Nanaw was happy to have bonus time with Chase on Saturday. Mama and Daddy were getting ready for their party tomorrow so Nanaw invited Chase to come over to her house and play with her. Mama dropped Chase off at Nanaw's on her way to the grocery store. Nanaw had left the Legos out on the kitchen counter, and Chase and Nanaw played with them for a long while. Then they decided to go to a park so Chase could do Ninja Warrior obstacle stuff. Chase chose Suson. Unfortunately, because it was Saturday, the playground was crowded, which is a no-go for Chase. So they went to the big park in Columbia. Fortunately, at first, there were no other children on the playground. Then, a few children came but Chase didn't seem to mind. He had a great time, with Nanaw telling him what obstacles to do and then timing him. Next, they went back to Nanaw's house for lunch, and then Nanaw took Chase home. His Aunt Ginny was there visiting; she'll be there at the party on Sunday. Mama said Chase told her he wants to be a bartender at the party. Then he wrote Live Music 1 p.m. on the whiteboard. Mama asked him what the live music was, and he said Daddy was going to play the guitar, and he was going to sing. LOL!

Friday was Field Day for Chase at school. He wore his tie-dye shirt and was excited about the sack lunch of a turkey sandwich. When Nanaw picked him from school, he said he had a really good time at Field Day. Mama had said Chase might want to stop by his house and pick up his guys but Chase said he didn't want to do that. When they got back to Nanaw's house, Chase was happy to see what Nanaw had set up for them to play with. Nanaw put Chase's Legos on the kitchen counter so that they could build Ninja Warrior obstacle courses. There were all kinds of severe weather warnings, and Chase was concerned about the severe thunderstorm warning, the tornado warning, and the hurricane headed for Florida. Despite the bad weather, Mama and Chase went to Jackson's house in Fairview Heights so they could go to Wingfest. Mama said Chase and Jackson and had a wonderful time. Chase got a yellow snake that he named Sam the Snake.

Chase was the first student in his classroom Thursday morning, and he was happy about that. He always wants to be first. Mrs. Meyer was there with her two children, Carmen and Dominic and her two nephews, who all go to ICS. Chase showed me his Arthur picture hanging from the ceiling and told me the water fountains were taped up because of the boil order. Chase got his Field Day shirt for tomorrow: he's tie dye again this year. When Nanaw picked Chase us, she saw Evie and Emma's puppy, named Sky. Nanaw took a picture of Sky to send to Mama. Chase and Nanaw had another great afternoon together, with no laptop, playing in Chase's room with various toys and watching Chase TV. Chase told Nanaw he was going to Ninja Warrior Camp on September 15. He's very excited about it. Chase had lots of homework to do: his reading and writing his 16 spelling words in alphabetical order three times. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Culver's for dinner and then to Costco to buy supplies for Mama and Daddy's party on Sunday.

Nanaw was so happy to take Chase to school again on Wednesday morning. She's so happy to have her life back. The boys and girls in Chase's room showed Nanaw the pictures of Arthur that they drew and hung from the ceiling. Nana didn't get to see Chase's picture but he said he'll show it to her on Thursday morning. Chase and Nanaw had a wonderful afternoon. When Nanaw picked up Chase, they had to race home because Chase had to go to the bathroom badly. Nanaw had some math problems for Chase to do then Chase and Nanaw had a great time playing in Chase's room. They watched Chase TV, and Chase pretend boiled the plastic bugs they bought yesterday at Dollar Tree. He was fixing them for Berry the peacock; he said peacocks like bugs. Then Chase spread all of his stuffed animals on his futon. He played with his toy vacuum and then Nanaw gave him her carpet sweeper and he went through the whole house and actually swept up some stuff. It was the first time in a long while that Chase didn't play on the laptop, and that made Nanaw happy.

Nanaw was so excited to take Chase to school on Tuesday morning. Mama dropped him off at Nanaw's house on her way to work. Nanaw was happy to see Chase's new school and his classroom again. The lockers are in the classroom, which is a cool idea. When the lockers were in the hall, things were always falling out on the floor, and it was quite a mess. On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw went to Dollar Tree where Nanaw spent $20 on toys and candy for Chase. When Nanaw took Chase home, he saw an Amazon box on the front porch. He said it was for him. He said Daddy bought Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course steps for him. Daddy set the steps up in the back yard, and Chase did his obstacle course. Mama sent Nanaw a picture of Chase jumping on the steps. Mama and Chase did his spelling and reading homework, and then they colored. Mama said they made cards; they made cards for Tee Tee and Berry. Mama made a card from Berry to the Jacks. How wonderful Nanaw's family is!

Wednesday, August 14 to Monday, August 26

For almost two weeks, Nanaw was out of service and didn't do Days of Chase. But she's all better now so that's good news. On Wednesday, August 14, Chase and Nanaw went to Suson Park so Chase could do his Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course. In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to Marie's for ice cream before Chase's first day of second grade. Thursday, August 15 was the first day of school, and Mama and Nanaw took Chase to school. It was the first time Nanaw had seen the new school, and it's absolutely beautiful. For the first time, Chase has a desk instead of sitting at a table. Four of the desks are pushed together so that it's still like a table. On Friday, August 16, in the afternoon, Nanaw didn't feel well so she had Mama take her to the Emergency Room at Saint Anthony's / Mercy South. They couldn't find what was wrong with her and she left about 11:30. For the next week, Nanaw was extremely tired and couldn't drive to take Chase to school or pick him up so Mama and Daddy did that. Mama brought Chase over to visit Nanaw everyday, which was wonderful of Mama. Mama also took Nanaw to her doctor appointments. Nanaw is so lucky to have Mama as her daughter. On Saturday, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Columbia Days, and Chase got to hang out with his friends Brady and Hunter. On Sunday, August 18 Mama and Chase went to the Zoo and had a super time. On Monday, August 19, Mama took Nanaw to her doctor, and then brought Chase over to visit Nanaw. On Tuesday, August 20, Uncle Mike took Nanaw to her ultra sound appointment, and Mama brought Chase over to visit Nanaw. Nanaw didn't go anywhere on Wednesday, August 21 or Thursday, August 22, but Mama brought Chase to visit. Mama got all dressed up for Thursday night's Bags and Bubbly gala. On Friday, August 23, Mama took Nanaw to her doctor again. This time, the doctor did an EKG and said that Nanaw was in atrial fibrillation, and that she should go to her heart doctor. The doctor arranged for Nanaw to go to the heart doctor, and she took her EKG results. The heart doctor agreed that she was in atrial fibrillation, and he scheduled a cardio version (shocking the heart back into normal rhythm) for her on Wednesday, August 28. He also prescribed a new, expensive medicine for her ($200 a month). Nanaw started to feel better even before she took the new medicine (a mental thing, she's sure). On Saturday, Nanaw felt even better, much less tired. Mama and Chase went to Purina Farms with Auntie LaLa, Uncle Chris and little Will for lots of rides and food and extreme fun. There were lots of Ninja Warrior type things, and Chase was ecstatic about that. On Sunday, August 25, Mama and Chase went to Uncle Mike's so Chase could go swimming, even though it was chilly outside. He also had fun playing ping pong. On Sunday evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to the Magic House for Wells Fargo Night. (Nanaw was feeling much better but she rode the elevator instead of walking up the steps. On Monday, August 26, Mama and Chase took Nanaw to the heart doctor for her to get another EKG to see if she was back in normal rhythm and could cancel the cardio version. And she was! Yay! So now she can go back to normal. Chase stayed at Nanaw's house when they got back from the doctor. They built houses and cars and Ninja Warrior Obstacle courses from Lincoln Logs. Nanaw drove Chase home, the first time she'd driven since August 16. Another yay!

Chase and Nanaw had a major adventure on Tuesday. They went to the Train House (the Museum of Transportation actually but Chase and Nanaw call it the Train House.) Nanaw was sorry that Miss Lynn wasn't there -- she doesn't work on Tuesdays. Chase looked at the circus train and the erector set train, and then was ready for his popcorn. They walked around looking at the trucks inside the lobby and also all new displays in the display cases. Nanaw asked Chase if he wanted to go to the Creation Station for one last time, for old time's sake but he said no. They did go and look inside the door. Everything looked the same except for a car that one of the kids was driving. When they went outside, they found a beautiful garden that had hidden plastic ladybugs that you were supposed to find and then hide again -- but not too hard. Chase had a good time finding the ladybugs and then hiding them. After that, they rode on the train. On the first trip around, they counted the dog bones but missed one of the first ones and only ended up with nine. The next time, they got it right and had ten. Nanaw offered to take Chase to Suson Park to play on the Ninja Warrior playground but he said no, he wanted to go home. At home, Nanaw got out one of the packets of his papers from first grade, erased the answers and had him do it again. He only did the first few pages so he'll work on it again tomorrow.
