When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her that he found his Weekly Writing paper; it was in his bin, where he thought it might be. He said he had lots of homework. He brought his clarinet home from school, and he did quite a concert for Nanaw back at Nanaw's house. He's really good at playing the clarinet and seems to enjoy it. Nanaw asked him if he was going to join the jazz band but he said he thought he'd stay with the regular band. After the clarinet concert, he started doing his homework at the dining room table. He had homework in math, history, science and religion, plus doing his Weekly Writing. With Weekly Writing, he chooses a topic each week from a monthly list of about eight topics. This week he chose to write about flying cars. Each week he has to write half a page in cursive. Nanaw proofread his writing and had him change a couple of words (spreaded and costed -- LOL) and had him cross a couple of t's he forgot to cross. He does a really good job of writing, and Nanaw is very proud of his ability. On the Iowa State test, he was in the 96th percentile in creative writing.

Tuesday, November 8, 2022

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told Nanaw that two of the boys in his class went home sick during the day. Chase is hoping he doesn't get sick and that when he was sick a week ago, that took care of him being sick. He had math homework, and one of the questions was to write your own word problem. Chase did a really good job in writing the word problem; Nanaw was very proud. Nanaw thinks that math is Chase's favorite class. He can't find his weekly writing papers. He turned it in Thursday, and he isn't sure if he got it back. He thinks it might still be in his bin. He's going to look there tomorrow, and if it isn’t there, he'll talk to the teacher. In the evening, Chase had baseball hitting practice. It was one-on-one, and Daddy said he thought Chase would do better with that because he could concentrate on what he was doing and wouldn't be distracted by his friends.

Mama and Daddy had the day off work on Monday so they took Chase to school. Nanaw picked up the new Jurassic World movie from the library. So Mama made a plan for Movie Night on Friday night, with Mama's special movie-style popcorn. They'll be having another movie night when the Top Gun - Maverick movie is available. There are 250 requests ahead of Nanaw's. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he wasn't sure if the teachers had given him the work he missed on Friday when he was at Rockbridge. So Mama emailed the teachers to ask if there was work he should be doing. The teachers emailed Mama back, saying that he was all caught up. Nanaw is continuing to do the homework reminder notes for Chase, and they seem to be working well. Chase had math homework with an algebra problem. He didn't want to do the equations or unknowns; he just wanted to do the numbers. Nanaw will be interested to see how the teacher grades his answer.

Rockbridge: Friday, November 4, 2022 - Sunday, November 6, 2022

Friday was the beginning of the family's annual trip to Rockbridge. Everybody was excited and happy about the next three days. They stopped in Rolla at Panera's. Panera's had put in a new self-ordering system -- an order entry computer where customers choose what they want. At first, nobody knew that was the new way to order but Aunt Becky figured it out. When they got to Rockbridge, they found that they didn't have the adjoining rooms they'd reserved last year. Someone else had been given one of the adjoining rooms. Nobody was happy about that. The best and most exciting thing about the fishing trip was that Chase went fishing each day -- and a couple of times on Saturday. He didn't catch anything but he said he had a bite and was doing good casting. Daddy agreed about the good casting. Mama had a good time going to the grist mill. Nanaw couldn't walk up the hill to the room so they rented a golf cart on Saturday, and the rest of the time Daddy chauffeured Nanaw to the lodge so she didn't have to walk up the hill. Chase and Mama had a disagreement Saturday night about Chase getting ice cream in addition to having dessert. But they worked things out on Sunday, and Chase got ice cream in the morning. Also Nanaw bought Chase a hedgehog named Harry that's going to live at Nanaw's house. They took along a picture of nephew/cousin Dan and included it in pictures with trout Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky caught. It was a wonderful trip, as always. Mama, Uncle Mike and Nanaw wish they won the $2 billion Powerball so they could buy Rockbridge and live there. The seventh photo is Chase fishing in the "meat hole" in his waders. The second to last picture is a Facebook memory photo of Chase at Rockbridge from several years ago. The last photo is of Chase with Harry, the new hedgehog.

Thursday, November 3, 2022

Chase and Nanaw tried out their new reminder system on Thursday, and it seemed to work. Chase remembered to turn in the homework he was supposed to and he remembered to bring home the things he needs to work on over the weekend. So Nanaw is going to try the system for a while. Lists are always good and helpful maybe Chase will learn to make his own lists. After school, on his own, Chase did his vocabulary assignment. They got a new vocabulary text book, and he submitted the assignment to Google Classroom on his Chromebook. Nanaw got out his box of special Hot Wheels to take along to Rockbridge. Mama asked Nanaw to bring along the Uno Attack Machine. Nanaw asked Mama to get some back-up C batteries in case the ones in the machine weren't working. For snacks for Rockbridge, Chase also asked Mama to get him some Funions and some sour cream and onion Lays chips. Chase decided that Nanaw's two stuffed lemurs, Hank and Biggie were going along on the Rockbridge trip. Nanaw asked Chase what games they were going to play on the car ride, and Chase said he didn't know yet.

Wednesday, November 2, 2022

On Wednesday, Chase got a little confused about all of his homework. He forgot to bring some o it home, and he wasn't sure about some of it. He had a religion test on Thursday, and he read over the study guide but didn't want Nanaw to quiz him on the content. Cole's mom texted Nanaw about the religion study guide; Cole had forgotten to take it home. So Chase and Nanaw took pictures of the study guide and texted them to Cole's mom. All of this convinced Nanaw that she and Chase needed to come up with a system to help him remember what homework he had and when it was due and what study materials and homework to bring home. So Nanaw created a reminder form about homework and tests, with one copy for Chase and one copy for Nanaw. Nanaw taped Chase's copy to the front of his agenda; she put her copy in the front seat of the car so she could remind Chase about what he was supposed to bring home when she dropped him off. Then when she picked him up, she used the reminder to make sure he brought home everything he was supposed to. Hopefully, this process will help Chase remember all the things he needs to about homework and tests.

Tuesday, November 1, 2022

Mama and Chase brought all his Halloween stuffed animals Tuesday morning to Nanaw's house. They were all so cute -- a pumpkin and lots of ghosts. Nanaw reminded Chase to bring home his science homework that he didn’t do because he was absent Thursday. But when Nanaw picked him up from school and asked him if he had his science homework, he said no. So Nanaw made him go back into school to get it. And he went without protest, which made Nanaw very happy. What didn't make Nanaw happy was finding out that he didn't bring home the study guide for his history test tomorrow. And Nanaw forgot to remind him about the test. Nanaw texted Cole's mom and she sent Nanaw pictures of Cole's history study guide. Chase and Nanaw studied the study guide. Chase knew a lot of the material but there were still things he didn't know. Nanaw doesn't know if he can do well on the test. Chase did his science homework and his math homework. He also did ten minutes of AR reading. In the evening, Chase did his religion homework with Daddy.
