On Thursday morning, Chase said he felt better, which made Mama and Nanaw happy. Today for lunch he had sausage and waffles, one of his favorite lunches. When he came out of school, he said he got an 89 on his science test, and he was happy about that. Science is one of his hardest classes, and the teacher is a strict grader. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he didn't want to do any homework after school. He said he could some of it on the drive to and from Omaha, in Omaha and on Sunday. He has a fair amount to do so it's good that he'll start on it over the weekend rather than waiting till Monday. Mama brought Sylvester and Tyler over to stay with Nanaw while they go to Omaha for the hockey tournament. It was very sad not having the precious Sam there for a sleepover with Nanaw. Chase has hockey practice tonight, and Mama has lots of packing to do. She bought Chase a good supply of his favorite kinds of candy for the trip. Nanaw will miss them.

Chase spilled chocolate milk on his shirt Wednesday morning so Nanaw had him wear the white shirt she has. She got the chocolate out during the day. Nanaw was supposed to give Cole a ride home from school but Chase and Nanaw couldn't find him. Then he showed up at the car so everything was all right. Chase told Nanaw he didn't fell well, and he thought it was allergies. When he got home, he laid down on the bed, and Nanaw brought him Tylenol and water. She covered him with a blanket, and he fell asleep. He has an English essay to work on, some geography work and his AR. Nanaw thinks he has baseball practice tonight but she's not sure he'll feel well enough to go. She didn't get a chance to ask him about his marathon math test but maybe she'll do that on the drive home. They're both enjoying the heated seats in Nanaw's car, and Nanaw likes the heated steering wheel.

Chase's big mid-quarter math test is Wednesday and Thursday. Chase and Nanaw compared their answers on the big math packets. Chase only missed one; Nanaw missed a coup. Chase said he thought he did well on the science test, probably better than he did on the Mockingbird test. Both tests had tricky questions that weren't included on the study materials. On the drive home from school, Mama told Chase she had scheduled his birthday party at the Columbia bowling alley on Friday, December 27. She invited the members of the crew: Brady, Cole, Hunter, Drew and Joey. She also invited the boys to spend the night at Chase's house.

Chase's science test was rescheduled to Tuesday from Wednesday because of a Builders Club meeting on Wednesday. Chase has a Mockingbird test on chapters 5 through 9 on Tuesday, and he and Nanaw studied the Mockingbird packet, some Quizlet questions and some ChatGPT questions. Nanaw told Mama what she still needed to spend on Chase for his birthday and Christmas, and Mama said she would think of some ideas of things for Nanaw to get Chase. In the evening, Chase and Mama went to Pure Hockey and bought a $240.00 hockey stick for Chase to replace the one he broke on Sunday. Nanaw had no idea hockey sticks cost so must. She was surprised during this past summer to learn that baseball bats could cost $100 to $200.

Chase and Daddy went to mass on Sunday morning. Mama said Chase played outside for awhile on Sunday afternoon. Then he worked on his huge math packet and did his AR. Chase had a hockey game on Sunday afternoon so he and Mama, Daddy and Chase were all so excited that Chase's team won the hockey game 6 to 1. For the first time, Chase broke his hockey stick so now he has to buy a new stick. He's started looking online for a stick and seems to have really definite ideas about what kind of hockey stick he wants. Mama heated up leftover lasagna for their dinner because Nanaw hadn't fixed the turkey soup yet; she promised to make it on Monday. Mama offered to heat some lasagna up for Nanaw but Nanaw said no, thank you. When Nanaw came over to visit Chase on Sunday evening, after they got back from the hockey game and had eaten dinner, she brought along her copy of the math packet so she could finish the problems. She and Chase would compare answers before math his test started on Wednesday. It's a mid-quarter math exam, and it was going to take the class Wednesday and Thursday to do it.

On Saturday morning, it snowed, the first snowfall of the year. Columbia got about two inches, and Chase was excited. Mama said he was watching the forecast on his phone all the way home from the morning's hockey practice. During the day, Chase worked on his science fair project, printing out the pages with the information and laying it out before pasting everything to the display boards. The project is due on December 9, and Mama is determined that Chase will have everything done before they leave for the hockey tournament in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday morning. In the evening, Mama created an adventure for everyone. First, she fixed absolutely delicious lasagna for dinner, along with herb flavored butter braids. The butter braids are part of the space camp fund raising project at Chase's school. For Thanksgiving breakfast, Mama fixed cherry butter braids. She bought one of each kind. Nanaw thinks Mama used Grandma Marge's lasagna recipe but left out the cottage cheese. Nanaw liked it that way and so did Mama. After dinner, they watched a movie -- Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation. It's such a funny movie, and even Chase watched and laughed. Mama fixed yummy popcorn.

Mama, Chase and Nanaw had their annual day after Thanksgiving adventure on Friday. About 10:30, they went to the Train House . Transportation Museum to see the humongous Christmas train display. It was marvelous, as always. Nanaw got to see her train engineer friend, Dave. She and Mama made sure to find out his last name -- Barbichesley -- so they could stalk him online. One of the other engineers also talked to Nanaw and Chase, saying he remembered seeing them when Chase was little and then year after year. Someday, Chase and Nanaw should take Uncle Mike. He and Mama used to go there when they were little. Mama, Chase and Nanaw walked around the reindeer area and took pictures, then went back to the main building to get their usual popcorn, which was delicious as always. Lunch was at Arby's. Then it was on to HandyMan Hardware to see their Christmas decoration display. They had cuddle stuffed animals on sale for $6.00, and Nanaw bought a beige and brown soft dog she named Handy. Mama bought an extension cord because she feels guilty going to look at their decorations and not buying anything. Uncle Mike worked so hard on Friday putting up Nanaw's beautiful outdoor decorations.
