Chase's third day of school at home went well. He did morning work, handwriting practice, addition, subtraction and his religion page. He read the religion page to Nanaw and also The Signmaker's Assistant in the heavy book. This is the same story he read to Mama last night. Mama sent ham and cheese sandwiches for Chase for lunch, along with Veggie Straws. Chase helped Nanaw made the sandwiches -- it was very cute. Chase has a new Roblox game that he's enjoying playing. It's Subway, and he went through the Subway hiring process, with an application and then training. Then he got a promotion. He's very excited about the whole thing, and he wants to show Nanaw how to do it. Maybe they'll do that tomorrow. The cleaning lady came today so Chase and Nanaw went downstairs while she was there. Chase played in the play pen with his stuffed animals for awhile and watched Chase TV. Then he played with the three Hot Wheels toys that Nanaw bought for him the last three Christmases. Then he went to the craft table and began drawling -- it was very cute.

Chase's second day of school at home went well. He's such a good little boy. He did his morning work, his math, and his religion studying upstairs. Then Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to the school room where they did handwriting practice, which was fun. Chase had Nanaw do the practice also, and then he graded her work. He said that her r's needed work. He had her write two lines of r's so she could improve. LOL. During one of his recesses on the computer, he created a Roblox game but then deleted it because he didn't like it. Nanaw was sorry because she would have liked to see it. Maybe she can get him to create another game tomorrow. Chase decided he wanted to do his reading in the heavy book at his house with Mama. Then he told Nanaw he would do the heavy book reading again tomorrow with Nanaw, and that made Nanaw happy. He had popcorn chicken and mixed vegetables for lunch.

Here is Chase's first School Day schedule for March 17, 2020: Breakfast; Morning Work; Counting Coins and Paper Money; Handwriting; Math; Recess -- Computer 1 recess; Religion -- God's Gift of Family; Physical Education (spelling out Chase's name); Playing downstairs with toys; Lunch -- Toasted Ravioli; Baseball lunch Recess; Reading; Last recess; Nanaw nap; Chase Play with guys (stuffed animals); 3 p.m.: School Ends; 3-5 p.m. Computer; 5:07 p.m. Chase leaves. Nanaw told Mama that Chase was doing really well, taking this seriously and not fussing at all. Nanaw was very proud of him and so was Mama. He said Mrs. Meyer was going to be  really impressed with his cursive. He certainly has self-confidence. Chase edited the rough draft of the schedule Nanaw made: He changed Nap to Nanaw Nap; for Chase, he was going to play with his guys (stuffed animals). He wrote in that school ends at 3 p.m. and that at 5:07 p.m. Chase goes home. Such a funny kid. Here's what Nanaw posted on Facebook: Chase did well with his first day of at-home school, taking it seriously and not fussing at all. First, he read the comic section of the newspaper. He switched to morning work and then practiced his cursive handwriting. For fun, he did some of the phys. ed. activities, including pushing a ball on the floor using only his head.

It was very sad taking Chase to school on Monday morning. Chase was very sad that he wouldn't be going to school for at least the next two weeks. All the Illinois schools are closed till March 31. Chase loves school, loves his teacher and loves his friends. Nanaw is happy for the bonus Chase time but sorry that the little fellow is so sad. Chase brought home lots of work from school: his handwriting book, his reading book, the religion book, and a science book. He also brought home two weeks worth of spelling words. Nanaw spread everything out on the dining room table (that's the first picture below). Nanaw got an email saying that the county library was closing tonight until April 3. So Mama, Chase and Nanaw made an emergency trip to the library for books for Mama and audio books for Nanaw. Nanaw went shopping after Mama and Chase went home and bought a big bag of mini pretzels for Chase to snack on at "Nanaw School."

Chase and Daddy went to church on Sunday morning but Grandma Pat wasn't feeling up to going. Daddy said there weren't many people there, and they were sitting far away from one another, social distancing. Daddy also said Chase did a lot of pretend baseball playing: batting, catching a ball and throwing a ball. After church, Mama and Chase went to Jackson C's birthday party at a bounce house place in Belleville. Mama said that at first Chase didn't want to go and then he said he wanted to leave early. When the party was over, and it was time to go, Chase didn't want to leave because he was having so much fun. He said he had made some new friends. When Nanaw came over to Chase's house in the evening to visit, Mama had gone to pick up the Pizza Hut pizza she ordered. Chase was downstairs playing his Xbox, and he called out to Nanaw that he was downstairs. Nanaw went downstairs and sat with him while he played. He made one of the Blues players have Chase's last name on his jersey -- Nanaw thought that was really cool. When Mama got home with the food, Chase and Nanaw went upstairs. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw played hockey in the hall. Then they played hockey on Chase's bed with his stuffed animals.

Mama went to the grocery store early on Saturday morning so she didn't bring Chase over to Nanaw's house. She invited Nanaw to go to Dollar Tree with her and Chase, and Nanaw said yes. When Nanaw got to Chase's house, they decided to go to Telegraph Road Schnuck's to look for bananas (Columbia Schnuck's didn't have any), then to Telegraph Road Dollar Tree, and then to the library to return two of Mama's library books. At Schnuck's, Mama bought Chase and her donuts, and also an apple for Chase. Nanaw bought some frozen dinners. Then they went to Dollar Tree where Nanaw bought play money and a morning work book for the two weeks that school is closed. At the library, Mama was generous enough to return the books. Chase ate his donut on the way home and said it was really good. Nanaw is looking forward to having Chase all day for two weeks.

When Nanaw took Chase to school on Friday morning, she got her regular hug from Maria. Nanaw also talked to Mrs. Meyer about the virus. Little did they know that later in the day, the Illinois governor would announce that all schools will be closed for two weeks starting on Tuesday. Mama had a party on Friday evening for Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky (and Nanaw). On their way to Chase's house for the party, Chase and Nanaw stopped at McDonald's to get 10 pieces of chicken for the non-Catholics. Mama fixed Rotel, mozzarella sticks, cheese garlic bread, fettuccini Alfredo, and cheese cake. Quite a feast! Originally, Mama, Daddy, Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky were going to go to the Blues hockey game on Friday. But Mama couldn't find any tickets that cost less than $100 so they decided to have a party and watch the Blues game at Chase's house. However, the virus caused the Blues hockey season to be postponed. So Chase decided they would watch hockey games on the Xbox and that's what they did. It turned out to be very funny. Daddy and Chase were acting like it was a real hockey game. Eventually, Mama and Uncle Mike seemed to think it was a real game also -- very funny.
