When Nanaw took Chase to school on Tuesday, they saw a baby squirrel outside the church -- very cute. In class, Mrs. Hermann asked Nanaw if Chase could have a different kind of water bottle because he keeps spilling his. (Mama says he doesn't put the lid on tight enough and then if the bottle falls over, water spills.) When Nanaw picked Chase up after school, they saw two baby squirrels by the church. A crowd of boys and girls was watching them, and Nanaw took a picture. Chase got his book order, along with a darling raccoon, and he was very excited about it. When they got home, Nanaw read the books to Chase while he was sitting at he kitchen counter playing baseball with Nanaw's zoo rocks and a marble. Next, they went downstairs to play school. Nanaw was the flag holder, and Chase said the pledge of allegiance -- it was very cute of the little fellow.

When Nanaw took Chase to school on Monday morning, it was cute to see how happy and smiley he was to go to school and see his friends -- big grins. Nanaw went shopping at Walmart while Chase was at school and bought a cute little baby doll for Emma's birthday party on Sunday. Nanaw saw Emmy at school waiting for her brother with her Grandma and Nanaw got to hold her and take a picture of her. When Nanaw picked him up from school, he had his jacket on, zipped up, with the hood on his head, despite the fact that it was really hot outside. And he refused to take it off until he got to the car. On the way home, Chase tested Nanaw on the sight words by sounding them out and having Nanaw identify what he was sounding out -- it was really funny. When they got home, Chase played in his room for awhile, then they did art in the kitchen. Chase and Nanaw cut apples out of paper, then they cut worms and pasted them on the apples. Evidently, that's what Chase did in school on Monday. Next, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs to the school room to play school. Chase said he was the flag holder at school today and he wanted to be flag holder at pretend school so he did, while he and Nanaw said the pledge of allegiance. When Nanaw took Chase home, he pretended that Nanaw's car was the school bus, and he told Nanaw not to get out -- but she did.

Chase slept till 9 a.m. on Sunday morning -- the little fellow definitely was tired. When he got up, he wanted to go outside and play in his pajamas -- he thought that would be a fun thing to do so Nanaw said he could. He played for awhile and then came in to watch one of the baseball movies Nanaw checked out for him at the library. The movie was Rookie of the Year, and Chase watched the whole thing and seemed to enjoy it. Chase and Nanaw left the little house about 10:45 so Chase could get home by noon but they didn't quite make it. They made a stop at McDonald's in Washington to get a dipped cone for Chase and a pumpkin spice latte for Nanaw. Chase was fascinated with the cone -- first the McDonald's worker swirled ice cream in the cone, then dipped it in a pan of chocolate. Chase told Nanaw that the chocolate froze on the ice cream -- smart little boy. In the evening, Nanaw came over for a rib and salad dinner. After dinner, Mama did Chase's homework with him while Nanaw watched. Then Mama, Daddy, Nanaw and Chase went outside to play baseball, Chase's favorite thing to do. In Chase's Happy Meal on Saturday, he got a book -- Nanaw really likes that idea.

On Saturday morning, Chase, Daddy, Mama and Nanaw went to Collinsville for Chase's soccer games. The field and clubhouse were really nice. Chase played really well and scored three goals. In the afternoon, Chase and Nanaw headed out to the little house. First, they went to the bounce house place. Chase had a super wonderful time. He loved both bounce houses, but said that his favorites were the big stock tanks full of corn and the super high, super big slide. He also played Ninja Warrior and airplane pilot. He went to visit the goats but he and Nanaw didn't go in the maze because Nanaw was afraid of getting lost in the maze again. Chase had a great time at the little house, playing outside and playing inside with his cars. They had McDonald's for dinner, and Chase watched the Letter Factory DVD. Chase was tired from such a busy day and was sound asleep, after story time, at 9:30.

When Nanaw took Chase to school, she picked up his jacket and the water bottle he forgot yesterday. She reminded him to bring his jacket and water bottle home with him at the end of the day (and he did!). On the drive home from school, Chase started to fall asleep again but woke up when they got home. He decided to go in his room and watch Daniel Tiger on TV. For the first time that Nanaw could remember, he said please when asking for something without being prompted (he said, "Please may I have a popsicle?") When Nanaw took Chase home, they went out to dinner with Mama and Daddy. They went to Bully's, which has delicious barbecue. Chase brought marbles from Nanaw's house, plus a stick bot figure, a Tsum Tsum, and several long plastic sticks. The idea was to stage a baseball game on the dinner table, and that's exactly what Chase did. It was very funny and very cute. Chase had grilled cheese and mac n cheese; Daddy had a pork steak and hush puppies; Mama had a bacon burger; and Nanaw had yummy wonderful ribs and slaw. It was a super delicious dinner and a fun time. On the way home from dinner, Nanaw drove by Daddy's and Chase's church to see the construction of Chase's new school and took pictures. The school is scheduled to be completed in January 2019.

Before Nanaw and Chase left for school on Thursday morning, Nanaw asked Chase to read his sight words and he did so, instantly and perfectly. When they got to school, Nanaw took Chase's blue jacket out of his locker to take home so he wouldn't have two jackets at school. She reminded Chase to bring his Batman jacket home with him. (Update: He forgot his Batman jacket and his water bottle.) Chase likes the new Smart Board sign-in in his class. All the students have an apple on the screen with their names on the apples. You touch the apple to indicate that you're there and the apple disappears -- very cute. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the library to drop off and pick up books and movies. Chase fell asleep in the car again but woke up when they got home. He watched TV for a little while before it was time to go home. When they got there, Chase played a game with Mama. Then he told Mama and Daddy he wanted ice cream that night, and Mama and Daddy were very excited about that idea because they love ice cream. Once again, Nanaw forgot to take pictures of Chase; but she took pictures of Sam and Tyler when she went to Chase's house in the afternoon.

Wednesday, September 6, 2017
When Nanaw picked Chase up on Wednesday morning, he and Mama told Nanaw about their adventure the night before. Daddy and Chase built an obstacle course in the back yard, and then Chase and Daddy played Ninja Warrior. (It's a good thing that Nanaw watched a little of the Ninja Warrior TV show Monday night or she wouldn't have known what they were talking about.) So Chase and Nanaw decided they would make an obstacle course in Nanaw's front yard when Chase got home from school. But when Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said his tummy hurt and he wanted to lie down when they got home. Then he fell asleep in the car on the way home. When they got home, Chase went to his room and laid down on his futon and fell asleep. So there was no playing with Nanaw and no obstacle course -- maybe on Thursday. Nanaw forgot to take any pictures of Chase so she included a previous one of Chase sleeping in the car, wearing his uniform. In the evening, Nanaw went to the library headquarters to see Tess Gerritsen. She wanted Mama to go along but Daddy was golfing so Mama stayed with Chase. Mama and Nanaw went to see Tess five years ago exactly, September 6, 2012, at the Schafly branch of the St. Louis Public Library -- what a coincidence.
