When Chase and Nanaw got to school, they learned that Mrs. Herrmann had lost her voice. She had a little black microphone that she used so that the boys and girls could hear her. She managed to talk a little to Nanaw about Chase, saying he was doing phenomenally. She said he's excelling in reading and writing. She said sometimes he's so quiet it would be easy to overlook him but that he's doing amazingly. Nanaw was so happy to hear that about her bug. After school, Chase and Nanaw played in his room and watched Chase TV. Then he took his bath toys and put them in the bath tub and took a pretend bath -- it was funny and cute -- Nanaw took a picture and sent it to Mama -- who really liked the picture. Chase had a baseball game in the evening and got good hits both times he batted. The first two photos below are ones that Nanaw took Monday night when she was taking Chase home -- he wore his Batman robe home and put the hood up -- very cute.

When Chase got to school on Monday, Nanaw took a picture of all the green bean plants -- they're absolutely huge. Chase brought his plant home with him from school; so Chase and Nanaw stopped at Chase's house to leave the plant there because Nanaw was afraid the plant might get damaged. Daddy told Chase he would plant it for Chase. Mama and Daddy were going to work at the concession stand at the Legion baseball park on Monday night so Chase stayed with Nanaw. They played baseball in the front yard, and then they played kick ball. They also cleaned out the planters in preparation for Uncle Mike planting flowers, tomatoes and cucumbers on Sunday for Nanaw's Mother's Day present. Chase and Nanaw had dinner together, and then Chase took a bath in the garden tub. Nanaw filled the tub really full and put in lots of bubbles, much to Chase's delight.

On Sunday afternoon, Chase and Daddy went out to visit Grandma Pat in Wentzville to celebrate Daddy's birthday. When they got home, Chase played outside. When Nanaw called Mama about coming to visit, Mama said they were outside playing hockey. Nanaw came for dinner -- delicious barbecued pork and onion rings. After dinner, while Mama was cleaning up the kitchen, Chase and Nanaw played with some of the things Nanaw brought along. There was one game of matching a word to a picture card. Chase did really well at that, knowing all the words and remembering where the cards were. When Mama was done cleaning up, Mama, Chase and Nanaw took Sam for a walk. When they walked by the Etling's house, Alaina was at the front door and Chase and Nanaw waved to her. Sam had a good time barking and growling at the dogs he saw. Chase picked up eight pine cones on the walk and gave them to Nanaw for a collection at her house. When they got home, they had dessert -- cheese cake baked by Grandma Pat and orange sherbet.

Saturday, Cinco de Mayo, is Daddy's birthday and cousin Joe's birthday. Chase gave Daddy a Blues coffee cup and Mama gave Daddy a Fitbit. Mama told Nanaw that when they got home Friday night from the Family Fun night, the had birthday cake and orange sherbet. Mama had baked a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for Daddy because it's his favorite cake. Nanaw went to Chase's baseball practice and watched him throw, catch and hit. He really likes baseball and has a lot of fun with it. After practice, Mama and Chase went to lunch with Aunt Becca in Millstadt. Daddy went golfing with Chris and Stan. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Aunt Becca's and Uncle Stan's for onion burgers and to celebrate Daddy's birthday. When Chase went to school on Friday morning, he was happy to see that Mrs. Herrmann was back. Everybody was so excited to see how much their green beans had grown. Nanaw took a picture of the tall plants. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the Telegraph Road Library so Nanaw could check out audio books. Chase was unbelievably dirty, and Nanaw tried to clean him up. Chase picked out a Star Wars book and checked it out all by himself. Nanaw is so proud. The library had a big Star Wars book display for May the fourth be with you day. Chase selected sour Sweet Tarts from the "bending machine. Uncle Mike came to cut the grass, and Chase was happy to see him. In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to the Family Fun Festival at Chase's church. He had a super fun time in the two bounce houses and spent most of his time there. He also did the bean bag toss, got a Cardinals' emblem painted on his face, and played basketball with Brady and some other kids. He had a great time.

When Chase got to school, he and Nanaw discovered that Mrs. Herrmann wasn't there; Mrs. Sullivan was the teacher for the day. Evidently, Mrs. Herrmann's arm was really bad and she couldn't be there. The air conditioning man came in the morning but Nanaw's air conditioner has a leak, and he didn't have time to fix it then. He said he'd be back. Nanaw opened all the windows and doors to cool off the house, and when the cleaning lady got there, she thought someone had broken into Nanaw's house. So she had the Merry Maids office call Nanaw to make sure everything was okay. Nanaw got to school at 2:57 to pick up Chase but Mrs. Sullivan had let the class out early so Chase had been waiting for Nanaw for a minute or two. On the way to the car, Chase stepped in all the water puddles he could find. The air conditioning men came right after Chase and Nanaw got home. They fixed the air conditioner but Nanaw is going to get a new air conditioner and furnace in early June. Chase and Nanaw played downstairs for awhile, playing school and trains and workbench.

Once again in the morning, Chase and Nanaw did "Check, Baby, Check" to guarantee they remembered everything they were supposed to take to school. Nanaw's air conditioning is still not fixed so it's very warm in Nanaw's house -- 85 degrees. Nanaw had a wonderful time volunteering in Chase's classroom in the afternoon. Her job was to show each boy and girl the seeds they planted to see if they were growing. Everybody's seeds are growing except for Henry's. Hopefully, in the next day or so his will sprout. Nanaw did an excellent job of remembering who had seen their seeds -- she does very well in memorizing the boys and girls. Mrs. Herrmann hurt her arm while working out and was having trouble doing anything. After school, Chase and Nanaw came straight home because Nanaw thought the A/C man might call but he didn't. Chase and Nanaw played baseball, ping pong, soccer and kick ball. Nanaw called Mama to come pick Chase up because the A/C man might call but he didn't.
