Friday, July 31, 2020

Chase, Mama and Nanaw had a super wonderful adventure day on Friday. They drove up to the confluence at Columbia Bottoms to see this year's crop of sunflowers. There weren't as many sunflowers this year as last year but they were as beautiful as ever. Mama and Nanaw took lots of pictures, and Nanaw posted some of them on Facebook. It was a rainy day so they couldn't have a picnic at Suson Park like they'd planned. They stopped at Schnuck's in Columbia, and Mama went in and bought chicken for her and Nanaw and chicken strips for Chase. They went back to Nanaw's house to eat lunch. The chicken was absolutely delicious; Chase really liked his chicken strips too. Mama had the idea to take another drive, this time down Bluff Road, so that's what they did. They took Bluff Road all the way to Waterloo. It was a beautiful drive, even on a slightly rainy day. Nanaw loved seeing the bluffs. Chase was unbelievably well-behaved the whole day. He seemed to enjoy the drive just as much. After Waterloo, Mama decided to drive to Millstadt to check out the meat store there. She went in, walked around and came back out. She said they had huge steaks and lots of interesting meat. That was the end of the Friday driving adventure.

Chase wore Nanaw's favorite jammies today, the skeleton ones, so she didn't get him dressed -- she left him in his jammies. Chase and Nanaw got all of the schoolwork done on time for a change -- yay! Today was Mrs. Forth's last original telecast on Room 9; Nanaw recorded Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's segments; she'll also record the one on Friday but it will be a repeat from earlier in the week. Chase and Nanaw are sad that Room 9 is over. Chase really liked it, especially Mrs. Forth. Tomorrow, Mama has the day off, and Mama, Chase and Nanaw are going on an adventure. They're not sure yet where or what -- maybe the sunflowers at the confluence or the sunflowers at Eckert's in Belleville. Mama thinks rain might prevent them from having a picnic at Suson Park. They're going to decide on Friday morning what they're going to do. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went to the Telegraph Road library to pick up books on request from the curbside service. Sadly for Nanaw, they've closed the library again.

Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Chase and Nanaw had morning school finally on Wednesday. Chase brought his zoo bag for the stuffed animals -- he brought lots of zoo animals today, and they filled up the couch. It's very cute to watch him when he's doing the reading assignment. It's as though he's so curious about what he's reading that he reads ahead to find out what's going on. Nanaw likes that he's interested in the items that they're reading about. Mama sent a picture of the banners that Chase's classmates made for their First Communion. Chase's is the second picture below. He's been very good about spending the Robux that Nanaw gave him for his First Communion. He asks before he spends anything, and he tries to limit himself to 100 Robux a day. Nanaw is very proud of him. Uncle Mike came to cut the grass this afternoon, and Nanaw told him about Chase and baseball. Chase is really into baseball and wants to practice with Daddy every night. Nanaw hopes that he has games again this weekend.

Tuesday, July 28, 2020

Once again, Chase and Nanaw had school in the afternoon instead of the morning. In the morning, they went to Trost Plastics to pay the down payment for Nanaw's new white deck, that won't be installed until December. Nanaw's wishes it were sooner but she'll just have to be patient. Then when she has both new decks, she and Chase will be sure to use them lots.-- at least when the weather gets nice. After Trost, Nanaw and Chase went to Dollar Tree. At first, Chase fussed about going to Dollar Tree. But then he decided he'd get one toy. He ended up getting four toys (all weapons -- Nanaw kept saying he was stocking up for the war), two pack of red drink and a bag of sunflower kernels. When they got home, he showed Nanaw some tips on batting for baseball. He's a good little teacher. He bought a Roblox baseball game with his Robux. In the evening, he and Daddy were going to do some more baseball practice.

Monday, July 27, 2020

Chase and Nanaw had school in the afternoon on Monday rather than in the morning. They forgot to watch Room 9, which was a shame because it was probably Mrs. Forth's (Chase's favorite teacher) last week on the show. They'll be sure to watch and record it tomorrow. Nanaw gave Chase 1600 Robux as his First Communion present, and Chase entered the codes into the laptop. Nanaw is so proud of him for doing it, and he was proud of himself. Right away, he bought a blue and black baseball cap with the Robux. He got a free thing that's like a sling for entering his gift codes, and he was happy about that. Mama bought him two packages of provolone cheese and that made him happy also. He'll be able to have as much provolone cheese this week as he wants. When they had reading for  school, in addition to the Answers book, they read some of the content of the magazine Chase got at Powder Valley on Friday. Nanaw thinks Chase enjoys reading about science and space and real things more than he enjoys stories. In the evening, Chase went to baseball practice but Mama didn't go along because it was so hot outside.

Sunday, July 26, 2020

Chase swam lots on Sunday and played baseball -- first with Daddy and then with Mama and Aunt Becca. Aunt Becca and Uncle Stan came over in the afternoon for Uncle Stan to help Daddy put up a new, beautiful storm door in the front. Uncle Stan and Aunt Becca were still at Chase's house when Nanaw got there so she got to visit with them a bit. But they didn't stay for dinner. Dinner was grilled chicken wings, thighs and breasts, plus corn on the cob. Very delish. After dinner, Chase showed Nanaw the presents he got for his First Communion. He had Daddy give Mama and Nanaw a demonstration of his new rosary. Then Chase showed Nanaw his new Minecraft game on his tablet. Next, they went downstairs and Chase showed Nanaw the Minecraft game on X-box. Then Chase and Nanaw went outside to play baseball. First, Chase used the tee, then he had Nanaw pitch to him. Daddy came out to play so he pitched to Chase and Nanaw. Chase was showing Nanaw how to bat; it was very cute. Mama bought two packages of provolone for Chase and a package of Gouda for Nanaw. Yay, Mama!

Saturday, July 25, 2020

Chase had a really busy day on Saturday. In the morning, he had two baseball games in a tournament in Cottleville, Missouri. Unfortunately, the pitching machine was faster than Chase's team was used to, and the boys had trouble hitting the ball. Chase got a  few hits in the two games they played but his team lost both games. In the afternoon, Nanaw came over to visit Chase  before he went to his First Communion and Nanaw went to the little house. Chase wore his Christmas good clothes for the ceremony and looked very handsome, even with his special First Communion mask. Nanaw tried to watch the ceremony at the little house on her laptop but the internet was acting up, and she didn't get to see Chase. Chase got to pose with some of friends for pictures; he also posed with the priests and with Mama and Daddy. He got presents from Mama, Daddy and Nanaw. Mama and Daddy gave him a rosary and a prayer book and a Minecraft X-box game; Nanaw gave his some Robux for her house.

Friday, July 24, 2020

Chase and Nanaw had their first summertime adventure on Friday. Instead of school, they went on a field trip. They went to Powder Valley, taking along Chase's guys plus snacks and drinks and wearing their masks. When they got there, they saw porta-potties and a handwashing station. Then on the way in, they saw that the big climbable frog at the front of the building was missing. The lady at the desk said they'd moved the frog into the auditorium and that he was wearing a mask. The lady at the desk had Nanaw sign in; then she gave Chase a children's magazine and a calendar. Chase brought along his bag of stuffed animals and enjoyed showing them around. As they walked around, they discovered that at least half of the displays and exhibits were closed. Chase wanted to spend a lot of time at the bug display. He and Nanaw played I Spy with the bug display. Nanaw had made a scavenger hunt for them to do; this was a good thing because the regular scavenger hunt and pencils weren't available. Some of the things on Nanaw's scavenger hunt were in the closed displays so they couldn't check them off. It was a wonderful visit, with Chase getting more engaged with the displays than ever before. In the evening, Chase wanted Daddy to bring the TV outside so he could watch the baseball game while playing in his swimming pool.

Thursday, July 23, 2020

Thursday was cleaning lady day. So Nanaw was putting things away before the cleaning lady came. She was supposed to come at 10:30 a.m. so Chase and Nanaw went downstairs a little after 10. They took all their things for school, plus Chase's bag of stuffed animals. Cleaning was supposed to take place between 10:30 and 12:30. But the cleaning lady didn't get there till 12:05 p.m. So cleaning wasn't done until 1:30 p.m. Chase and Nanaw were downstairs for almost 3 1/2 hours. They got a lot of schoolwork done. They read the Highlights Magazine, and Chase seemed to like it. Nanaw will have to ask Mama to give the Highlights to Chase and Nanaw so they can read them during school time. Nanaw had to take Chase home at five today because he had a baseball game at the Legion field tonight, and he had to be at the field by 5:20. He looked so good in his baseball uniform. Mama said the game ended with the two teams tied at 18 to 18.

July 22, 2020

Chase and Nanaw didn't have school until late afternoon. Nanaw was working on fixing various issues and problems with the church website that she maintains. So she was at her computer, next to Chase at the laptop, for most of the day. It was really fun for Nanaw to watch Chase playing games and watching YouTube videos. Every once in awhile, Chase would tell Nanaw about the game he was playing or something interesting about the other players. Nanaw enjoyed hearing him talk about Roblox -- he likes it so much. Mama texted Nanaw that Chase's baseball team is going to play two games in a tournament on Saturday in Cottleville, one at 9 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m. So Nanaw is going to wait to go to the little house until after Chase gets home from the tournament and Nanaw visits him. When Chase and Nanaw finally had school, they did reading, addition flashcards, subtraction flashcards, and one of the pages in the Summer Bridge 1-2 book. They watched the Cardinals exhibition game against the Kansas Royals -- the Cardinals won 6 to 3.

Tuesday, July 21, 2020

Nanaw thought Chase wouldn't get his schoolwork done in time for Room 9 and Kreekcraft but he did -- and he was very happy about it. He even did an extra page in the new Summer Bridge book Nanaw bought for him. In the afternoon, Chase had Nanaw come play Roblox with him and his Roblox friend berrywhale. He had been promising berry to introduce her to his grandma and so he did. Berry's avatar has blond hair. Chase had both his avatars in the game; the antler guy and the purple fedora zebra-face guy. Nanaw had lots of fun but she still doesn’t know what she's doing in Roblox. Later in the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went to the Telegraph Road library to pick up the books and a movie Nanaw had on request. As usual, they wore their masks inside. Chase wore his fish mask, which Nanaw thinks is his favorite one. On the way out of the library, Nanaw asked Chase if he remembered going to Story Hour there when he was a little boy. He said yes, but that he wouldn't be able to do it now because it would take up too much of his time. He said he needed his time for the computer and Roblox. LOL. In the evening when Nanaw took Chase home, she stayed for awhile so she could so up the rips in the Gascar chair. Chase and Daddy went downstairs to have a Nerf gun war.

Monday, July 20, 2020

Chase and Nanaw didn't get finished with school in time for Chase to watch Kreekcraft's live stream so they postponed the rest of school until later in the afternoon. For Chase's first snack of the morning, he asked for a piece of provolone cheese, his latest favorite snack. Nanaw told him they had to ration him to two pieces a day this so they didn't run out. Chase was happy to have a ham and cheese sandwich again for lunch. It's his current favorite. Later in the day, Chase showed Nanaw what his two special avatars were doing on Roblox. One of the avatars has wonderful antlers with fruit hanging all over them. The other avatar was the zebra-faced one wearing a purple fedora. At the end of the day, Chase and Nanaw had fun finishing up his schoolwork; it went very well. The new Summer Bridge book Mama bought on Amazon for Chase is really good; Nanaw is glad she got it. Chase had baseball practice tonight. His coach is trying to see if he can set up some games because the regular season in Affton was cancelled. Mama asked Nanaw to sew the Gascar chair so Nanaw is going to take her sewing stuff with her tomorrow when she takes Chase home and sew the Gascar chair.

Sunday, July 19, 2020

On Sunday, Chase and Daddy went out to Uncle Chris's house for Chase to go swimming and play with Elias. Chase took along two of his Nerf guns, and he and Elias played with their Nerf guns. Chase says he has about 10 Nerf guns. He and Elias played baseball; one of Cesi's dogs, Angel, was their outfielder. Daddy was the pitcher. Chomper the dog couldn't play baseball with them because he just got fixed. Chase spent most of the time swimming, and he said he had a great time. Cesi didn't play or swim with Chase and Elias. Mallory didn't come to play with them because she and her family had just gotten back from Branson. Chase said that Uncle Will-Bill gave him an ice cream sandwich. Chase fell asleep on the way home. For dinner, Mama fixed sandwiches and mac and cheese. For dessert (which Nanaw had also), was the apple dump cake Mama  took to the swimming party yesterday. When Nanaw went to tell Chase good-bye (she left early because there was going to be a thunderstorm), he was in his room putting on his pajamas. He told Nanaw that after he put on his jammies, he could play with his tablet. Tonight Nanaw got some unusual pictures of Chase. LOL.
