Chase says Happy New Year! Mama and Daddy had to work today so Chase and Nanaw played with Chase’s new birthday and Christmas toys. Mama got home early from work, and she fixed lots of yummy food for New Year’s Eve. Uncle Will-Bill, Aunt Becca, Uncle Stan and Nanaw came for New Year’s Eve. Chase seemed to like having company and he certainly liked Mama’s New Year’s Eve feast, including meatballs, Little Smokies, Hooters wings, and rye bread pizzas. We had some snow today and one of Nanaw's neighbors built a snowman -- very cool.

Chase spent most of Sunday in his Magic Kingdom (aka the living room). He and his Daddy continued Phoebe and Will's work of the previous night in putting together some of the toys Chase received at his birthday party. Chase was right beside his Daddy, being a good little helper.

Chase had his biggest adventure of all today -- his first birthday party. Mama invited almost 70 people and booked the party at the clubhouse in Nanaw's subdivision. Chase waited at home while Mama and Nanaw picked up the cake and ice cream and set up for the party. Nanaw put balloons up to help people find the party -- the wind blew some away so she put up more. About 45 people came to the party, including friends of Mama and Daddy and family on Mama's side and Daddy's side. The party went really well – Chase had an amazingly great time – smiling and walking around. He even stayed nearby while Will helped him open his presents. After the party, two of the people who came back to Chase's house for an after-party were 12-year-old Phoebe and 6-year-old Will. Phoebe and Will had lots of fun putting together and then playing with some of the presents Chase received at his party.

Chase had two major adventures today. First, was Laptime at the Clayton Library. Miss Jeannie was back after an absence of several weeks. She was very surprised and amazed at how well Chase is walking. After story time was over, he spent a lot of time kicking one of the balls around the room, while holding a shaker toy in each hand. He also seemed to enjoy exploring and discovered both of the doors to the Laptime room. After Laptime, Chase and Nanaw went on a shopping adventure, looking for a Barnes & Noble bookstore so Nanaw could buy her cat of the day calendar. They discovered that the store on Watson Road is closed so they headed to the store at Gravois Bluffs. But that store only had the same calendar Nanaw had already bought and which she doesn’t care for. Mama called to see how things were going and suggested they try the calendar kiosk at South County Mall. That’s where they finally found the cat a day calendar for Nanaw – Yay! As always, Chase was an excellent shopper. Chase ate lots of good things today – fruit and cereal, Puffs, Cheerios, cheese cubes, and chicken fingers and rice from last night’s dinner. Sam’s toy of the day was his red loofah dog Nanaw gave him for Christmas.

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Chase and Nanaw spent a quiet day, playing in his "Magic Kingdom" (aka the living room) with his new toys from Christmas and his birthday balloon, which is his current favorite. He even had to take it with him in high chair when he ate. He took a long, two-hour nap in the morning and woke up as Mr. Cheerful Smiley Chase. For lunch, he ate more of Mama’s crock-pot pizza, plus baby strawberry-banana yogurt, puffs and banana. He’s getting better about drinking real milk from a sippy cup. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw tried out the new car seat Mama bought for Nanaw's car. Sam’s toy of the day was his green loofah dog Nanaw gave him for Christmas.

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

Mama was off work on Wednesday, and she and Nanaw and Chase spent the day together, watching movies and playing with Chase, with no shopping involved. Chase played with his birthday balloon with great delight. He seems to love Mylar balloons – he still plays with the one from Uncle Mike’s birthday a month ago. In the afternoon, Chase went to Dr. Charles for his one-year checkup. He got lots of shots and had blood drawn, and it was all very traumatic for everyone. Chase weighs 20 pounds 10 ounces and is 29 ¾ inches tall; his head is 18 ½ inches in circumference. Nanaw stayed for Mama’s yummy experimental dinner – crock-pot pizza from the cookbook Pawpaw gave Mama. Chase slept through dinner but when he woke up seemed to really like the crock-pot pizza.

Tuesday, December 25, 2012 -- Christmas

Chase had three major adventures on Christmas Day. In the morning, he opened his presents at home -- a sports arena toy from Mama and Daddy, and a book, and a new stuffed puppy from Sam and the cats. Santa Claus gave Chase the two Santa Paws movies and another book. At noon he and Mama and Daddy went out to Wentzville to Grandma Pat’s for lots of delicious food, including ham, which he had for the first time and which he seemed to really like. For presents, Chase got another Jingle (which made Mama happy because now she can have one of her own), a nifty guitar, another Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed book so that now he can have one at Nanaw’s house. In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Sam went to Nanaw’s house for turkey dinner leftovers with Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky. For entertainment, Mama smashed a chocolate Santa with a hammer, and Uncle Mike read Christmas trivia questions for us to answer – Aunt Becky was the champion, and Chase was fascinated with Uncle Mike.
