When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he was so excited about going to the park to play with Will. They stopped at Chase's house, but he decided not to bring any guys -- a first-ever. Brady and Emma were at the park also. Nanaw brought along bats and balls, and Daddy gave Chase two bats and two balls. Chase, Will and Brady played baseball until after 4 p.m. Another boy who'd been playing basketball joined them, and they seemed to have a wonderful time. The little kids decided to splash around in the fountain, and they all got very wet. Back at Nanaw's house, Chase played with Nanaw's phone and watched Curious George. Twice, Nanaw did her new thing of a way to get Chase to listen. The first time was at the park. Nanaw went up to Chase and put her hand on his shoulder and said they had to go find the two balls that Daddy had given Chase to take to the park. So Chase went with Nanaw and they found the balls. The second time was at Nanaw's house. Nanaw picked up Chase's shoes, went over to where Chase was sitting and put her hand on his shoulder and asked him to put on his shoes. It worked both times. Mama and Daddy came to pick Chase up at about 5:20. They were all going to Hunter and Mason's birthday party at Columbia Sportsmen Club. (Nanaw took a drive yesterday to check it out. It's very close to her house. It's where Mama and Daddy had their rehearsal dinner.) The boys were going to go fishing, eat burgers and hot dogs and play games that Mason came up with. Mama and Daddy and the other parents got to stay at the party. Chase promised to tell Nanaw all about the party tomorrow.

Nanaw made a big sign to tape up on her dashboard to help her remember to ask Chase if he remembered his AR book and other homework. It's the first picture below. The sign says: "Ask Chase if he has AR book and homework." Hopefully, Nanaw will remember to ask Chase when he comes out of school. When Nanaw and Chase stopped at Chase's house to pick up guys, Chase had to go to the bathroom and Mama and Daddy had to get back to work. So Nanaw sat in the living room on the sofa with Sam, waiting for Chase. She decided to take a picture of Sam and send it to Mama, which she did. Mama liked it. It's the second picture below. At Nanaw's house, Chase and Nanaw played baseball on the living room floor with the guys. Then Uncle Mike and cousin Joe came. They were bringing back Nanaw's riding mower, all fixed by Uncle Mike. Uncle Mike also installed two solar lights on Nanaw's new deck to see if Nanaw liked them and if they worked. They did and a picture of them all lit up is the third picture below. Uncle Mike and Joe also put together Nanaw's new swing for the lower deck. Uncle Mike might install it when he comes on Sunday or Monday to cut the grass. Nanaw took Chase home, and Mama said Will's mom had texted that they were going to the park after school on Friday and hoped Chase and Nanaw would come too. Nanaw said yes, and Mama texted back. Mama had a discussion with Chase about how he doesn't listen to her and she said they needed to find a punishment that would help Chase listen. Chase said he would give Mama a dollar every time he didn't listen. Nanaw came up with her own way of getting Chase to listen. Instead of just calling out across the room for him to do this or that, she would go over to him and put her hand on his shoulder, look him in the eye and tell him what she wanted. And it really does work.

Mama wanted to know if Shy Guy got left behind at Nanaw's house. Nanaw found him in her back seat and took a picture of him for Mama (first picture). Then she brought him inside to be with the new guys (second picture). When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he thought he did well on his math test. He told her that tomorrow would be the best day ever because Ms. Kennedy would be back in class. He said he wrote that in his agenda and put an exclamation point. He told Nanaw that he loves Ms. Kennedy. Unfortunately, Chase forgot his AR book and his material to study for the social studies test tomorrow. And Nanaw forgot to ask him if he'd brought home the AR book and any other study things. So Nanaw has to figure out a way to remind herself to always ask and send Chase back in school if he forgets anything. Mama and Daddy said the rule is if he forgets to bring his homework home, he doesn't get to play on any devices. Mama said that included anything at Nanaw's house. So when they got to Nanaw's house, Chase played the recorder and the piano for awhile. Then they took the guys into the living room and sat on the couch reading. Chase read a Curious George book -- Curious George and the Chocolate Factory, which he said wasn't realistic. Then they watched the Two Curious George shows on Chase TV. While they were sitting there, Chase told Nanaw, "This is fun. We can do this again tomorrow." That made Nanaw very happy. When it was time to go home, Chase wanted to play with the calculator. Nanaw checked with Mama, and she said that wasn't considered a device and he could play with it.

After Chase and Nanaw left Chase's house in the afternoon, Chase asked about the stuffed Mario things at Walgreen's and wanted to know if Nanaw would buy them for him sometime. Nanaw said they'd better go now and buy them, so they did. Chase also wanted a baby Yoda who's soft and cuddly like Shaun. Nanaw used Chase's Christmas money. Nanaw did homework with Chase back at her house because he had a baseball game on Tuesday night and wouldn't have time to do his homework. They studied for his math test -- fractions. He did fairly well on the study page. Nanaw also gave him some extra problems to study, and he did those correctly. He also studied the capitals for the next set of states and did well on those. He logged on to Google classroom and finished filling in the worksheet with answers to various state information. Nanaw took Chase home at 4:45 so they could all go to Chase's game. On the way to the game, he did his 20 minutes of AR reading. He did a super excellent job in the game. He pitched the first two innings and had four strikeouts. He only walked two. He was just the best little pitcher. He got two hits and three RBIs. On the way home from the game, they stopped at McDonald's and ate their food at Chase's house.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he was very excited about the fact that Will was coming to Nanaw's house to play with him. Evidently, the two boys decided that was a good idea. So Nanaw just went with it. At Chase's house, Mama and Daddy thought it was funny. They both told him he should have gotten permission first but Nanaw said it was okay. At Nanaw's house, they played baseball in the  front yard, and Chase kept looking down the street for Will to come along on his bike. But Will didn't come. Chase was sad but he didn't cry. Chase and Nanaw had a good time playing baseball. Nanaw put up the strike zone for Chase (a cardboard box on a folding chair). Inside, Chase played the recorder and the piano. Then he played on the tablet, the laptop and Nanaw's phone. At home, Mama said Chase and Daddy were playing out in the field. On her way home, Nanaw went to Walgreen's and bought a stuffed Mario for Chase; she had intended to buy a Shy Guy like Mama did but they didn't have any more. Chase had lots of homework tonight. He got all his spelling words right so he was happy about that. He had to read a 22-page story for a test tomorrow and also study the quiz questions. Third grade is really hard. During the day on Sunday, Chase played outside with Daddy. He played on the trampoline and played baseball. Chase also had baseball practice on Sunday and stayed afterwards to play with his friends in the park and on the playground. He has another baseball game on Tuesday, and Nanaw plans to go. The game is at 6 p.m., which is much better than the first game that didn't start till 8 p.m. When Nanaw got to Chase's house, he was outside playing on the trampoline. He wanted to go inside to play balloon base with Nanaw so that's what they did. They played downstairs until it was time for dinner. Mama made delicious pot roast in the crockpot. Nanaw took lots, more than she could eat so she put it in a container. Mama said she could have some more to take home so she did. After dinner, Mama, Chase and Nanaw played two games of Clue. Nanaw sort of won the first one -- Mama gave her the wrong answer on one of her queries so Chase and Mama decided that Nanaw won.  Mama won the second game. This is the first time that Chase didn't win a game, but he was totally all right about it. After Clue, Mama, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play balloon baseball again. Mama and Nanaw were on the same team, playing against Chase. They also played a game where you try to keep the balloon in the air and not hitting the floor.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went to the grocery store. Chase decided to play in the garden tub in Pawpaw's bathroom. Chase brought his stuffed animals and put them in the tub. He then had Nanaw bring in some toys, which Nanaw did -- the plastic bugs and the Rubix cube. Chase played for a long time in the tub while Nanaw talked to tech support about her email on her devices. She thought it was fixed but still kept having trouble with it. After Chase left, he and Mama and Daddy went to Aunt Becca's house for lunch. They had Chinese food; Chase had his favorite -- sweet and sour chicken and rice. Mama spent the rest of the day at Aunt Becca's house. Daddy and Chase went out to Silex to visit Uncle Chris and for Chase to play with Elias. Chase and Elias played with the X-box and on the trampoline.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she told him they were going to the cemetery after stopping at his house and that he could play with her phone and tablet on the drive. Two of his recorders were still in the car, and he was playing them. One of the songs sounded familiar but different, and Nanaw asked what it was. Chase said. "It's 'Hot Cross Buns' reamastered." Nanaw really laughed at that. Nanaw told Mama and Daddy when they got to Chase's house, and they laughed, too. At Nanaw's house, Chase continued to play with the phone and the tablet. He didn't play with the laptop at all. On the way back to Chase's house, he said, "I have the best Daddy, the best Mama and the best grandma. I have the best life." Nanaw told Mama and Daddy, and they liked that. Mama said they were going to Sonic for dinner but she didn't say whether they were going to the drive-through or order from a carhop and maybe eat in the car. Tomorrow they're going to Aunt Becca's for Chinese food at lunch. Chase was very excited about having sweet and sour chicken.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, Chase asked if they could go to the park, and Nanaw said yes. They stopped at Chase's house on the way to the park to pick up the guys. Mama showed Nanaw the Ding Dong dessert she made last night. It looked yummy. Mama sent a snack of pretzels along with Chase. At the park, Chase was so excited to see Will, along with his brothers and sister. He had a really good time playing with them, and Nanaw had a good time talking to Will's mom Jill. They played with Chase's soccer ball. Brady and Emma were there also. Chase didn’t fuss too much when it was time to go because everyone else was leaving also. Back at Nanaw's house, Chase ate his pretzels and also some cheese and chocolate milk Nanaw gave him. He played with the computer for awhile before they went home. He was happy because his only homework for the night was his AR reading.

When Nanaw was waiting for Chase on the parking lot, Brady came over and asked if Chase could go to the park. Nanaw said it was too cold, and besides, they were going to play in the sink. Nanaw got out the water toys for Chase to play with. At Chase's house, Mama gave Nanaw Chase's state capitol index cards and the AR book so he could do that at Nanaw's house because he had baseball practice. At Nanaw's house, Chase decided they weren't going to play in the sink; they were going to go downstairs to the school room and use the US map to find capitals. First they did the ten index cards; and Chase seems to know the capitals to those ten states. Next, t they and used the US map to find capitols. They had an excellent time, one of the best afternoons ever. Chase was so cute, and he's so vocal and verbal -- Nanaw loves it. Next, they did the AR reading -- Kittens in the Kitchen. Last, Chase played on Nanaw's tablet.

It was snowing hard when Nanaw went to pick Chase up from school. Nanaw brought the big red, white and blue golf umbrella to get Chase so they could both stay dry. Chase said he wanted Nanaw to pick up the guys on her way to get him, rather than him going along after school. Nanaw said it was good to see Mama and Daddy so they would continue to go there on their way home. He read a little in the dog books during their drive. At Nanaw's house, Chase played on the computer, and Nanaw tried to take a little nap in the computer lab. She only slept a little but it was enough. Two of the kitties, Taylor and Sidney, came to nap with her. A little while after Nanaw took Chase home, Mama called to ask if she had Chase's backpack. Nanaw looked in the car and lo and behold, there was Chase's backpack. Nanaw had told him to bring it into his house but evidently he didn't hear or he didn't listen. Nanaw took the backpack to Chase's house. He was waiting at the front door and ran out to get it. Nanaw told him she loved him, and he said he loved her, too.

A squishy package addressed to Chase at Nanaw's address showed up in Nanaw's mailbox on Monday. Nanaw left a voice mail for Mama, and she said it was a present for Chase. He came with a name -- Shaun -- and Chase and Mama decided that would be a good name for him. Mama had sort of intended for Shaun to live at Nanaw's house and be Love Hugs' friend. But Chase decided he wanted Shaun at his house. Nanaw got to Chase's school at 2:40, taking the long way. But she couldn't see the door of the school so she didn't see the boys and girls come out. So Chase thought she was late, and she was as far as being at the front of the school. Chase was so excited about Shaun. He hugged him all the way to his house. He said he's really soft and squishy. Chase doesn't have to wear his retainer anymore so they didn't take it with them when they went to pick up the guys. Chase decided he didn’t want to go to the little park; he said he wanted to play Prodigy. That's what he did. Mama was at the vet with the pups when Nanaw brought Chase home. Later, Nanaw went to Taco Bell for a Crunch Wrap Supreme, On her way home, she stopped at Chase's house to take a picture of Chase and to give Mama the money she owed her for Kathleen's wedding present.

Mama told Nanaw that she took Chase to baseball practice. She said Mason (Hunter's brother) spent a lot of time talking to her. Chase stayed after practice to play with Brady, Hunter, Michael and some of the other players on the team. Brady threw Chase's baseball cap in the trash, and Mama told Brady that was not a good thing to do. Nanaw went over to Chase's house a little early for dinner on Sunday afternoon because she wanted lots of time to play with Chase. He was inside the house on the love seat, next to Daddy. Daddy was having a reaction to his second vaccine shot, and Mama and Chase were taking care of him. Chase and Nanaw went outside to play baseball. Chase got the pitching machine out, Nanaw put the balls in it while Chase hit the ball. He got some really good, hard hits. Mama came out to tell them dinner was ready. Mama fixed Italian beef, Caesar salad and Stovetop. Nanaw gave the puppies lots of beef. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw went outside to play baseball again. Daddy had bought catcher gear for Chase, and Chase put it on so he could catch the balls that the pitching machine threw at him. Mama came out to watch. Then Chase jumped on the trampoline. Then Nanaw said they should go in the house and play baseball with the guys on Chase's bed. So that's what they did. Nanaw left for home about 6:55 so she could watch her Hallmark movie.

On Saturday morning, Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house while she went to the grocery store. Chase wanted to play baseball in Nanaw's front yard but Nanaw said it was spitting rain. So Chase said they would play baseball on the computer. The played the Google Doodles baseball game from July 4th, 2019. Chase had a grand time doing that because he kept getting home runs. Daddy took their new phones to the Verizon store in Waterloo to get them set up. Nanaw went to the little house for several hours. She was happy to see the little house after a long winter without going out there. She left early so she could go to see Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky at Chase's house. Nanaw had a burger, Italian sausage, Suddenly Salad and chocolate chip cookie cake. Nanaw and Chase went for a long walk in the field and had lots of fun. Chase played on his tablet on the patio (with the firepit and the outdoor heater) for awhile. Then everyone went home.

Nanaw had two doctors' appointments on Friday, plus radiation. She has to have a sleep study, which she really doesn't want to do. But… When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she was really happy to see him. He had a little yellow spongy ball that he got for selling magazines and other things for the fund raising effort. At Chase's house, Chase told Mama, Daddy and Nanaw that Ms. Kennedy wasn't at school today. He said Ms. Kennedy said she had been exposed to Covid and had to quarantine. Chase's class had a substitute today. Next week, Chase says Ms. Kennedy is going to teach with Zoom. At Nanaw's house, Nanaw made spaghetti, Chase ate some. Nanaw also sent some spaghetti home for Chase's dinner. Daddy went to visit Grandma Pat for her birthday. He was going to get Ted Drewes for her. Daddy sister Ginny and niece Megan were also here from Tennessee and the east coast for Grandma Pat's birthday. Mama did Camwood (batting practice) with Chase on Friday evening. Daddy told Mama that Chase could have his Sonic game even though he had one more time of doing Camwood. Nanaw is sure he was very happy to get the game.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she made sure to ask him if he brought home his heavy book with the story for tomorrow's test. He said there was only one copy of the book with the story and that they were supposed to read the story on YouTube. Nanaw asked him to go back in school and get whatever papers he had for the story. But Chase refused and cried. On the way to his house, he told Nanaw he forgot the study guide papers. They told Mama about that, and she wasn't too happy. It turned out all right because Brady remembered his papers and his mom sent pictures of them for Mama and Chase. After Nanaw and Chase left Chase's house, they went to the little library park so Chase could play with Brady. Chase roller bladed for awhile. Then he and Brady played basketball and kickball with Chase's soccer ball. As usual, when it was time to leave. Chase fussed about it -- he never wants to leave somewhere he's having fun. At Nanaw's house, Chase had some snacks and played on the laptop. He told Nanaw that tomorrow, he wants to play baseball with her.
