Mama had the day off on Friday for Chase's birthday.  She told Nanaw that he was so excited for his birthday. Mama and Nanaw went Christmas shopping again, and then Nanaw picked Chase up from school and took him back to her house. They went to Chase's house at the regular time. Grandma Pat gave Chase his birthday present from her: a tackle box. Chase was so happy with it. Fishing is his new obsession. Uncle Stan and Aunt Becca were there visiting. Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to Steak N Shake for Chase's birthday dinner, their usual tradition.  Chase had an M&M shake,  corn dogs and fries. Nanaw had a double steak burger with no bun and everything on it; Chase called it a steak burger salad. Mama and Daddy had steak burgers and split a shake. When they got home, Chase opened his birthday presents. From Mama and Daddy, he got two pairs of Snoopy Christmas pajamas, a new Fire tablet, and three Nerf pistols. From Nanaw, he got the three Dog Man books he didn't have, a microscope, a tiny fishing game, a small Hot Wheels toy, a tall Santa Jack Skellington, a H8ungry Hippo ornament, 2 remote control racing cars, laser tag and a Fortnite figure. After presents, they drove about various neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights. Mama had bought a cookie cake for Chase's birthday but nobody had any. The first picture below is from Uncle Mike's outdoor Christmas display. They won the Ferguson decorating contest again. The second picture is Mama's Facebook post with an infant picture of Chase and a eight-year old dressed in his Sunday best.

Nanaw carried Chase's birthday cupcakes into his classroom this morning. Mama decided to send them today because the class is having a Christmas party tomorrow on Chase's actual birthday. Nanaw had Chase carry his water bottle and backpack in so she could carry the cupcakes. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he had three white cupcakes left. He's going to offer them to Mama, Daddy and Grandma Pat. He offered one to Nanaw but she said no thank you but they're not gluten-free. He said he read two chapters of his Dog Man -- Fetch-22 to the class. He also showed the class his hockey puck. On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw stopped at Chase's house to let the dogs out and give them lunch meat. Nanaw took pictures of Sylvester with his toy duck and Sam playing in the snow and sent them to Mama. Chase played in the snow at his house and then at Nanaw's house. He got his shoes very wet so Nanaw dried them on the heat vent. Chase and Nanaw went to the post office to mail a Christmas card and Christmas card to Nanaw's friend Kate. When they got home, Chase played on the laptop and then on Nanaw's phone. He had Nanaw download three hockey apps for him. Chase and Nanaw played hockey in the hallway for awhile before Daddy came to pick Chase up when he got off work. Mama was at a happy hour for her friend Charles' birthday.

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

Chase finally got to go back to school on Wednesday. Nanaw carried in his ornament for the ornament exchange, his bag of special things for his special birthday week (it turned out to be special birthday three days), his backpack and his water. Chase carried nothing, as usual. It's very funny that Chase considers his Nanaw his minion. Mrs. Meyer said she had to squeeze five days of Christmas into three days for the boys and girls. Nanaw took Chase home at 4 p.m. so Daddy could take him to his orthodontist appointment. Nanaw was very excited about the Christmas program on Wednesday night. It was the first program in the new school and there was room to park and enough room for everyone to have a seat. Kindergarten through third grade did the Christmas story and then sang a selection of Christmas carols. It was delightful. Chase wore his Sunday best and looked very handsome.

Mama went into the office on Tuesday so she dropped Chase off on her way. Chase and Nanaw worked on the paper that Chase is making about the game Plants vs. Zombies. They cut out little pieces of paper, drew zombies on them, and colored the zombies. Then Chase used the glue stick to put the zombie pictures on the page. He has lots of them on there. Chase played hockey in the hall for awhile, then played Roblox hockey on the laptop. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went outside to play in the snow again. They made snowballs with the snowball maker, and Nanaw tried to make a block of snow with the block maker but it didn't turn out too well. When they came inside, Nanaw made snow ice cream again. Chase wanted whipped cream this time so Nanaw put some in his bowl with his snow ice cream. The next door neighbor made a cute little snowman; Chase and Nanaw might try to make one after school tomorrow. Yes, Chase goes back to school tomorrow. Tomorrow night is his Christmas program. Nanaw is looking forward to that. On the way home to Chase's house, Nanaw went by way of the post office to mail her Christmas cards. Mama texted Nanaw to let her know that Chase has an orthodontist appointment tomorrow and Nanaw has to take him home at 4 so they probably won't be able to build a snowman. Mama also texted Nanaw that Chase was watching Charlie Brown on TV, which made Mama and Nanaw very happy.

Chase and Nanaw had a fun snow day together. It wasn't snowing first thing Monday morning so Nanaw went over to Chase's house to pick him up. Mama packed his snow pants, boots, etc. It started to snow hard later in the morning and by the afternoon, six inches or so of snow had fallen. Chase was very excited about the snow and about going out to play in it. He and Nanaw went outside in the afternoon after the heavy snow had slowed down. They made snowballs with the new snowball maker and had a snowball fight. Grand fun! Chase rolled around in the snow and had lots of fun. When they went back into the house, Nanaw made snow ice cream for them, with chocolate syrup and sprinkles. Chase was very excited about the snow ice cream. At the end of the day, Daddy came over to shovel Nanaw's driveway and to pick up Chase. Nanaw told Daddy she only needed half of the driveway shoveled. Later in the evening, Mama let Nanaw know that school would be closed again on Tuesday. Another bonus day with Chase! Yay!

Chase's first adventure on Saturday was his soccer game. He played well but unfortunately, his team lost. But it's all about having fun. Chase's second Saturday adventure was going to Uncle Mike's annual Christmas party. Nanaw brought along the Road Bingo game she bought for Chase at Dollar Tree. Mama helped them find things. Chase won, of course; but Nanaw thinks it was actually legal. At Uncle Mike's, Chase and Nanaw played with the toys she brought along for him. She brought his classic Legos, the Roblox figures and ten Hot Wheels cars. They played for a long while on the living room floor, in front of the fireplace and by the Christmas tree. Chase ate lots of green and red chips. Nanaw was very excited that she got to see Uncle Mike's cat Tucker a couple of times and got to take pictures of him. And he didn't hiss at Nanaw, which is what he usually used to do. After eating, they went downstairs to see how Uncle Mike knocked down the wall that had been in cousin Joe's room. Some of the guests were playing pool, and Chase was fascinated with watching them. When Chase finally came upstairs, he played games on Daddy's phone for awhile. Then he got out the Legos, Roblox figures and Hot Wheels, and he and Nanaw played with them again until it was time to leave. On their way out to the car, Mama, Daddy. Chase and Nanaw walked around Uncle Mike's front yard to see his super-duper Christmas decorations. Chase made everyone go in the proper entrance: Candy Cane Lane. He was very cute about it.

Winter weather came today with a snowstorm. Nanaw went to Gravois Bluffs after church because it hadn't started snowing yet. When she came out of Schnuck's, it had started to flurry. By the time she got home, 20 minutes later, it had really snowed hard and there was at least an inch of snow, and maybe more, everywhere. Nanaw called Mama, and they decided Nanaw should come to visit right away in case the roads got really bad. In fact, the roads were already bad. Nanaw skidded a few times, and the four-wheel drive kicked in every time she stopped at a stop sign. Nanaw took the snowball maker with her to give to Chase in case he and Daddy went out to play in the snow. When Nanaw got to Chase's house, he and Daddy were downstairs playing with the guitars. Chase decided they would come upstairs with the guitars. He announced, "The band is back together!" It was very cute. Grandma Pat was making peanut butter balls, and Nanaw taste-test one -- delicious! And Chase had one and agreed. Then Daddy and Chase played the guitar and Nanaw sang along with them to the Twelve Days of Christmas. Then, Nanaw decided she'd better get home so she didn't get stuck in the snow. Later, Mama sent Nanaw a picture of Chase all bundled up in his snow gear to go outside and play with the snowball maker.
