Chase wasn’t feeling well today. He had a slight fever and a runny nose. Mama said he didn’t sleep well last night. and neither did Mama or Daddy. They decided not to go to Uncle Chris’s New Year’s Eve party because they didn’t want baby Eli to catch what Chase has. Chase and Nanaw had a quiet day at Nanaw’s house. They spent the morning playing in Chase’s room. He played with the mega blocks again and really seemed to enjoy himself with the blocks. He didn’t eat very much but Mama said that in the evening, they got him chicken McNuggets (with ranch dressing for dipping, of course, and fry-frys), and he ate just fine. Mama got off work at 2 and came to pick up Chase early.

Chase and Nanaw had a quiet day, mostly staying at home except for a trip to the Telegraph Road Library. In the morning, after breakfast, Chase and Nanaw played in his room. Chase played with his mega blocks, and he’s getting quite good with them. He adds them to the farm quickly and easily, something he’s learned to do quite recently. However, he does get frustrated sometimes when he can’t take the blocks apart, and then it’s Nanaw’s job to remove the blocks -- very funny. Mama sent Chase’s new Scout reader along today, along with two of the new Scout books that go with it. In the afternoon, after Chase’s nap, Chase and Nanaw went to the library. Nanaw took Chase over to the children’s board book kiosk and selected "Mama is the Best Circus" to check out for him. Then Chase got all excited and kept pointing to the kiosk and saying something. Nanaw finally figured out that he was pointing to a Thomas the Train book that he wanted. So they checked that one out also. In the evening, Nanaw went to Chase’s house for an experimental dinner: Grandma Pat’s chop suey recipe cooked by Daddy. It was delicious – Nanaw ate two helpings and took some home for Tuesday’s lunch – yum. After dinner, Mama got out crayons and paper for Chase, and she and Chase and Nanaw had fun coloring at the kitchen table.

Nanaw went to visit Chase on Sunday afternoon. For awhile, they played with his toys in the living room. Then they went downstairs to play with the new toys he got for his birthday. Daddy put together the Go Train that Nanaw gave Chase, and they played with that for a long while. Then Chase sat in Daddy’s office chair and opened and closed the musical "Who Let the Dogs Out?" birthday card Grandma Pat gave Chase. Of course, he spent a lot of time playing with various "bee-byes" as he now calls "bye-byes." Chase and Nanaw went into his room and played with the mega blocks before Nanaw left. Later in the evening, Mama sent Nanaw two photos of Chase eating his dinner of crockpot pizza with food all over his face – very funny.

Chase had two adventures today. The first adventure was a birthday present visit from Aunt Becky (who works with Mama) and her son Kole and daughter Taylor. They're the ones who gave Chase and nanaw the two kitties: Kole and Taylor. Nanaw took a picture of the kitties before she went over to Chase's house to show Kole and Taylor. They brought Chase a wonderful little train set that he really seems to like. He also definitely liked playing with Kole and Taylor – he seems to love having little children to play with. In the afternoon, lots of family and friends came for Chase’s second birthday party. Mama bought a big cake at Walmart and put three "bee-byes" on it. Chase got lots of wonderful presents, including books, puzzles, another train, a Radio Flyer car that goes down a ramp, a Tonka excavator, a John Deere tool belt and lots of clothes. Mama gave Chase his own plate with cake and three kinds of ice cream and a spoon. He seemed to have a grand time trying to feed himself and actually managed to get a fair amount of cake and ice cream into his mouth.

Friday, December 27, 2013

Chase’s first adventure on Friday was going to Clayton Laptime. Before they went, Nanaw explained that Chase was supposed to sit on Nanaw’s lap during the story and song part of Laptime. Then when it was playtime, he could run around the room. It seemed to work because he did exactly what he was supposed to. Chase spent a lot of time playing with his new Elmo Junction and seemed to like it a lot. In the afternoon it was warm outside so Chase and Nanaw went for a walk in Nanaw’s neighborhood. On the walk, Chase saw two flocks of geese flying overhead and honking loudly – he seemed fascinated with them. After the walk, Chase and Nanaw had school. Chase seemed to know a few random letters of the alphabet – O, B, P and G -- he picked up the letters and said what they were, then handed them to Nanaw. Chase stayed late at Nanaw’s house while Mama and Daddy dropped off Daddy’s car to be fixed.

Mama took the day off from work to have adventures with Chase and Nanaw. Chase wore his new skull hat Mama got him for his birthday and looked very cute – he even kept it on, which is unusual for him. First they went to Waterloo Walmart to see if they had the artificial Christmas tree Mama wanted to buy and they did! It was an after-Christmas miracle. And Mama got it for half price -–which made her very happy. Then they went Telegraph Road Walmart to order the cake for Chase’s birthday party on Saturday. Mama ordered a half chocolate, half white sheet cake with blue lettering and blue trim. The next stop was South County Mall to get a birthday gift card for Aunt Betty. Then they went to White Castle to get lunch. Nanaw had her first chicken rings and thought they were delicious. In the evening, Nanaw put the Elmo Junction train together for Chase so he could play with it on Friday.

On Christmas morning, Chase opened presents with Mama and Daddy. Then they all went to Aunt Becca’s for a Christmas celebration and more toys. While Chase napped, Mama and Nanaw did their traditional trip to Walgreen’s. After his nap, Chase brought Mama and Daddy over to Nanaw’s for Christmas dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. Chase seemed to have a wonderful time ripping open his packages. He got a John Deere shirt and tractor from Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky. From Nanaw, he got an Elmo train, a cleaning set and a shopping cart. After dinner and presents, Chase and Uncle Mike sat in the big recliner while Uncle Mike read the new Jingle book to Chase – extremely cute!
