Chase was excited about Mix It Up Day at school. They were put in groups with boys and girls from other classes, kindergarten through fourth grade. They did things like directed drawing penguins, whatever that is. For lunch, they had a mix it up lunch of a turkey, ham and cheese sandwich, Doritos, carrots and apples. Quite nutritious, actually. Chase forgot his green folder after school, and Chase and Nanaw went back inside. But the classroom door was locked, and Mrs. Meyer didn't come back so he'll get his folder on Monday. When Chase and Nanaw got home, they played with his shells, his new penguin key chains and some Hot Wheel cars. At school, he got to select six new penguin key chains for selling six orders of magazines for the magazine sale. Mama found a Nightmare Before Christmas key ring on Amazon so Nanaw bought that for Chase. Chase found the set of penguin key chains that Nanaw bought last year for him, and she bought another set for him. Both orders are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Nanaw is excited about going to the Book Fair at school tomorrow afternoon with Mama and Chase.

Thursday, January 30, 2020

When Nanaw took Chase to school, his friend AJ was very excited that they were bot wearing short-sleeved blue shirts over long-sleeved shirts (AJ's was red and Chase's was white). All this week, the boys and girls were wearing various non-uniform clothes in celebration of Catholic Schools Week. When Nanaw picked Chase up, he was very happy to tell Nanaw that he got to pick a toy from the prize box again for being good -- being in control of his tools -- body and voice. He chose a cute little stuffed Alien from Toy Story. On the way home, they stopped at Chase's house to let the dogs out because Mama was going out to dinner after work with Auntie LaLa. At Nanaw's house, Chase played on the laptop and played hockey in the hall. When Daddy picked Chase up, Chase said he wanted Daddy to order pizza with pepperoni and sausage from Pizza Hut, along with cheese garlic bread. Then sweet little Chase said, "Nanaw, next time we'll see if we can get gluten-free for you." What a precious little boy!

Nanaw was happy to see Chase on Wednesday morning. She thought that was the only time she'd see him. He had an orthodontist appointment in the afternoon; Mama was going to pick him up early from school. Mama called Nanaw about 4 o'clock and told her Chase wanted to come visit. Nanaw was happy and excited about that. Mama dropped Chase off, and then went to get Sylvester from the vet. He has a torn tendon in his rear left leg. So they have to keep him quiet while it heals. Chase had little blue rubber bands on his teeth that the orthodontist put in. While he was playing on the laptop, one of the little blue rubber bands came off. Nanaw texted Mama, and she called the orthodontist. It might be all right. They have to wait until his next appointment to see. Tonight was ICS Night at Joe's Pizza so Mama ordered food for dinner from there. Nanaw took Chase home, and he went with Mama to pick up the food. After dinner, Chase and Daddy were going to baseball practice. When he got home, Chase had to do his math homework. So it was quite the busy day for the little fellow.

Tuesday, January 28, 2020

On Tuesday morning, when Chase was getting dressed, there was a moment of panic because Nanaw couldn't find his belt. She told Chase they would have to stop by his house on the way to school to get the belt. But she happened to look in the other pocket of the backpack and found the belt. Yay! Evidently, Mama had Daddy put it in the backpack, and he put it in the other pocket. Chase was very excited about turning in his magazine orders. He's hoping to get more key chains like he did in previous years. Mama is taking Sylvester to the vet this afternoon for his injured paw, and Daddy is going to walk Sam so Chase is going to stay with Nanaw until 6 p.m. He's excited to have an extra hour here. Nanaw wishes it was to spend time with her but really it's to spend time on the laptop. But Nanaw plans to find some things for them to play with, at least part of the time. Tomorrow Nanaw is only going to see Chase in the morning, not after school. He has an orthodontist appointment at three, then baseball practice at 6:30. On the way home from school, Chase said maybe he would get key chains for magazine sales and maybe he wouldn't. Nanaw said if he didn't, she would buy some for him. After school, Nanaw brushed the kitties while Chase played games on the laptop.

Monday, January 27, 2020

When Nanaw took Chase to school, they found that there was a substitute in Chase's classroom. They later found out that it was only for part of the day. Mrs. Meyer had to go to the dentist; when she was done, she came back to class. Unfortunately, she misunderstood an email that Mama sent to her about Chase's orthodontist appointment on Wednesday. Mrs. Meyer thought it was today, and she sent Chase to the office a little before three to wait for Mama. Finally, Chase saw Nanaw outside and came over to her. He was sad about the mix-up and started to cry, but fortunately no one saw him. After school, Chase played on the laptop for awhile. Mama came to pick them up at 4:45 to go to the doctor for Chase's annual check-up. Chase was really cute while they were waiting for the doctor, playing a geography game with the map on the wall. Chase weighs 66.2 pounds and is 51 inches tall. Mama talked to the doctor about Chase's grunting noise, and he agreed that it's probably a tic that will go away by itself.

Sunday, January 26, 2020

Chase had a busy day on Sunday. First, he had baseball practice at the indoor field at Powerhaus. Daddy said he did really well at practice. He came in second in a groundball catching contest. Then, in the afternoon, Mama, Chase and Nanaw went to Helping Strays for Rescue Readers. Chase picked out a book from their bookshelf collection that was half dog book and half cat book. First he read to Chris and then to Brutis. The dogs were barking a lot so it was difficult to hear Chase read. But both Chris and Brutis seemed to like it when Chase showed them the pictures in the book. Next, they all went to the cat rooms. Chase tried to read to the cats but they didn’t seem very interested. So he read two pages to a black and white cat named Midnight (who looked like a miniature Charlie). Then Chase got some toys so he could play with the cats. His friend Evie from school was there with her grandmother; she said her sister Emma was sick. Chase spent a long time playing with the cats. He seems to like the cats better than the dogs. In the evening, Nanaw came over for a delicious dinner of bacon wraps. Nanaw also ate lots of the mixed nuts dipped in almond bark. After dinner, Mama and Nanaw bought magazines for Chase's magazine sale. Mama gave Chase a bath and put him in his pajamas. Then everybody but Sam went downstairs to watch the Grammys. Before the Grammys started, Chase had everybody playing shootout hockey. After the Grammys started, they played shootout hockey during commercials. Nanaw was crocheting and Tyler started playing with her yarn. So Mama suggested that Nanaw give Tyler a little ball of yarn; he had great fun playing with the yarn and Chase.

Saturday, January 25, 2020

Nanaw went to visit Chase on Saturday morning and stayed for two hours, which is a really long time for Saturday morning. Mama was very worried about Sylvester. Somehow he hurt his leg or paw when he was outside. He walks with a limp, holding his leg up. Mama says if he isn't better by Monday, she'll take him to the vet. Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play hockey while Mama went to the grocery store. They played for a long time, and Chase was really cute, showing Nanaw how to wear goalie mitts, how to hold her hockey stick and how to play goalie and protect the net. After hockey, Chase and Nanaw went upstairs to play in Chase's room. They played baseball on the bed, which was quite a challenge. Chase wanted to play with Nanaw's phone but Nanaw said no and Chase wasn't very happy about that. For a little while, Chase read two Star Wars books. When Mama came home from the store, Nanaw left.

When Nanaw took Chase to school, he asked her if she was chewing gum. She said she was. He told her she had to get rid of the gum because it was illegal to chew gum in school. So Nanaw got rid of the gum. Chase said he wanted to play with paints when he got home from school. He wanted to mix colors together. Nanaw said they would, and they would also play with the Legos. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he apologized and said they had to go back in to his classroom because he forgot his green folder. So they went back to get the green folder. On the way, they saw Mrs. Sullivan, who was Chase's teacher's aide in kindergarten. She now is in charge of Latch Key and says she loves it. Nanaw got to know her when Nanaw volunteered in the kindergarten classroom. When Chase and Nanaw got home, they played with the paint for a long while and had lots of fun. They didn't play with the Legos. Maybe they'll do that on Monday. After the paint, Chase played on his laptop and watched Chase TV.

The weather was yucky outside Thursday morning so Mama decided to work at home rather than going in to the office. So she offered to bring Chase over to Nanaw's rather than Nanaw picking Chase up. It was sort of raining and sleeting when Nanaw took Chase to school. She didn't realize it was so early; the bell hadn't rung yet. Nanaw told Chase they could wait in the lobby but Chase wanted to go wait in the gym. Nanaw started to go with him but he said he wanted to go by himself. The bug is growing up! Mama and Nanaw are not happy about that. They want Chase to stay a little boy. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he showed her the toy he picked from the treasure box. It was a BB8 combined with D-O from the Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. Nanaw asked Chase why he got to pick something from the treasure box. He said it was because the teacher said he made good use of his tools. Nanaw asked what his tools are, and he said his body and his voice. After school, Chase played Roblox baseball. He was on the Cardinals' team and played catcher. So he's transitioned from Roblox hockey to Roblox baseball. Always the sports guy!

Mama brought Tee Tee's blanket with Chase this morning. It's a tiny skull blanket that Auntie LaLa gave Mama years ago. So Tee Tee was cozy in his blanket and little blue house. Mama went to see the physician's assistant in the afternoon about her sinus infection so the pick-up call didn't happen until after her appointment. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he got a 3 on his spelling test -- that means he got all the words correct. In Mrs. Meyer's notes, she said the class worked on their science fair project today. They were using M&M's as data to see which color, if any, had more candies included in the bag. There was a photo of Chase on Seesaw -- the first one below. Uncle Mike texted Nanaw that the Bingo game scheduled for this Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe has been postponed because of the impending bad weather. Nanaw and Chase were going to go while Mama and Daddy were at Mama's birthday happy hour. Nanaw thinks she'll go grocery shopping this evening after she drops off Chase at his house because it might be snowy and icy tomorrow morning.

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

Chase's friend Brady was finally back at school on Tuesday, better but still a little pale. But his friend Connor was sick today, and his friend Cole wasn't there because of his grandfather's funeral. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, they didn't do a pick-up call with Mama because she had a meeting. But Mama called later when her meeting was over. Nanaw told her that Chase got his report card. It was very good -- almost all 3s, the highest grade possible. The teacher said he's a very good reader and gets along well with others in the classroom and on the playground. She also said he'd made good academic progress this year. What good news! At Nanaw's house, Chase played hockey for awhile and then played on the laptop. He didn't want to go downstairs with Nanaw to show his guys his Hot Wheels toys so Nanaw did it without it him. But she only knows how to make one of the three toys run so Chase will have to show her how to do the other two. Mama said Chase inhaled his dinner: lasagna Hamburger Helper.
