When Nanaw took Chase to school on Thursday, she gave Mrs. Neff the extra stack of papers Chase came home with and told her that when Chase was cleaning up the mess on his desk, he ended up with some of Bella's papers and lots of extra stuff. We laughed at that. Today was Nanaw's volunteer day at Chase's school. She had a new little girl in the first group named Lizzie. She didn’t have two of her regulars: Cole and Evan. They learned about stars, and Nanaw had a great time. Chase is so cute when his Nanaw volunteers. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she told him that had a project when they got home: They had to find Charlie, who'd been missing all day. Chase said maybe he's hiding or maybe he's dead; Nanaw didn't know where that came from, and she didn't want to think that. Chase and Nanaw looked everywhere but couldn't find him. Nanaw used a flashlight to look, and Sidney kept chasing the light; it was very funny. Mama came over about five with Sam; Mama and Chase were calling Sam the sniffer. Sam looked everywhere but didn't find Charlie. He had a lot of fun chasing Sidney and Taylor. After Mama, Sam and Chase went home, Nanaw turned on the front porch light and the lower deck light in case Charlie got outside. Then, all of a sudden Charlie appeared at the end of the hall. Nanaw was so happy! She wishes she knew where Charlie was hiding so that this wouldn't happen again. Nanaw told the kitties that as a special treat she would let them sleep with her tonight because tomorrow is her birthday.

Daddy had the day off from work on Ash Wednesday. He took Chase to church for mass and then took him to school. Nanaw had the cable guy coming at 1 p.m. and she wasn't sure he'd be done before it was time to pick up Chase from school but he was. Chase was the last one out of the school from his class, and Mrs. Neff told Nanaw he was coming -- he had to clean up the mess on his desk. At first, he wouldn't tell Nanaw what happened but he finally told her Brady took his folder and dumped his papers. Somehow Chase ended up with Bella's papers so he'll take them back to her tomorrow. After school, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs while Nanaw walked on the treadmill and Chase played hockey in the playpen -- who knows! In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to Chase's ice skating lessons. He did better than ever this week, even gliding. Mama is going to ask him he wants to take another course of skating lessons. He has one more lesson in this course; the new course starts Monday, March 18.

Nanaw used an incentive Tuesday morning to get Chase to get dressed quickly. She said he could text Nanaw if he got dressed first, and he did. Incentives work! Chase had the idea to text Mama and Nanaw; Nanaw told him they could do that after school, that it was called a group text, and she would set it up for Chase. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the Columbia library to pick up a book for Mama. They looked for a Roblox book bu the library didn't have any but Chase checked out a Pokemon book. Then they went to the Telegraph road library where they picked up another book for Mama, found another Pokemon book, and put two Roblox books on request. When they got home, they did the group texting thing. Chase even taught himself how to text a photo. He took a picture of his stuffed "amamals" lying on the futon and texted it to Mama -- what a smart little fellow he is. After he stopped texting, he played hockey in the hall.

Chase had the day off from school for Casimir Pulaski Day (that's a holiday in Illinois). It was really cold outside -- five degrees. So Chase had three hats: a hoodie, a knit cap and his coat hood. Nanaw and Chase had a major adventure: They went to the Science Center, where they hadn't been in a long while. It was very exciting because they had all kinds of new displays and activities. Chase was especially excited about the huge game area. They had basketball hoops, a foosball game, floor soccer, a floor game with dragons, all kinds of video games, virtual reality headsets, old computer games and lots more. It was absolutely fascinating, and Chase and Nanaw will have to go back and try everything. They also changed the displays on the ramp area leading from the planetarium to the Science Center. They had a microscope display and two microscopes you could use to look at rocks and porcupine quills and fossils. Really cool! They stayed almost three hours, and Nanaw expected Chase to protest when Nanaw said it was time to go. He only said, "Can we come back soon?" and Nanaw said "Yes, of course." In the afternoon, Chase took a long nap; Nanaw thinks he wore himself out playing at the Science Center.

Sunday, March 3, 2019

Neither Nanaw nor Chase went to church on Sunday because of the snow. In the afternoon, Mama, Daddy and Chase came over to Nanaw's house so Daddy could shovel the snow and so Nanaw could visit with her buddy Chase. Chase had on his snow boots and snow pants so Nanaw thought he would play in the snow at her house but he didn't. Instead, he took off his boots and came and lay down on the couch. He kept his hat, his coat and his snow pants on. Nanaw got his pillows and his blanket and Mama tucked him in like a burrito. Nanaw also got Love Hugs for him, and they cuddled together. When Daddy finished shoveling the driveway and came inside, Chase took everyone back to the "computer lab" so he could show them Seussville, the website Mrs. Neff told them about on Friday. Chase played with that for awhile. Then it was time for everyone to go home. Chase was going to take Love Hugs home with him for a sleepover but forgot so Love Hugs stayed with Nanaw. Chase has the day off from school tomorrow so he and Nanaw are going to the Science Center. Nanaw also plans on doing some straightening up downstairs and in Chase's room.

Saturday was Chase's last soccer game of the season, and he scored two goals! Yay! He was so happy about it He was really playing better as the season progressed. In the evening, Mama and Daddy had a Mardi Gras party. Chase was very excited about it because his friends were coming: Little Will and the two Jacksons. The boys played together all evening, and it was very cute for Nanaw to watch. They played a lot of hockey, all over the house, and they also played hockey video games. They had Mardi Gras masks, and moustache straws -- very funny. Mama had all kinds of delicious food. She made jambalaya, gumbo, cheesy crescent smokies, and lots of dips. There was also a Mardi Gras cookie and a Mardi Gras cake -- all yummy. Tyler had an escape episode but got scared and ran back into the house. Then someone left the back door open, and everyone thought Tyler had escaped again, but Nanaw found him lying on a kitchen chair, covered by the tablecloth.

Friday, March 1, 2019

Mama had the day off from work on Friday so she took Chase to school. But Nanaw got to pick him up from school and keep him till 5 -- yay! When Nanaw picked him up, he told her about a new thing the did in school today. They learned about a website called Seussville and that's what Chase wanted to play with on the computer. Mrs. Neff sent information about it and about Dr. Seuss in this week's newsletter. Tomorrow is Dr. Seuss's birthday. In class, the boys and girls made books about Dr. Seuss, and Chase was very proud of it. He also watched hockey videos on the laptop. In the evening, Nanaw went over to Chase's house for a delicious dinner of chili and gluten-free cornbread. Then Mama and Nanaw watched a movie -- A Star Is Born -- in the living room, and both of them ended up in tears. Daddy and Chase played hockey downstairs for a long time, and they also played in his room.
