Chase and Nanaw had a busy, fun-filled day on Thursday. Well, the first part wasn't fun-filled. Today was cleaning lady day, and Nanaw spent a couple of hours putting things away to get ready. When that was done, Nanaw packed up snacks and drinks, and she and Chase headed to Powder Valley. They visited all their favorite places. They got to see their friend the turtle in the aquarium; sometimes he's (or she's) buried in the gravel but today his head and shell were out. Chase didn't want to go for a walk on the trail today. After they finished seeing the displays, he was ready to go to the Eyeball Park (otherwise known as Laumeier Sculpture Park to see the eyeball display. They walked up to see the eyeball and then Chase was ready to go. Nanaw asked him if he wanted to go to Suson Park and see the animals and check out the playground for Ninja Warrior obstacles. He was very excited to go do Ninja Warrior things. It was fun seeing the animals, and Nanaw was sorry that this was their first visit to Suson this summer. Nanaw took a picture of Stanley the baby donkey napping and sent it to Mama. They'll go again next week. The playground was full of obstacles for Chase to tackle, and it made him very happy. Chase and Nanaw did school when they got home, using the great book Mama bought at Barnes & Noble. In the evening, Mama told Nanaw that all evening, Chase had been talking to Daddy about putting Ninja obstacles in the back yard. Daddy said there wasn't enough room but Chase was pretty insistent.

Chase and Nanaw had a fun day on Wednesday, going to the two Columbia parks and to the county library. First, they went to the big Columbia park. Chase had a grand time, going from one thing to another, climbing and swinging on the monkey bars and having Nanaw time him on her iPhone. Nanaw swing on the swings for awhile and had fun; so then Chase got on a swing and showed Nanaw that he knows how to swing. After a long time there, Chase said, "Okay, it's time to go to the little library park." So they did. There were three children at the little park and at first Chase didn't play with them, just did his Ninja Warrior activities. Then they asked him to play hide and seek with them, and he did, for one round. Then he and Nanaw left to go to the county library. At the library, they picked up books and a Chicago DVD for Mama. On the way to and from the library, Chase read his daily books: two Richard Scarry books. Uncle Mike came to cut the grass. Daddy took Chase for a haircut and at Nanaw's request, Mama took a picture and sent it to Nanaw.

Chase and Nanaw played downstairs on Tuesday for awhile, after Nanaw put Campho Phenique on 

 

Chase's chigger bites. Both Nanaw and Chase are scratching like crazy. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went to the big park in Columbia. Chase was pleasantly surprised to find that there were a lot more Ninja Warrior activities that he can do in the big park. He thought there was only one but it turned out that there were 10 or 12 -- much to his delight. In the evening, Mama, Chase and Nanaw went to the Magic House, the prize for Chase participating in the St. Louis County Library reading program. First, they went to the McDonald's on Lindbergh by the Magic House for dinner. The Magic House was fairly crowded, which Chase didn't like but which he tolerated. They visited lots of the places they hadn't gone to last Friday: the fish area, the Congress room, the construction area, the magnet area, and the water area. They also visited lots of the areas they went to on Friday: the library, the bank, the hospital, the vet, the Lego area and the fishing pond. It was a fun visit. They're going again on August 25 for Wells Fargo Night, with Daddy coming along.

Only eight more days with Chase until he goes back to school -- second grade! Can you believe it? So Nanaw made a list of things to do for the next eight weekdays. On Monday's list was the Science Center. Chase said they had to go early so they could get a nearby parking spot and not have to park out on the street. He also said he wanted to leave if it was too crowded -- which it wasn't so they got to stay. They visited the water area, the chickens, the agricultural building, the Mars Rover, the planets, the Mars launch room and the garden with all the tree stumps. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw went to the bank where Chase got his regular green sucker. Then they went to the little library park so Chase could do his Ninja Warrior routine. He wanted Nanaw to time him so she opened the timer on her watch and timed it -- it was great fun.

Little House Weekend Adventure: Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4, 2019

Mama and Daddy were going to Auntie LaLa's 50th birthday party on Saturday night, and Nanaw was so excited that she got to take Chase to the little house with her. On the way out there, they stopped at Ozarkland. Chase was happy to see big bins of slat water taffy. He had a great time carefully picking out candy. It was so cute to watch. Then he found bags of Jelly Bellies and picked one of sours. Nanaw bought a big piece of chocolate and pecan fudge. Next, they went to Dollar Tree and bought toys for Chase; then to Walmart for miscellaneous things. Lastly, they went to Sally's for combs for Nanaw. Finally, they got to the little house. Chase was excited that they were going to have pot roast for dinner; at 5 o'clock, he started asking is it time for dinner yet? Chase really liked the pot roast and ate all of his, and so did Nanaw. They went for a long walk on the road by the little house; unfortunately, on Sunday, they discovered that they both got bitten by lots of chiggers. Bad Nanaw forgot to put bug spray on them. On Sunday, Chase played outside, throwing sticks and rocks. On the drive home, they got caught in a huge traffic jam on I44. Chase said he had to go to the bathroom so Nanaw got off the highway and took him to Jack in the Box. Fortunately, the exit made it fast for Nanaw to get back on the highway, and Nanaw was very happy about that. In the evening, Mama invited Nanaw over for hamburgers and corn on the cob. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw went outside and played demo derby with trucks off the deck. Then Chase and Nanaw went downstairs with Daddy and played with remote control cars in the torn-up blue room.

Friday was an exciting day for Chase. He went to the Magic House with Mama, Nanaw, Mama's friend Becky and Becky's daughter Taylor. But first, Mama, Chase and Nanaw went to the Columbia Library to turn in Chase's final reading program. He got another 24 tickets to put in the boxes to win prizes. Once again, his favorite prize was a crayon melter. Chase reminded Nanaw that she had promised to buy one for him if he didn't win it. Nanaw was surprised at his good memory. Next, they went to Auntie LaLa's house for Mama to drop off things for Auntie LaLa's 50th birthday. Uncle Chris gave Nanaw a tour of their house in Webster Groves. Nanaw took a picture of one of their cats, Sadie; Sadie looks exactly like Nanaw's cat Taylor, down to the four white paws. Nanaw hadn't been there in a long time, and lots of things had changed. Next, they wen to the Magic House, where Chase had a super great time. He really likes 12-year-old Taylor, and she likes him. It looked like they both had lots of fun. The visit lasted three hours and covered most of the displays. After the Magic House, Mama, Chase and Nanaw had lunch at McDonald's. Then they stopped at CostCo but only Mama went in because Chase had fallen asleep. Next, they went to the Telegraph Road Library to get books for Mama and play the new Scavenger Hunt. The library has a new Scavenger Hunt each month. At Cahse's house, Grandma Pat had put her Christmas decorations on the kitchen table and was giving them away. Chase called it free shopping. He chose three sets of salt and pepper shakers and a Christmas tree. Mama chose a snowman and a leaded crystal sled for candy.

Chase and Nanaw had another interesting, miscellaneous day on Thursday. Nanaw sent the two pictures below to Mama: the first one is Chase lying on the couch petting a visitor cat (Taylor). The second on is Chase lying in the garden tub, with Nanaw telling Mama that Chase is as long as the tub. The first thing Chase and Nanaw did was to go to Walmart to get an oil change for Nanaw's car. They also did Nanaw's grocery shopping. Chase told Nanaw, "I've been very good so I should get a toy." Nanaw wasn't sure when he'd been very good but she agreed to the toy. Nanaw suggested they try to find a demo derby toy, and Chase thought that was a good idea. Nanaw found a truck that crashes and then ejects its mystery cargo. Nanaw wanted Chase to get it but Chase didn't want it. Then he said Nanaw was forcing him to get the toy, just like she forced him to get the bread at Walmart yesterday. Nanaw told Chase she wasn't forcing Chase to do anything and never would, except when it meant his safety. He finally settled on a box of nine Hot Wheels cars. After Walmart, Nanaw dropped books off at the library, and then they went home. They played with the new Hot Wheels cars for awhile, plus more Hot Wheels from Chase's room. Nanaw got Chase's Sky City track from downstairs. They ran the cars down the ramps, with Chase crashing cars into them when they came off the ramp -- his own version of demo derby. Chase and Nanaw did school for awhile before Nanaw took Chase home.
