Chase had a hockey tournament all day and evening on Saturday so Nanaw didn’t get to visit him. Everybody has been talking about the EF3 tornado that went through St. Louis on Friday. It missed Columbia except for some power outages— Mama said theirs was out for awhile. On Saturday night Chase’s hockey team played Andrew’s team for the first time. Andrew is one of his classmates and one of the four hockey players in Chase’s grade. Chase’s team lost the game.

Chase's hockey team played Andrew’s team again on Sunday and lost again. Today’s game was the championship. Mama says the boys fought hard and had fun. Chase got checked into the boards and hurt his knee so he’s not going to baseball later. Nanaw went to visit Chase about five on Sunday evening. She had a lot of fun watching Chase do all kinds of sports activities. First, in the back yard, he played fungo baseball, which is where you toss the ball in the air and then hit it. He got lots of really good hits. Next, he had Daddy move the cars out of the garage so he could play roller blade hockey. He found a puck, got out a hockey stick and set up the hockey net. Nanaw got a chair from the patio so she could sit and watch. He played for a really long time. Nanaw realized that the reason Chase is a little bit thin is that he’s incredibly physically active. His final activity of the evening was hitting a ping pong ball with a paddle in the front yard. While he was playing and Nanaw was watching, Chase’s principal and his wife walked by and said hello to Chase and Nanaw.

When Chase got to Nanaw’s house on Monday morning, Mama said his knee that got hurt yesterday playing hockey was really hurting him, and Mama gave him Tylenol. He really shouldn’t have done all that physical activity Sunday evening with an injured knee. He didn’t want to go to school but Nanaw said it would be okay. She put some of her arthritis medicine on his knee, and he said it was like a miracle that it stopped hurting. He went to school and everything was fine. He had a little bit of homework, and he got it done after school. He finished his AR reading last week so he didn’t have to do that. Yesterday Nanaw had the realization that Chase is really smart. Somehow despite Chase's excellent grades she hadn't actually realized what a smart student he is. He’s going to get all As on his report card except for a B in religion. Before Nanaw took Chase home, she put some more of the arthritis medicine on his knee and sent the tube home with him.
