Chase did 45 minutes of AR reading on Thursday morning, and he plans to do another 45 minutes on Friday morning to make up for forgetting to do his AR reading on Wednesday. Mama sent along some leftovers from last night's dinner of Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper for Chase's lunch, and he really liked having that. School went well today. Chase and Nanaw did a page of multiplication problems, and then did the division flash cards, Then they did state capitals, the Xplor magazine, a writing organization worksheet, a conjunctions test, angles and lines worksheet, researching a topic (Chase chose the Titanic),  math patterns, math word problems, and word definitions. Mama came to pick Chase up at 4:30. He and Daddy were going to the Legion park for baseball tryouts. Chase had a good attitude about the tryouts, and didn't seem nervous or anxious about them. Mama told Nanaw that the tryouts went okay, although the boys pitching for them were really good pitchers so it was difficult for the boys to get hits off them. They won’t know the results for a while. The second picture below is a selfie that Chase took of himself and Clayton the Coyote.

On Wednesday, Chase forgot to do his AR reading, so he's going to do 45 minutes on Thursday and 45 minutes on Friday. Mama texted Chase that blues player David Perron was going to Detroit, and both of them were very unhappy about that. Chase and Nanaw had a very good day at school. First, they did long division problems, and Nanaw did the problems with Chase. That seems to work very well. He works much more quickly and seems to like competing with Nanaw. Other schoolwork included: multiplication flash cards, state capitals, Xplor science magazine, one worksheet on reorganizing sentences in a paragraph, writing six sentences using its and it's correctly, learning the steps to do a science experiment, and reading a page about various habitats, then answering a series of questions about habitats. In the evening, Chase, Mama and Daddy went to Herbeck's farm for the last practice and get-together of Chase's baseball team. Unfortunately, there won't be enough players for a team next year, so the remaining players are going to do tryouts to find another team to play on. Chase has a tryout tomorrow evening for the Saints team. This is the team Chase really wants to play on. Hopefully, he and his friends will make the team.

Because Chase was up so late on Monday night for his baseball game, Nanaw had him take a nap on Tuesday morning. Miracle of miracles, he slept for an hour. Two more miracles happened: He got dressed on his own, with no request or prompting from Nanaw, and he put his pajamas, etc. in the clothes backpack for the first time ever, all on his own. Will wonders never cease? At school, Chase and Nanaw tried their new process of doing the multiplication or long division problems first. Chase chose to do the multiplication problems, and Nanaw had the idea to do the problems herself on a separate piece of paper while Chase was doing them in the workbook. That worked out perfectly, and Chase enjoyed competing with Nanaw. And they got the multiplication problems done in record time. They did division flash cards, state capitals, the Xplor magazine, two choosing the correct words or synonyms worksheets, a writing organization worksheet, a fraction and decimal worksheet, and a worksheet for correcting run-on sentences and incomplete sentences.

On Monday, Nanaw and Chase forgot to have Chase do his AR reading for the St. Louis County Library Summer Reading Program but they'll try to remember every day from now on. Chase currently has 690 points toward the 1000 points required to complete the program. Chase and Nanaw had school on Monday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. They did state capitals, division flash cards, the Xplor science magazine from Powder Valley, worksheets on fractions and synonyms, and long division problems. Chase and Nanaw decided that from now on, they would do the multiplication or division problem worksheets the first thing when they do school to help him get them done on a timely basis. Chase had his final Crush team baseball game at 8 p.m. on Monday evening. Nanaw went to the game and took frozen bottles of water and fans to help keep her cool. Chase pitched for several innings and did a wonderful job. He had a really good time at the game and ended up covered in dirt.

Nanaw went over to Chase's house on Sunday evening for dinner and to visit with Chase. On Saturday, Mama had gone to Schneider's meat market in Waterloo and spent $50 on steaks: a T-bone for Nanaw, a rib-eye for Daddy, and sirloin strip steaks for her and Chase. She went to Stuckmeyer's for corn on the cob and got five ears for $2. When Nanaw got to Chase's house, he was in Mama's office playing baseball on the X-Box. He said he and Daddy went to church in the morning. Dinner was delicious. Nanaw gave one big bone to Sam and two little bones to Sylvester, and they were very happy. They also each got four bites of steak so it was a good evening for them. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw went out in the back yard, and Chase did fireworks: snakes, poppers and smoke bombs. He loves lighting fireworks, and he's fairly careful. When he was done with fireworks, he decided to go swimming. Daddy came outside to pitch the ball to Chase, and they played water baseball. Mama said that they would have floats later in the evening, but she didn't know what flavor yet.

On Saturday morning, Chase went with Mama and Daddy to visit Grandma Pat. Before they left, Chase drew a picture of his stuffed peppermint stick named Pepper for Grandma Pat. Mama sent Nanaw a picture of the drawing of Pepper; it's the first picture below. Chase said Grandma Pat liked her picture and was going to hang it up on the door to her room. After they left from seeing Grandma Pat, they went to Fortel's for lunch. Mama and Daddy had pizza, and Chase had three pretzels. When Nanaw got home from the little house, she went to visit Chase. Mama said he was in her office playing with the Xbox. Nanaw went to sit with him and watch him play many baseball games on the Xbox. They talked about the things he had done that day. He and Daddy went running in the park, and they ran 1 3/4 miles, their farthest ever. When it was time for Nanaw to go home, she went outside to say good-bye to Mama and Daddy. They were out at the WE Bar, with a fire in the firepit. Later, after Nanaw left, Chase came outside and played baseball with Daddy.

On Friday morning, Chase and Nanaw finally got to have their exciting adventure: going to the Science Center. It's been almost three years since their last visit because of the pandemic. They always loved going to see the exhibits and participate in the hands-on displays. The free parking lot was still closed so they went to park in the $15 lot. Nanaw had wanted Chase to experience the virtual reality headsets and maybe the virtual reality paid experience but it ended up not happening. They couldn't find the virtual reality headsets and couldn't find anyone to ask about them. They found the virtual reality transporter but Chase didn't want to go on it. He was very resistant to most things but then when he saw some of his familiar activities he was better. And when Nanaw bought movie popcorn for him, things got even better. When they were outside the Science Center, Chase said their visit had turned out good after all. They did school in the afternoon: state capitals, division flash cards, a persuasive writing exercise about convincing someone that a dragon would be a good pet, multiplication problems, division problems, and a parts of speech worksheet.
