Mama had the day off on Monday so she took Chase to school. It's a two banana week, actually. Chase and Mama are off on Wednesday for Veterans Day. Then Mama is off again on Friday. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she got a text from Brady's grandma Debbie asking if Chase was going to the little library park. Nanaw texted back that she was sure Chase would want to go so they'd see them there. Brady brought two tennis rackets and a tennis ball so he and Chase could play tennis. At first, they played in the grass and on the parking lot because someone else was playing on the tennis court. When those people left, Brady and Chase went to play on the tennis court. Debbie and Nanaw went over to watch them. Chase seemed to have a really good time playing. Whenever the boys hit the ball over the fence, Debbie went to fetch it for them. At 4 p.m, Nanaw said it was time to go home so they did. Chase went without too much of a fuss. At Nanaw's house. Chase played on the computer. In the evening, he studied for his science test on plants.

Rockbridge: Friday, November 6 to Sunday November 8, 2020

On Friday morning, Mama, Daddy, Chase, Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky and Nanaw left for their annual adventure at Rockbridge. Nanaw had a few hiccups. First, she had forgotten to get hairspray at the grocery store so Mama and Nanaw went to Walgreen's to get it. The first picture below is Chase wearing the Zero hat Mama bought for him at Walgreen's. Then, after they left for Rockbridge, Nanaw remembered that she may have forgotten the bag with her medications and vitamins in it back at the house. So Daddy turned around and went back to Nanaw's house. Mama went inside and found the bag in the kitchen. So all was well but Nanaw felt bad for causing the delay. All in all, they had a wonderful time  To their surprise, when they got to their rooms, they discovered that the rooms now have TVs with cable and a DVD player. They also have a coffee maker and a hair dryer. Chase went fishing with Daddy three times and had lots of fun. Unfortunately, Chase didn't catch any fish although he did get a couple of bites. Daddy caught six fish; Aunt Becky caught nine; Uncle Mike caught three. Mama went fishing for the first time in a long while, waders and all, but she didn't catch any fish. The food was great, as always. Except for the cinnamon rolls -- they no longer cook them to Nanaw's desired crispness. Amazingly enough, Chase tried batter-fried trout and liked it. He also tried Daddy's over-easy eggs. He's a very adventurous little fellow. He played a game of checkers with Mama but lost. Mama bought him a stuffed llama and another stuffed baby fish. Nanaw bought him a stuffed hedgehog named Howie who's going to live at Nanaw's house. Mama bought Nanaw a stuffed turkey. Mama and Nanaw took lots of walks, with and without the dogs. Nanaw brought lots of disaster movies. Mama watched the one on Friday night all the way through. Uncle Mike watched the one on Saturday night. Nanaw spent a lot of time watching CNN to find out about the presidential election. They only had Little Deb as their waitress for Friday lunch and Sunday breakfast. They really like her and wish they'd had her more. Nanaw made reservations for next year -- November 5 to November 7. When they got home, Aunt Becky told them that her school, Guadeloupe was going to be closed for a week because of Covid. Aunt Becky doesn't think she was exposed but we'll have to wait and see.

On Thursday morning, Nanaw helped Chase study for social studies quiz once again. Mama said he did a lot of good work on his homework last night. The little fellow had four tests today. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked him about his tests. He reported that he got 9 out of 10 on his social studies quiz. He said there was also a writing part but he didn't know how he did. He said he thought he got all his spelling words correct. He didn't know how he did on the reading test because it wasn't online, and Ms. Kennedy would have to grade it. He said he didn't have time to finish his subtraction test so he would finish it on Monday. Chase and Nanaw went to the library to pick up more disaster movies for Rockbridge. Chase and Nanaw played a little "tennis" when they got home; "tennis" being badminton rackets and a wiffle ball. Chase played on the computer, and Nanaw ordered $20 worth of Robux for him: $10 from Nanaw for Halloween and $10 from Mama.

Nanaw made sure to remind Chase several times to bring his heavy reading book home from school so he could study tonight for tomorrow's reading test. Because of Chase being off school Friday, he's taking his tests tomorrow - reading, spelling and math. Then he said he has a social studies quiz tomorrow also. The social studies quiz is about government -- federal, state and local. Chase has to learn who leads the government, who does legislating and the courts. He brought home a sheet of paper with all the information on it, and Mama is going to help him study it. The little fellow has a lot of studying to do tonight. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to Dollar Tree to get more Dum Dums for Chase. He also got another boomerang baseball, a football and a funny looking ball. At Nanaw's house, Chase played on the computer, while eating Dum Dums. Nanaw had to take Chase home early because he had baseball practice at 5 p.m. Mama wasn't there because she had gone to Schnuck's and Dollar Tree to get things for the Rockbridge trip. Nanaw helped Chase change clothes, then they went out to the garage to get Chase's baseball gloves. Mama came home while they were there.

Mama brought Chase to Nanaw's house early Tuesday morning, at 6:30 so that she and Daddy could go vote. She said they didn't have to wait in line because there weren't many people at the poll. Daddy said Nanaw could have his I Vote sticker. Nanaw voted by mail so she didn't get a sticker. Chase had pumpkin pie in a bag for breakfast and didn't eat his cheese stick and banana. He really likes pumpkin pie in a bag. Chase noticed that Nanaw forgot to do his water bottle so they turned around and went back home so they could get the water bottle. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she didn't see his AR book and asked him if he remembered it. He turned around and showed Nanaw that the book was in pocket of his backpack. At home, Chase wanted to play outside for awhile. So Nanaw put Sidney in the cat stroller, and they took Sidney for a walk. Chase pushed the stroller for awhile, running while he pushed it on the sidewalk. After the walk, they played baseball for a little while. Then Chase went into the house and played on the computer. He had some Dum Dum suckers; he wants to go to Dollar Tree tomorrow after school to get more Dum Dums because he only has two left. He also had the last of the pumpkin pie in a bag. The second picture below shows where Chase's lost glove showed up in Nanaw's car.

It was cold outside on Monday morning so Chase wore his heavy winter coat that Mama bought him last year. It's still sort of big on him; he'll probably be able to wear it again next year. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he came running out to meet her holding his spelling paper and his AR reading book. He missed two spelling words so he has to write all the spelling words three times and take the spelling test again on Thursday. Because he'll be off from school on Friday for Rockbridge, he'll have three tests on Thursday instead of Friday: spelling, reading and math (subtraction). Chase told Nanaw that two of his classmates are quarantining and doing school through Zoom because they may have been exposed to Covid. It was interesting the way he told Nanaw. He said, very seriously, "I have something to tell you." Mama already knew about it because she got an email from the school. Chase played with the computer after school. Nanaw told him that she was going to ask Mama if it would be all right to give him $10 worth of Robux for a Halloween present; Nanaw forgot to give him a present. Nanaw asked Mama, and she said yes. Nanaw took Chase home a few minutes early because he wanted to play outside but Daddy said it would get dark in a few minutes. So they went downstairs to play instead.

Daylight Saving time ended, and Nanaw had lots and lots of clocks to change the time on. Uncle Mike went out to the little house in the morning to winterize it. Nanaw went out there in the afternoon to pick up some jeans. She'll miss the little house until she can go out there again in the spring. She'll probably go out there a few times during the winter to visit and check on things. When she got home, she went over to Chase's house to visit. Mama and Chase were working on dinner. They were making fried mozzarella sticks and little Smokies in crescent rolls. Chase was helping roll the mozzarella sticks in bread crumbs. Nanaw asked if she could stay for dinner, and Mama said yes, of course. Before dinner, Chase and Nanaw went to Chase's room and played football with his stuffed animals. They each chose 11 players for their team. It was a lot of fun. Chase is very creative in the games he makes up. At dinner, the fried mozzarella sticks and little Smokies were good. After dinner, Mama and Chase went downstairs to play computer games, and Nanaw went with them to watch. They were playing classic Atari games, like Chopper Command. The graphics were really old-fashioned; the games were from the 80s. Nanaw remembers when Mama and Uncle Mike played games on the TRS-80. Nanaw had to go home at 7:15 because she had to publish the church website and send out an email.
