Daddy took Chase to school today to make sure that he went and because Mama went into the office. Nanaw thought Mama wanted her to take Chase on Wednesday but it turns out that it's Tuesday -- and also Wednesday and Thursday. Nanaw will be firm and tell Chase he's going to school. Mama went to talk to someone about her sleep study today and is very happy that she gets to do it at home rather than at the sleep study place. Nanaw picked Chase up from school, and he told her he didn't have any homework. Nanaw tried to get him to work on some of the things that are due this week but he said no, he wanted to play on his phone and on the computer. He had some blueberries and strawberries, a cheese sandwich and a glass of Lactaid milk. He'd been fine, then he threw up and decided he couldn't go to baseball practice. He called Daddy and told him that. Chase wanted to go back to playing on the computer but Nanaw said no. She said they would spend the few minutes they had before it was time to take Chase home working on his book report that's due on Friday. He did the acrostic and the word cloud for one of the characters Luke. He went to hockey practice so that was a good thing.

Chase and Daddy went to church Sunday morning, and he seemed to be feeling okay. He worked on his history assignment to create information and a poster for a pretend movie about a Revolutionary War hero. He picked Henry Knox, a Founding Father of the U.S., who became the commander of the Army and then Secretary of War, after fighting in several key battles of the war. Mama told Nanaw he had saved part of the report to work on with Nanaw when she came to visit. Nanaw made some suggestions on how Chase could add some information to his report. He did a really good job on it, and Nanaw was proud of what he had done. They talked about his book report, which is due on Friday (Nanaw's birthday!!). They're going to start working on it on Tuesday. Mama and Daddy are going to take Chase to school on Monday and Tuesday to make sure he goes and doesn't stay home because of his stomach. Nanaw will take him to school Wednesday with the same directions. Brady is going to have his birthday party next Saturday at Urban Air (probably the one located in Fairview Heights), and Chase is looking forward to it.

On Saturday morning, Mama told Nanaw that Sam was having trouble with his back legs and couldn't walk. The vet was all booked and couldn't see him. So Mama and Daddy were going to take him to the emergency vet in Ballwin. She told Nanaw she could come over and visit Chase. Chase played with his Playmobil and watched the hockey channel on TV in the living room. He also played a video game on the TV in Mama's office. Then he came back in the living room and watched TV and took a brief nap. Nanaw brought in Lars, Dylan and Tee Tee to keep him company. Mama sent Nanaw a text saying that Sam has doggie vertigo, and he's going to be fine. Everybody had been very worried about Sam and were so relieved that he was okay. Mama told Nanaw about the fish fry on Friday night. It was at Turner Hall, which is next to the little library park, and the boys went over to play there. The boys were almost the whole lunch table gang -- Chase, Cole, Brady, Hunter, and Drew. Only Joey and Cam were missing. Somehow Chase hurt his ankle so he and Daddy went home early. Mama and Nanaw went on a shopping adventure. First, they went to Best Buy to look at laptops, and then they went to Office Max/Depot so Mama could buy notebooks and pens for herself and other people at work. Evidently, the workers can't get the office supplies they want -- they have to get what's on the approved list.

Daddy had the day off on Friday so he took Chase to school. Chase said he didn't feel well but Mama and Daddy said he was going to school . 10 a.m., Mama called to say the school secretary had called her and said Chase wasn't feeling well. So Daddy went to pick Chase up and take him to Nanaw's house. He had some schoolwork with him so he worked on that. When he was done, he and Nanaw went over the math test that he got a 33 on. He had skipped one of the problems completely and then missed two problems because he was confused about skewed and symmetrical data sets. Nanaw went to Schnucks's to get bread and cheddar cheese for his lunch and her newspaper. Cheddar cheese is one of the cheeses he can have; the doctor said it's a hard cheese. He can't have meat today and very few cheeses but it worked out for him to have cheddar. If the lactose-free diet doesn't help Chase's stomach, Daddy and Mama are going to try a gluten-free diet. For a while, Chase played in his room with the Playmobil and watched a hockey game on his TV. He also played on the computer in the computer lab and played on his phone and the car phone. Daddy put an app on his phone that limits Chase's screen time. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Daddy took Chase to school on Thursday morning instead of Nanaw. Once again, Chase said he didn't feel well and didn't think he could go to school but Mama and Daddy said he was going. He told Mama that he took his math and religion tests today; yesterday his teacher asked if he wanted to wait to take the tests until Thursday, and he said yes. Mama picked Chase up from school at about 1 p.m. for his doctor's appointment with the gastroenterologist. Her office is on Tesson Ferry Road, not too far from his pediatrician's office. This was a follow-up visit where they talked about the results of Chase's tests. It turns out that the doctor doesn't know what's causing Chase's problems. She's taken him off milk and milk products (cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) She says he can have Lactaid milk and hard cheese but not soft cheese, plus lactose-free ice cream. He's also taking several medicines; one reduces the acid in his stomach. They have another follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks. Chase didn’t feel well enough to go for his hitting lesson so Nanaw came over to visit about 5 p.m. She helped Chase with his homework. He had a page of math problems, two English worksheets, dealing with adjectives again, and the rest of his vocab assignment. Because he can't have cheese and yogurt for breakfast, he's going to have toast and cereal at Nanaw's house. Nanaw will have to bring her toaster oven upstairs. Mama took Chase to school on Wednesday morning to make sure that he went to school. He had started saying he didn't feel well and didn't think he should go to school. But Mama said he'd missed too much school this year and that he had to go. Nanaw missed seeing Chase in the morning but she understood that Mama could be tougher than Nanaw with him. When Mama picked Chase up from school, she talked with one of the other grandmas in Chase's room, and she said her grandson had missed three days this week so far. Nanaw was glad to see Chase but he sort of dragged himself along. He said he couldn't go to baseball practice because he didn't feel well. After school, he worked on his vocab packet that was due Thursday. He also did an English worksheet about demonstrative and interrogative adjectives, a subject they've been working on for the past couple of days. He did part of his vocab assignment that's due in AR on Friday. He says he'll finish it on Thursday.

Chase was sick again on Tuesday morning. He said he had severe pain in his stomach; at one point he said the pain was excruciating. Mama really wanted Chase to go to school, and she told Nanaw to take him. But when Nanaw got to the drop-off place, Chase wouldn't get out of the car so Nanaw left and went home. Mama wanted Nanaw to take Chase to the Columbia urgent care clinic. But when they got there, the urgent care clinic had closed in December 2023. Mama had forgotten that it closed. So then Mama asked Nanaw to take Chase to the urgent care clinic on Telegraph Road. When they got there, Nanaw was told that they had to get on the waitlist and then it would be several hours before a doctor would be with them. Nanaw asked Mama what they should do, and at first, she said they should get on the list and then find out if they could go home and come back when it was their turn. Then she said that instead, Nanaw should call Chase's doctor's office and see if they could get him in. So that's what they did; they had an appointment for 3:10 p.m. Mama texted Nanaw to let her know Chase's homework was in the black box outside the front door of the school. Nanaw and Chase picked up the homework and then they went to Chase's house, and he worked on his homework. He got everything done except his science. At the doctor's appointment, Nanaw really liked the doctor, and the doctor came up with some good ideas for Chase. She thinks he might have irritable bowel syndrome. She put her suggestions in a document for the gastroenterologist appointment on Thursday. The picture below is Chase lying on the exam table playing with the car phone. The day ended well with Chase feeling like his healthy self.
