When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she told him how much she liked his Hawaiian shirt. She also asked him why Shawn was hitting him. Chase said he asked him to bop him. Then Brady wanted Chase to go to the park, and Nanaw said yes. They stayed until 3:55. Chase and Brady played baseball while Nanaw talked to Debbie. Debbie says the new principal, Mr. Gregson, is a really good guy. He was a principal at Gibault and then at a grade school in Maryville. Mama said they live on Nevada in the brown house next to the cool people. Nanaw remembers trick or treating there. Chase and Nanaw left the park a little early because Brady was hitting Chase with a plastic baseball bat. In the evening, Mama told Nanaw that Chase left five of his new markers out on his desk and someone took them. Mama said she told him to put them away so he was going to have to buy new ones himself. Nanaw feels bad for him. He’s such a sweet boy, and Nanaw loves him so much.

Chase was so excited when he came out of school. He was waving his science test, and he showed Nanaw that he got 100% on the test. He didn’t know how he did on the social studies test. Mama, Daddy and Nanaw told Chase how proud they were of him for doing so well. Chase said that the painful studying paid off. Daddy said Chase had a baseball game tonight, and it was going to be cold so Chase should wear extra clothes. Nanaw told Mama to take a blanket to keep warm. Nanaw isn’t going because it will be too cold for her. On the way to Nanaw’s house, Chase and Nanaw went to the library to pick up books on tape. At Nanaw’s house, they played Chase’s new app — Akinator. It was so much fun. It got everything right except for the Cardinals new pitcher KK. Nanaw watched Chase's baseball game on the Game Changer app to see how it was going. In the first inning, Chase walked. Then the next time he was at bat, he struck out. Mama texted that he was really upset to strike out. Then he got to pitch, which Nanaw is sure made him happy because he really wanted to pitch. He hit a batter with the ball, and Mama said things aren't going well.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked him if he brought his science and social studies study papers home with him for the two tests tomorrow, and he said yes. He said he didn’t have to do his AR reading because he had too many other assignments. It turns out that Mama told Chase he was supposed to bring his science book home also but he didn’t. At Nanaw’s house, they went downstairs to the school room and studied science and social studies. Chase knew all the answers and Nanaw was very proud. Then they went upstairs so Chase could do his math page — he got all the answers right. He also did his cursive practice and he did fairly well Nanaw had him home at five because he had baseball practice. Nanaw came back to Chase’s house to go to KFC in Waterloo for chicken for Daddy’s birthday dinner. After dinner, Mama and Nanaw had Chase go through his study materials again. Then Daddy, Chase and Nanaw had ice cream.

Mama sent Nanaw a message all the ICS parents received from the school secretary. It said: Dear Parents: Just in case your child (children) come home telling you we had some excitement today, we did. Due to an unusually strong gas smell today, the Columbia Fire Department came to make sure we were safe. We followed all safety procedures and evacuated to the church. The students and the faculty said the rosary until it was safe to come back into the building. This was good practice, and everyone did a great job and followed all the rules. Practicing this sure helps in time of need. Nanaw asked Chase about it when she picked him up, and he said it was scary. Once again, he wanted to go to Will's house or have Will come to Nanaw's but Nanaw said they had to have the moms involved. They stopped at Chase's house on their way to Nanaw's, and at first, Chase didn't want to bring any guys but then changed his mind and brought Tee Tee, Creeper, Shy Guy, White Fox, Bag Jack and a few others. Chase told Mama and Daddy that he was interested in playing the clarinet. He said his backup was the flute. Then he said he really wanted to play the drums, and Daddy told him he should pick what he really wants. At Nanaw's house, Chase installed some baseball apps on her tablet and played with her phone. Nanaw brought in apple slices, and he ate lots of them.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she remembered to ask him if he brought his AR book and any other homework home with him. He said yes, but then looked in his backpack to make sure the AR book was in there. Chase asked if they could go to the park, and Nanaw said yes. But when they got to the park, Brady wasn't there. So Chase said they should leave. But then he wanted to go back because he saw a little boy from ICS. But then he wanted to go home again so they did. At Nanaw's house, Chase played with Nanaw's phone and had her order a baseball game app for him. They sat on the sofa with the guys and watched Curious George. At Chase's house, Nanaw and Chase played a little catch with a soft. Squishy ball. Daddy had gone Mother's Day shopping so Mama and Chase were going to go outside to play baseball. In the evening, Mama sent Nanaw a picture of Chase in the new sunglasses Daddy bought for Chase -- he looked really cool and like a real baseball player.

Chase had baseball practice on Sunday afternoon, and he said it was good. Nanaw went over to Chase's house around five p.m. because Mama invited Nanaw for dinner. The first thing Chase said to Nanaw when she got there was that they couldn't play baseball on his bed with the guys because Mama had just made Chase's bed. Chase and Nanaw went into his room to examine his bed, and it looked excellent. Daddy grilled chicken wings, and Mama fixed delicious corn on the cob. Chase liked the corn so much he wanted more. Mama said there wasn't any more so Daddy gave Chase the rest of his. Good Daddy! After dinner, Mama and Nanaw had Chase review his spelling words and review the state capitals for the week. Then, Chase, Mama and Nanaw played table top baseball. It didn't go too well because Mama was not happy with Chase's interpretations of the rules. They played several innings but finally stopped. Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play balloon baseball and had lots of fun. Chase is going to all-day (9:30 to 3:30) STEM camp in Waterloo this summer -- June 16 through June 20. He's also going to a half day Cardinals baseball camp on July 20. Nanaw will miss him when he goes to both camps.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went to the grocery store. She told Nanaw all about last night's birthday party for Hunter and Mason. Mason invited a girl who is a friend of his, plus two of his teachers from the Columbia school. The boys went fishing and had a great time. That's the first picture below. They had burgers and hot dogs to eat, and played on a humongous bounce house. Mama played with Emma and had someone take a picture of the two of them. That's the second picture below. At Nanaw's house, Chase and Nanaw took his guys and Nanaw's guys into Chase's room. Chase played with Nanaw's phone, and Nanaw played with her iPad. When Mama came to pick up Chase, she asked how Nanaw's way of getting Chase to listen was working. (Nanaw emailed her about it last night, excerpting some of what she wrote on Days of Chase.) Nanaw told Mama that it's working wonderfully. Nanaw hopes Mama will try it. Mama said Daddy and Chase were going to play out outside when Chase got home. Next Saturday morning, Nanaw gets to take Chase with her to the little house to pick up hang tags. Mama invited Nanaw over for a grilled wings dinner on Sunday night. Mama says Chase doesn't like wings but she's going to work on that.
