Happy Halloween! Everybody had a wonderful Halloween. Chase started off the holiday by deciding he didn't want to wear his Angry Bird costume. First, he didn't want to wear the pillows, then he didn't want to wear the costume at all. He wanted to wear his skeleton costume. Good for Mama to think of having a back-up costume. Mama rules! With the skeleton costume, Chase didn't want to wear the mask, hands or feet. Mama eventually got him to wear the mask for a few pictures, but that was all. After Mama and Nanaw took Chase to school, they took Sam for a walk. Then they went back to school to help with Chase's Halloween party. It was wonderful fun. Mama was in charge of the cookie decorating station, and everybody loved it because they got to eat the cookies after they decorated them. The boys and girls also played a ring toss game, did a craft where they painted their hands black and made a spider, played pin the nose on the pumpkin and read books together. They had lots of treats and candy. One of the moms made super cute orange buckets with a ghost and their names on them. Chase used his as his Trick or Treat bucket. After the party, Mama and Nanaw went to Costco, Dollar Tree, McDonald's and Papa Murphy's pizza place. Mama carved the two pumpkins and baked the pumpkin seeds but unfortunately the seeds burned. After dinner (pumpkin-shaped pizza for Mama and Chase and white bean chicken chili for Nanaw and Daddy), Chase went trick or treating -- first with Mama and Daddy and then with Mama and Nanaw. The little fellow was really worn out and kept asking if they could go to the last house -- it was very precious. All in all, an absolutely perfect Halloween -- especially the weather, which was pleasantly warm.

Nanaw hurried home from the little house in order to go out to dinner with Mama, Daddy and Chase for Mama and Daddy's 6th wedding anniversary. They went to Outback, one of Mama and Daddy's most favorite places. Chase had grilled cheese; Daddy had salmon; Mama and Nanaw had steak. They started dinner with a blooming onion. It was a wonderful dinner and a wonderful time. After dinner, Mama and Daddy went to Ronnie's to see the movie "Keeping Up with the Joneses," and Chase and Nanaw went home to Chase's house. Chase and Nanaw played for a little while, then it was time for Chase's shower. It was Nanaw's first time giving Chase a shower and she got soaked. Mama says that happened to her too with Chase's first shower but that it gets better when you learn how to stay out of the water. Chase really loves taking showers. After Chase's shower, Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky, Cheyenne, Nichole and Kathleen came by on their way back from visiting Natalie at Rolla. They brought two Halloween flamingoes for Mama and Daddy's anniversary present. Chase had a grand time running around the front yard with them.

Nanaw went to visit Chase on Saturday morning. He had a new "puppy in his pocket" mini winebag that Mama gave him so now he has three: Jessie, Max and Karen. Mama and Daddy got him to drink his chocolate milk but it was a struggle. No one can figure out what has happened that he doesn’t like chocolate milk anymore. He used to love it and drink so much of it that Nanaw thought he might be drinking too much chocolate milk. What a mystery. Chase was going to have a very busy day on Saturday. First, he and Mama and Daddy were going out to Troy. Missouri with Uncle Chris, Uncle Chuck and Aunt Becca to sign some papers on the property they own in Silex. Then they were all going out to lunch at a pizza place called Mr. D’s; it’s the place where Daddy had his very first job. Then in the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase were going to the Blues hockey game, and Chase was going to wear his hockey jersey that cousin Nichole got for him a year or two ago.

Chase's adventure on Friday was a trip downtown to the Science Center. He was happy about going, especially because one of their new display areas is now his favorite places at the Science Center. They have a huge indoor and outdoor display that's called Grow. He especially likes to play in the water area where they child size water pumps for the children to pump water into little buckets. Then the children dump the buckets into a special water wagon -- very cute and entertaining. There's a big building as part of the Grow outdoor display, and Chase was fascinated with a soybean display that had little silver balls running through a box that resembled a pinball machine. Chase spent a lot time getting the silver balls up and down the display. He and Nanaw also went to the dinosaur room, the dinosaur dig, the sand area, the smoke tunnel, and the air ball area. In the evening, Mama invited Nanaw to go along with Mama, Daddy and Chase to Culver's. Nanaw had never been there, and because Culver's is known for its ice cream, Nanaw decided to have ice cream for dinner. She had a large hot fudge sundae with pecans and whipped cream on top -- totally yummy.

Chase's adventure for Thursday was a visit to the Train House. Chase and Nanaw were excited to see a friend who works at the Cliff Cave Library there with her grandson Calvin. Her sister Nancy and Nancy's grandson Charlie were also there. Calvin and Charlie are three but they still had fun playing with Chase and running around the circus train. The Train House is getting ready to work on the huge Christmas train display, and Chase and Nanaw are excited about that. They invited Mama to go with them to see the Christmas train display the day after Thanksgiving, and Mama said she would be delighted to go. Chase and Nanaw made a craft with Miss Linda -- a pumpkin man. Chase played with all his usual things -- the train tables, the bus, the wooden vehicle table, the car on the wall, and the magnet toys. When Chase and Nanaw left the Train House, Chase said that his ear hurt so Nanaw gave him some Tylenol when they got home. Nanaw called Mama and said she would take Chase to the doctor Friday morning if his ear still hurt.

Nanaw had planned for Chase to go to Powder Valley after school but it was raining hard so they went home to play instead. Chase got his first progress report today, and he did okay. A couple of Ms. Carrow's comments were really cute. She said he can speak clearly enough to be understood "but very softly." Mama and Nanaw are not sure which little boy Ms. Carrow is talking about because the Chase they know definitely does not talk softly. Ms. Carrow also says Chase is working very hard to write and use pencils and pens and crayons. After school, Chase and Nanaw played in his room, and Chase played lots with his Cars cars. When Nanaw took Chase home, he was very excited because Mama had a "puppy in a pocket" mini winebag waiting on the kitchen table for him. Mama looked at Chase's progress report and read some of the more unrealistic expectations and kept saying, "He's four years old, for heaven's sake." It was very funny.
