When Nanaw took Chase to school, several of the girls in his class told Nanaw they saw her and Chase at the baseball game last night. The girls were on the other team, and they claimed that they won the baseball game. Nanaw is not sure about that. One of the other girls in the class gave Nanaw a little tin containing Thinking Putty for Chase. She said he could keep it and not have to give it back. Nanaw told Mama about it, and Mama says it's to keep you from getting distracted when you're doing math. We'll see how that works. Chase got a certificate of achievement for being a runner up in the young authors' program, for participating as an angel in the Christmas play and for playing soccer. He missed one of the words (pointy) on last week's spelling test so he got a G+ instead of his usual O. On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw stopped at Chase's house to let the dogs out, and Nanaw took a picture of them. There are tornado and windstorm and thunderstorm warnings for tonight, and it rained during the night so Chase's baseball game has been cancelled, as has the Cardinals game. Mama is going out to dinner with Aunt Becca but she promises to hurry home so she's not caught in the storms.

Monday, May 20, 2019

Monday morning, before school, Chase and Nanaw were talking and he said he would miss school. Then he said, "But I'll have fun with you in the summer." Of course, that brought tears to Nanaw's eyes. When Nanaw picked Chase up, she looked in his backpack for his spelling test but he still hasn't brought it home, and he says he doesn't know what he got. And still no flier for Camp Invention in Waterloo. Mama is probably not going to send Chase. She says it costs $250 or $300 and he's already going to Magic House camp. And besides, according to Mama, Chase and Nanaw will be doing lots of STEM things this summer. After school, when Chase said he was hungry, I asked him if he wanted a cheese rollup. He wouldn't eat the one Nanaw made last week, so she had Mama get the correct ingredients this weekend. She called Mama for directions, and when Chase saw the cheese rollup, he looked inside at the cheese and said, "That's what I'm talking about." Then when he tasted it, he said, "That's good." He had a total of three cheese rollups, a package of Thomas Treats, mint chocolate chip ice cream and a glass of milk -- so he certainly had enough to eat. He had his first baseball game tonight. He got a couple of good hits and got a player out at first base. He also got to be the catcher, wearing all the paraphernalia, for one inning. Mama got some good pictures of him and also a selfie of her and Emma.

Mama had a "watch" party on Sunday afternoon to watch the blues game with Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky and cousin Natalie. They were all very excited when the blues won, 4 to 0. Nanaw came to visit when she got home from the little house. Nanaw ate a hamburger and salad, both very good. For awhile, she played hockey in the back yard with Chase and Uncle Mike. Then she played with just Chase. Then she convinced Chase to go for a walk in the field behind the house. They ended the walk when they came to a big mud puddle, and Nanaw pretended it was a huge river they couldn't cross. Daddy took Grandma Pat back to Wentzville to aunt Patty's because she has some doctors' appointments this coming week. Chase had a Dreamsicle, which he really liked. Mama is having another "watch" party with Uncle Mike next Saturday for a Cardinals game.

Nanaw went to visit Chase on Saturday morning. When she got there, Mama was walking the dogs and Chase was in the living room with Daddy and Grandma Pat. Chase had on shark pajamas and looked really cute. He had his hockey goal horn app open on his tablet and was testing Daddy on the goal horns. It was very funny and very cute. Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to play hockey. Chase decided that his "amamals" had to come down and play hockey also, So Chase and Nanaw made several trips up and down the steps carrying Chase’s stuffed "amamals." They played for awhile, and then Nanaw had to leave to go to the little house. She had planned to take the JB Bridge but traffic was backed up to Columbia so she took 255 to 40 – but accidentally got back on 255 and had to turn around. In the evening, Daddy went to cousin Kyle’s graduation. Mama and Chase had a date at the Edge in Belleville, a fun-o-rama thing. They played lots of games and rode bumper cars and ate dinner and had a wonderful time. Mama sent fun pictures to Nanaw.

This morning at school, one of the girls in Chase's class gave him a choice of a little pink metal container or a green one. (Nanaw doesn't know what they were -- maybe mints?) But Chase seemed to be embarrassed by the whole thing. He grabbed his folder and water bottle from Nanaw and ran into the classroom. So cute! After school, Chase helped Nanaw water the plants and bushes in the front yard and had a lot of fun doing it. He was very excited to see red strawberries on the strawberry plants that neighbor Dan planted in Nanaw's front yard. Nanaw will have to ask Dan if Chase can pick them or eat them. Chase also played wit his golf clubs out in the front yard, Nanaw wanted him to ride his Big Wheels but he said he would do it another time. Nanaw was happy that she got bonus time with Chase on Friday night, and Chase was happy about the bonus time also. He gave Nanaw an unsolicited, "I love you, Nanaw," and htat was super special. Mama was having dinner with her friend Becky, and Daddy had to work until six. So Nanaw fixed dinner for Chase, and he played on the laptop. When Daddy came to pick Chase up, he was out of the house in a flash -- not his usual dawdling self.

Thursday, May 16, 2019

Today was Nanaw's last day volunteering in Chase's classroom. The school had its last mass in the school building and it lasted an hour and a half so Nanaw had less time She asked the teacher if she could work with all the boys and girls instead of two groups, so that's what they did. It got a little loud and rowdy but Chase was quiet and well-behaved so Nanaw was happy about that. The teacher gave Nanaw a hug and that was really nice. Nanaw is going to miss the boys and girls. After school, Chase and Nanaw played the Hedgehog game on Roblox. They also tried to make a paper airplane with the paper airplane kit Mama found in Chase's closet. It didn't turn out right so they'll have to try again. Then Chase played hockey and had dinner. Nanaw was supposed to practice Chase's spelling words with him but she forgot. So hopefully Mama will have time to practice with him. It's his last spelling test of the year. He's a very good speller and has regularly gotten the highest grade possible on the Friday spelling tests. Mama came to pick Chase up about 6:30 so Nanaw got bonus time with her buddy.

Mama worked from home on Wednesday so Nanaw went to pick Chase up. After she took Chase to school, Nanaw decided to make a trip to Missouri but not the Poplar Street Bridge way. She took 255 to 40 and went that way. It was much better; she didn't get stuck in traffic. Nanaw went to the Manchester Schnuck's for cottage cheese, then to the gas station, then to the library and finally to the cemetery. It was a very productive trip. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he was carrying a beautiful container of marigolds. Nanaw thought they were for Mama but Chase said, no, they were for her because of her volunteering with the class. That made Nanaw so happy. Chase also had a card for her in his backpack, signed by all the boys and girls in Chase's class. Nanaw put the flowers outside with her other flowers. Chase and Brady were so excited about having their first baseball game of the season but the game was cancelled because the field was too wet from the rainstorm last night.
