool. Of course, it didn’t work but Nanaw will try to think of a way to patch the pool. Uncle Mike came to cut the grass so Nanaw didn't go to Chase's baseball game until later, after Uncle Mike left.

When Nanaw got home from the little house, she went to Chase's house for a steak dinner. Before dinner, Nanaw and Chase went downstairs to play with his new field hockey stick that Daddy bought for him at their visit to Dick's Sporting goods today -- it cost $50, which is a lot for a hockey stick, Nanaw thinks. Then Daddy and Chase went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. Chase said when they got home, they played hotel downstairs. Chase said they gave invisible keys to invisible people for invisible rooms. Mama had lunch at Maggie's with her friend Charles. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw did some schoolwork with his workbook pages. Then, Chase, Mama and Nanaw played with Chase's Army guys. Then they played restaurant. Chase was the waiter, and Mama and Nanaw were the customers. Nanaw made a menu and Chase had a notebook to take orders. First he took drink orders and delivered the drinks. Then he took food orders and delivered the food. Finally, he gave them their bills and their change. It was so cute. Next, they all took the dogs for a bonus walk, and Chase rode his bike. When they got home, Chase, Daddy and Nanaw played restaurant again. Nanaw was the waiter. Daddy ordered Mountain Dew and pizza. Chase ordered green apple Fanta, a cheeseburger and fries. Nanaw forgot Chase's fries when she delivered his food, and Chase said, "What about my fries?" Very funny.

Saturday, June 22, 2019

Nanaw went to visit Chase Saturday morning. It looked like rain so she took her umbrella in with her. Nanaw brought lots of schoolwork with her. Chase said he would do five workbook pages. He did one spelling book page, one reading page and three math pages. He says he’s really good at math so we’re going to build on that. Somehow he sometimes gets the idea that he’s not good at some things. So Nanaw wants to reassure him that he’s good at things. Mama thinks that’s the reason he doesn’t want to play soccer this fall. After schoolwork, Chase and Nanaw went to Chase’s room to play with his stuffed animals. They had a funny game of baseball, using stuffed animals as the bats. Next they went downstairs and played hockey and bowling with Chase’s marbles. Chase told Nanaw all about his golf adventure and Edge adventure with Daddy yesterday. In the afternoon, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to cousin Alexander’s graduation party. Mama sent Nanaw pictures of Chase because Nanaw forgot to take any.

Nanaw had another half day with Chase on Friday. Daddy had the day off; he had a dentist appointment in the morning, and when that was done, he picked Chase up about 11 so they could have a father-son adventure. They were going to play golf at the course next to the miniature golf course. Chase and Nanaw had lots of fun in the morning. Once again, they played with the kinetic sand the Play-Doh dentist. Nanaw made teeth, while Chase used the drill and made braces. Then they did cool stuff with the kinetic sand. Next, Chase asked Nanaw to make a fort for him to play in. So Nanaw attached a blanket to chairs at the dining room table and the couch. Chase used the cushion from the deck chaise lounge as the floor for his fort. He and Nanaw brought in his mega blocks and his stuffed animals, and he put them in the fort to play with. After Chase was finished playing in the fort, he and Nanaw picked up the blocks and the stuffed animals and put everything away. Then they went outside to practice playing golf. Chase told Nanaw all about golf clubs: woods, irons and putters. Nanaw didn't realize that he knew that much about golf.

Chase has been talking about today being his half birthday, when he's seven and a half. So first thing this morning, Chase and Nanaw went to Walmart to buy him a half birthday present. First, Chase picked out two donuts as his birthday cake. Then he selected two special toys: a dentist Play-Doh set and kinetic sand. He was so excited about both of the toys. On the way to and from Walmart, Chase read the day's two books: Elf Pets and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Chase seems to like the idea of reading the books Mama sends in the car with Nanaw; it works out really well. When Chase and Nanaw got home, Nanaw set out the donuts with the candles you can't blow out; Chase had lots of fun with the candles and finally was able to actually blow them out so the stayed out. Then, they set up the dentist Play-Doh and the kinetic sand on the kitchen counter and played with them until 11 a.m., when it was time for Nanaw to take Chase home. Mama and Daddy were taking Chase to the orthodontist for a diagnosis about braces. Mama said the appointment went well. The orthodontist said things looked good but that Chase should come back in December for another check-up. Daddy was off work so in the afternoon, Chase stayed with Daddy and they went show shopping. In the evening. Chase had a baseball game, and Nanaw went to watch.
