On Friday morning, Chase and Nanaw turned right on their morning walk, in hopes of seeing the kitty but no such luck. They checked the library box, and the book Nanaw left is still there. In the middle of the day, Chase and Nanaw went on an errand adventure. First, they went to the bank to get cash and a Dum Dum for Chase. Then they went to Telegraph Road Walmart to return a fire pit that Nanaw bought there Thursday evening. It was 28 inches wide, which is too wide for Nanaw's front porch. So Nanaw ordered a small one from Amazon that's 22 inches wide and that will arrive July 13 or 14. In school, Chase took the decimals test. The first page is multiplying decimals, with 12 problems, and Chase got all 12 right. The second page is dividing decimals, and Chase missed three out 14. Nanaw figured out his grade -- it was an 88, which is a B. So he did a lot better. Maybe next Friday, he'll get a 100. Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Reifschneider's for dinner, and they all had smashed hamburgers, which everybody liked. The first two pictures show Chase's new hair trim that he got yesterday at Great Clips (he looks so cool). The last picture is of a rainbow Nanaw saw in Washington on her way to the little house.

Chase and Nanaw went for their walk on Thursday morning. They went the left way, and Chase let Nanaw take a picture of him by the bush, which always makes her happy. The first picture below is the bush picture. The second picture is one that Mama sent to Nanaw today of little Chase with Tee Tee in his mouth. Because Nanaw had an appointment in the afternoon, they had the first hour of school earlier in the day. Nanaw told Chase that tomorrow was the first day for him taking the decimals test again that he did badly on in school (Nanaw typed it so he can take it every week for the rest of the summer). He got a D on it, which is the first time he ever got a D. Hopefully, it will also be the last time. They've been studying decimals since the beginning of summer school, and Chase is doing quite well with them. Nanaw took Chase back to his house in the afternoon while Nanaw went to her appointment. She picked him up at about 3:30 and went back to her house for the last hour of school. In the morning, he'd done his math and English. In the afternoon, he did the Bridge book, the state capitals, and they read in the One and Only Bob book. When Nanaw brought Chase back home at 4:30, Daddy took him to Great Clips to get a trim of his hockey hair. Chase wants to let his hair grow long like some of his hockey teammates.

Chase and Nanaw had breakfast before they went for their morning walk. They turned right out of Nanaw's house because they wanted to see the kitty. But the kitty was nowhere to be seen. At the end of the walk, Chase ran partway back to Nanaw's house. Nanaw likes to see him run. Nanaw used her walking stick again, and it makes it easier to walk. Nanaw has a physical therapy appointment tomorrow afternoon to see if they can help with her veering when she walks. For lunch, Chase had a wheels and cheese frozen dinner and really liked it. Today's school session started off with the gratitude journal. They're going to do that every day from now on. Everybody was grateful for electricity, of course! Chase and Nanaw concentrated on writing letters and numbers in the first hour of school. They've heard that Chase's 6th-grade teacher is especially interested in good handwriting and numbers and good punctuation. So Chase and Nanaw are going to make sure he can do those things to the best of his ability. Chase wasn't holding his pencil correctly so Nanaw helped him with that, although he still has sort of his own way of holding the pencil. They're going to trade off each day with letters -- printing one day and cursive the next day. They'll practice on numbers the most because Chase is the worst at numbers. Nanaw can't read his math answers, and she doesn't know how his teachers did. Nanaw missed packing u p Creeper, and when Chase texted about him, Nanaw sent a picture of Creeper all by himself on the bed. Chase texted back, asking for Creeper to have some friends with him, especially Linus (the new lemur they bought at Wally's last week.)  Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky gave Chase some reusable water balloons, and Chase played with those after Nanaw took him home. 

Happy Fourth of July, July 4, 2023

The first two pictures below are from Monday night when Mama, Chase, Sam, Sylvester and Tyler spent the night at Nanaw's house. The last three are from Tuesday morning. Nanaw took the group home about 10 a.m. They were planning to go to the new Bass Pro Shop in South County later in the day, and Nanaw asked if she could go along to see the new place. Nanaw came back at about 11:45 and they all went on the adventure. Mama and Daddy decided to go to lunch first, and they went to Longhorn. Mama had French onion soup and a chicken sandwich and fries; Daddy had a hamburger and fries; Chase had lots of bread, plus chicken nuggets and fries; and Nanaw had a strawberry pecan salad. After lunch, they went to Bass Pro and walked around exploring. Mama bought two key chains with flashlights on them; and Daddy bought a thing to weigh his fish, a tee shirt, cotton candy for Chase and lots of other things. It was a fun adventure, and the Bass Pro is closer than the one in St. Charles.

The first picture below is from Saturday when Nanaw was downstairs with Chase at his house watching him play Hoverboard hockey. In the middle of the night, Chase kept taking all the covers. Nanaw would try to pull some away from him but he pulled back harder. So Nanaw got up and got herself another blanket. Chase woke up at about seven, with orders about breakfast and giving him his clothes to put on. Mama came over about eight in case the eye doctor was open, and Chase could go in to practice with his contacts. However, the eye doctor's office texted Mama that they were closed because of the power outage and would reschedule as soon as they had power again. The tree guys came and got everything taken care of. They knocked the solar lights off the deck when they dropped the branch. Uncle Mike is coming Wednesday, and he says he'll take care of them. The cleaning lady came, and Chase and Nanaw went downstairs. For old-time's sake, Chase played in the playpen with the stuffed animals for a few minutes. Then he played on the tablet and watched TV. Mama texted to find out if Chase wanted to ride out to Brady's grandma's for their swimming in the lake adventure with his friend Hunter or wait till Daddy got home from work at about three-thirty. Chase said he wanted to ride with Hunter, and Hunter's mom said there was room for Mama also. Mama said Chase was having a great time; he ate a hamburger, a hot dog and some mostaccioli. They had fireworks, which everybody liked. Next year, Nanaw will go again. Last year was fun. It was just too complicated this year. On their way back to Nanaw's, Mama, Daddy and Chase were going to stop at their house to see if they had power yet. Mama said even if they have power, she and Chase would spend the night at Nanaw's. Yay! And they had power, and everybody is overjoyed! The fifth picture is Tyler hiding behind the TV on Nanaw's computer desk. The sixth picture is Sam stretched out on Sylvester's bed. The seventh picture is of Sylvester lying on the kitchen floor.

On Sunday morning, the tree guy came by to say that he would have to postpone work on Nanaw's tree until Monday because it was too dangerous to try to take care of it with only one helper. Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house when they got back from the Pear Tree Inn in Arnold. Nanaw was very happy to see Chase. Nanaw stayed home from church so she could have Chase there. Chase helped Nanaw clean up the twigs and branches from the front yard, as shown in the second picture. Daddy came over to Nanaw's to take a shower. He has to go in to the office on Monday. Mama and Daddy took home Nanaw's power pack and a fan to try to keep them cool for a bit.  Mama got an email from Ameren saying their power should be restored by Tuesday evening, July 4th. Columbia canceled its fireworks display because of all the problems the city is having with power outages and downed trees. Mama wanted Chase to spend the night, and Chase and Nanaw were very happy about that. The bed was very crowded with Chase's stuffed animals and Nanaw's stuffed animals.

On Saturday morning, Mama said they tried to go to Denny’s in Waterloo for breakfast but it was crowded so they went to Burger King. When they got back home, Mama cleaned out the fridge, and Chase helped Will move branches. (photo 1). Nanaw came over to visit Chase for a while and watch Chase play Hoverboard hockey. He had Nanaw take Tee Tee, Lars and Pepper home with her to have a sleepover. (photo 2) Mama, Daddy and Chase had lunch at Syberg's in Arnold and then bought fireworks. Mama decided that she and Chase would stay at the Pear Tree Inn in Arnold because their house was so hot. Chase's friend Hunter (photo 3) and his mom, dad and brother were staying there too. Daddy was going to visit them for a while and then go back home to take care of the pets. Daddy left before the storm hit again. The hotel had an outdoor pool, and Chase and Hunter had a great time swimming (photo 4) until the hotel closed the pool because it stormed. They all hung out in the lobby eating free popcorn and drinking soda till the storm passed and the kids could swim again. For dinner, they had Syberg's again. In the afternoon, Nanaw went to the Cliff Cave library to charge her power pack and enjoy the air-conditioning. She used one of the little study rooms, (photo 5) and that was fun At midnight, Nanaw's power came back on again, and she was very happy about that.
