Chase was supposed to have a new adventure today – going to the Tot Time program at the Columbia Library. Unfortunately, Nanaw left the keys in the ignition of the Escape, and the battery died. So Nanaw had to call Triple A to jump the battery, and it was too late to go to the library program. But Nanaw tried to make it up to Chase by spending lots of time doing his favorite things today: coloring, playing with the mega blocks and playing with Nanaw’s iPod.

Today's adventure was a trip to PNC Bank (where the teller gave Chase a sucker and said how cute he is) and then a shopping trip to Walmart. At Walmart, Chase saw Joe, his Walmart friend, and gave him a wave and a smile, making Joe happy. It was really cold outside with the wind, and Chase made lots of frowns on the parking lot on the way back to the car. Chase's activities today were coloring, playing with his blocks, playing with his shopping cart and the "groceries" Mama gave him, and playing with the Elmo train (which Nanaw moved to the table downstairs). Several times today, on his own, Chase started singing the "ABC" song -- very cute and so smart.

Chase was supposed to have a new library adventure today: block day with Miss Kim at the Telegraph Road Library. It was to be a new program where the boys and girls played with all kinds of blocks. But unfortunately the library was closed today because of the snowfall. When Nanaw drove away from the library, Chase started to cry – evidently he wanted to go in. In the afternoon, Chase had his two-year check-up with his pediatrician, Dr. Charles. Chase was his usual charming, entertaining self, smiling and babbling the whole time. He weighed 30 pounds and is 35 inches tall. He doesn’t have to go back for another check-up until he’s three years old.

Mama and Daddy had the day off for the Martin Luther King holiday. In the morning, Mama, Chase and Nanaw went to Babygarten at the Columbia Library. It was Mama’s first time there, and she said she had a wonderful time. Chase behaved extremely well during Babygarten, doing all the songs sitting on Nanaw’s lap or Mama’s lap. At one point, he started pointing out the numbers on the play rug, totally astounding Mama and Nanaw. Then he began pointing out letters of the alphabet on the rug. Mama and Nanaw had never seen him do anything like that before – it was super surprising. A couple of times, Miss Annette had Chase collect the books and scarves to put them away, and he did fairly well with a little coaching. Nanaw came over to Chase’s house for a delicious pot roast dinner, one of Mama’s best ever dinners.

Sunday, January 19, 2014

Chase’s adventure on Sunday was his cousin Lindsey’s 16th birthday celebration at Nanaw’s house. First, everyone went to Cici’s Pizza for dinner. Because Chase is two years old, he is no longer free at Cici’s – his dinner cost $1.00! During dinner, Chase kept grabbing Nanaw’s breadsticks and eating them – it was very cute. He tried drinking his juice out of a glass with a straw and did amazingly well and didn’t spill anything. Back at Nanaw’s house, Chase did two of his favorite things: coloring and playing with his megablocks. He also did amazingly well eating his ice cream out of a bowl with a spoon. Not so much with the birthday cake – he managed to get crumbs all over.

Nanaw came to visit Chase first thing Saturday morning. Mama, Chase and Nanaw spent time coloring at the kitchen table. Next Chase and Nanaw went into Chase’s room to play. Chase played with his zoo and his megablocks. Then Mama joined them and read a book to Chase. Later in the morning, Daddy and Chase went out to Wentzville to visit Grandma Pat and Aunt Patty. Daddy said Chase had lots of good things to eat, including lots of snacks. In the evening, Daddy and Chase went to Mass, and Daddy said Chase behaved fairly well.

Chase’s adventure today was going to Clayton Laptime. Unfortunately, Miss Jeannie wasn’t there again – it’s been a month since she’s been there but Miss Laura said Miss Jeannie would be back next week. Nanaw had the usual conversation with Chase about sitting on her lap during the stories and songs, and it really worked. Chase sat on Nanaw’s lap the whole time. A little girl named Rifka also sat on Nanaw’s lap, and it was cute to see Rifka and Chase sitting together and doing the motions of the songs. Rifka now wears glasses, and Nanaw took a picture of her. Chase set a record today for the length of his nap: He slept for four hours. Mama said he was really wound-up and energetic tonight, and did a lot of running around the house and up and down the hall.
