Chase was very excited about Field Day on Friday and about wearing his tie-dyed ICS Field Day shirt. Nanaw took a picture of it when she picked Chase up. When they got back to Nanaw's house, Mama called to say she forgot to put sun screen on Chase. Nanaw said she would look for hers but she couldn't find it. So they went back to Chase's house, and Mama sprayed Chase with sunscreen. Nanaw wasn't paying attention to the time, and they got to school really early. Chase was the first one in the class -- that probably won't ever happen again. Mrs. Neff had all the overhead lights on for once so Nanaw liked that. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he had a great time at Field Day. He left his water bottle in the classroom so Mrs. Eplin loaned him one. On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw stopped at Dollar Tree to get more dry erase markers. Chase also got a yo-yo, a glow in the dark sword and a glow in the dark Jason mask. They went downstairs to play school, then Mama picked Chase up at 4:30 because they were going to Wingfest with Jackson and his Mama and Daddy. Chase was really looking forward to it and said he remembered it from last year.

Thursday, August 30, 2018

Nanaw looked up what was for lunch for Chase on Thursday; it was toasted beef ravioli. Chase didn't think he'd ever had that but when Nanaw told Mama about it, she said he'd had ravioli before. In his classroom, Mrs. Neff asked him if he wanted beef ravioli for lunch, and he said yes. Nanaw told Mrs. Neff that he'd said he hadn't had it before but that he'd try it. Mrs. Neff said that was a great attitude. When Nanaw picked Chase up, she asked about lunch, and he said the ravioli was good. Success! He brought home his Field Day shirt for him to wear tomorrow, and it's very cute -- it's tie-dyed and very colorful. He also brought home his copy of the school yearbook and was distressed to see his picture under kindergarten. Nanaw explained that it was from last year. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to Dollar Tree. Nanaw took a picture of the wall of Halloween decorations and sent it to Mama, telling her she had to come see all the wonderful things they have. They bought the most stuff ever -- $24.66 worth. They bought pumpkins to decorate, an erasable slate, pretend fruit and vegetables for Chase's kitchen, cooking pans and utensils for Chase's kitchen, Barf, a US map and pointer, tiny pumpkin paddle balls, pencil sharpeners, a Bingo game, a bag of candy, an extra gumball machine and bubble gum -- plus other things Nanaw can't remember. They also bought two presents for Mama; Chase picked out Halloween stickers for her, and Nanaw picked out skeleton hands that are salad servers or tongs. Uncle Mike came to cut the grass, and Chase was happy to see him. When they got home from Dollar Tree, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play school. Chase had Nanaw hang the US map up on the wall in the schoolroom, and he used the pointer to find places like Tennessee for his visit there, Florida for his vacation there, Missouri, Illinois, and Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase were going to CostCo to buy supplies for their party on Sunday; then they were going out for dinner. The first picture below is one from five years ago that Mama just posted again on Facebook.

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

It was raining when Nanaw took Chase to school, and he had his Paw Patrol umbrella with him. Fortunately, he remembered to bring it home with him. Nanaw gave Mrs. Neff a headphone set and an over the ear ear buds for the children to use. She also unwrapped Chase's package of earbuds so they're ready for him to use. When Nanaw picked Chase up, Brady had his water bottle again; Nanaw doesn’t know how that happens and Chase doesn't seem to know either. After school, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play school. First, they did Chase's homework because he has a soccer game in the evening. He read a Biscuit story and drew a picture of Biscuit. Then he and Nanaw drew pictures of houses and trees and tornadoes. Very interesting. The soccer game was very good, and Chase and his teammates played hard. Chase is such a dear, sweet boy.

Tuesday, August 28, 2018

When Chase and Nanaw were walking into school on Tuesday morning, they saw the school's priest, Father Carl, carrying a cage with a big white bunny rabbit in it. He laughed and said the school has a new student. On Nanaw's way out, she saw the bunny in the cage sitting on the sidewalk outside the door to the school so she took a picture of it. After school, Chase told Nanaw he didn't have to go to the observation deck or have a timeout, making Nanaw and Mama very happy. Chase and Nanaw ran errands, including a visit to the cemetery where they saw a Mama deer and her two babies. Nanaw took pictures of them. Next they went to the Telegraph Road library where Chase didn't want to do the scavenger hunt but he did want Mike & Ike candy out of the "bending machine." When they got home, they went downstairs and played school in the pretend school room. Chase took all his people downstairs with him, and everybody did a lot of spelling words. Chase read a story out of the Biscuit book and also did a page in the Breakfast Brain Bites workbook. Nanaw went for a walk in the evening and saw the white kitty far from home so she took a picture to send to Chase. Mama called Nanaw to see if she knew where Chase's Thomas backpack and his people were. Unfortunately, Nanaw forgot to bring the bag in the house when she took Chase home. So the people had a sleepover with Nanaw.

Monday, August 27, 2018

When Nanaw went to pick Chase up on Monday morning, Mama told her that Chase was waiting in the bathroom with a surprise to show her. So Nanaw went into the dark bathroom and saw something glowing on the counter. It was Puck (a stuffed bear) wearing a glow in the dark tee shirt that Chase had outgrown. What a sweetheart Chase is! After school, Chase wanted to play school with Nanaw. The schoolroom downstairs was a bit of a mess so Nanaw had Chase play on the computer (he calls the laptop his computer lab) while she straightened up the room so they could play there. Chase wanted to do spelling so he had Nanaw write out lists of spelling words. He read them all for Nanaw but didn't spell them. Maybe tomorrow he'll spell them. While they were playing, Chase told Nanaw about the observation deck and timeout in first grade. Evidently Chase got in trouble for talking and had to go to the observation deck (Mama found this out in the evening). Then while he was in the observation deck, Mama said he said he made faces and had to go stand in the hall for his timeout. So Mama and Daddy talked to Chase about his behavior. Hopefully, it will help.

Saturday, August 25 and Sunday August 26, 2018

Nanaw was so excited because Chase and Sam spent the weekend with Nanaw at the little house! Mama went to a winery with Aunt Becca and Daddy played golf with Uncle Chris so Nanaw got the boys -- Yay! Nanaw picked Chase and Sam up about 11:30 Saturday morning, and they headed out to the little house. Nanaw gave Chase another ROBLOX set she bought for him as a weekend surprise. Chase brought a bag of stuffed animals, his Mousetrap game and the flat piano Nanaw bought him for his kindergarten graduation. Nanaw brought all kinds toys for him to play with, including his big basket of Hot Wheels and other cars, marbles, rocks, ROBLOX figures, his Merry-Okee microphone, and his keyboard (it was a musical weekend). He and Nanaw played with all the toys and spread them all over the place. Chase also played with the construction toys that live out at the little house. Chase also played ROBLOX on the laptop and on the iPad. Chase ate lots and lots, including a ham sandwich, honey bun, sunflower seeds, fish sticks, peas, green beans, powdered sugar donuts, cheese sticks, squeezable yogurt, applesauce, and Veggie Straws. After dinner, Nanaw took Chase and Sam down to the big lake. They walked around the lake, stomped on the troll bridge, went across two walking bridges, visited Nanaw's canoe, and most exciting of all, saw someone fall in the lake out of a toppled canoe (he was fine). Nanaw wore Chase and Sam out on the long walk. Chase was so tired he fell asleep at 9 o'clock. Sam slept on the bed all night long, something he never does. Nanaw took Chase and Sam home at noon; she was sad to leave them. It was a wonderful, fun weekend.

Friday, August 24, 2018

Mama had the day off so she took Chase to school and picked him up. So Nanaw sort of had a vacation day. After school, Mama took Chase to the eye doctor for his annual exam, and he passed with flying colors. He also got a good grade (an O for outstanding) on his first spelling test. Yay, Chase! Nanaw went to visit Chase at about 5:30. They played soccer for awhile, then Chase read a Biscuit story to Nanaw. Then Mama, Daddy and Chase had dinner. Next they went to Chase's church for an evening adventure. It was sort of a get-together, with food and then the major part of the evening: ice cream sundaes and root beer floats. Supposedly only the children were going to get ice cream but there weren't many people there so the parents (and grandparents) got ice cream also. Chase and Brady ran around the big room at the church with other boys and had a great time. Nanaw played with Emma and had fun with her.

Thursday, August 23, 2018

When Chase and Nanaw got to school on Thursday, Nanaw saw that Chase had been moved to the table next to his, trading places with Evan. Chase hadn't said anything about being moved. He's now at a table with Henry, Amelie and Lizzie. Nanaw finally met Evie even though Chase is no longer at her table. She has red hair and is very cute. She was with her Mama, who must be in the service because she had on a military uniform and hat. After school, Mama had Nanaw do Chase's reading with him because he had a soccer game in the evening. First, he read Pete the Cat: A Pet for Pete, and did very well. He had to draw a picture about the story, and he drew a picture of Goldie the goldfish in a fish bowl -- very cute. Then he read a story in the book he brought home from school -- the story was What is a Pal? Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to Fairview Heights for Chase's soccer game. His team did very well -- the two teams were evenly matched and it was a good name. Jackson Stine's Mama Aunt Jen came to visit during the game. Jackson and his dad were at cub scouts.

Wednesday, August 22, 2018

When Chase got to Nanaw's house Wednesday morning, he wanted to go play on the laptop right away. He seems obsessed with abcya (from computer class) especially since he now chooses the first grad option instead of kindergarten. Nanaw gave his new library card to Mrs. Neff. Cole's Mama told Nanaw that she found out what to do with the green folders. You give them to Mrs. Neff; she looks inside to see if there are any papers being returned, and the she puts them in a pile waiting for the end of the day to go home. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he showed her some marks on his cheek under his left eye. He told her he tripped over a tree root at lunch recess and fell down and hurt himself. He said he cried, and the teacher on the playground came over to make sure he was all right. He was very excited about some of the papers in his green folder. One of them was supposed to be signed by Mama and sent back to school on Thursday. He had another speech test and passed with flying colors. The person testing him wrote "Great job!" When Nanaw took Chase home, he showed the paper to Daddy and told him "I passed my test, just like you." It was so cute. At Nanaw's house after school, Chase played abcya on the laptop again. In the evening, he told Mama that he wanted Epic, the online service for digital books, so Mama ordered it for him. Nanaw is going to put it on her iPad and laptop for him.

Tuesday, August 21, 2018

Chase and Nanaw ate breakfast and played in his room before school. Nanaw made sure they left earlier than usual to make sure they got to school on time. This time Nanaw saw some parents going in the classroom with their children so she assumes it's okay if you're early enough. Chase saw Chase's self-portrait hanging on the wall at school so she took a picture of it and sent it to Mama. Mama and Nanaw think it sort of resembles Frankenstine. Today's was Nanaw's retiree lunch. This time it was at North Campus. She had a good time and had a good time talking to people she knows. When Nanaw picked Chase up, he told her about his day at school, which made her very happy. Chase and Nanaw played on the computers -- abcya, Raz and abcmouse. Chase really had fun -- he likes doing things on the computer, which also makes Nanaw very happy. Chase had a soccer game at 6 o'clock against the Waterloo team. This game was a lot better than the one on Saturday. All the boys on the other team were first graders. The boys played well, and Nanaw thinks Chase's team won 8 to 7 or something like that. It seems that they don't keep score on the younger teams.
