Friday was a major adventure for Chase and Nanaw, too -- it was Chase's Valentine's party at pre-school. And Nanaw got to help with the party. There were about 10 parents and grandparents there to help with the party. The principal, Mr. Kish, came in to visit and made a joke about how many adults are needed to have a pre-school Valentine's party. The party was wonderful, and everyone had fun. The first job for the parents was peeling the backing off clear contact paper so the boys and girls could make heart-shaped sun-catchers. It was funny trying to peel the paper and watching everyone have the same problem. Each child needed two sheets of clear contact paper, and eventually the parents achieved their goal. Brady's mom was there, along with Sienna's mom, Will's grandparents and other moms that Nanaw didn't know. The children had pink iced cookies, cuties and apple juice for their treat. The table was set with treats waiting for when the children returned from gym. They sat down and began to enjoy their treats. Nanaw was impressed by how well-behaved they were -- nobody got up and ran around the room. After treats, they made their sun-catchers. Then it was time for a musical hearts game where they walked around a circle of hearts. When the music stopped, Sienna's mom (she's the head room mother) would read one of the hearts and the children had to do what it said. (For example, clap your hands, rub your head, hop on one foot, hop like a bunny, etc. Next, the children played a child's version of Bingo, using the Valentine conversation hearts as markers. It was a really cute game, with letters, numbers, shapes and pictures on the cards. Lastly, the children walked around the row of paper bags they'd decorated and put a Valentine in each bag. Chase insisted on putting one in his own bag, and Nanaw had to go back and retrieve it so that he had enough Valentines to give to everyone. When the party was over, the teachers told the boys and girls to get their coats and backpacks. They were supposed to put their "important papers" in their folders and put them in their backpacks. They were also supposed to put their Valentines and sun-catchers in the backpack. Once again, Nanaw was impressed by how well-behaved they were and how they did what they were told. All in all, it was a perfect party, and Nanaw was so happy she could be there to help out. In the evening, Mama, Daddy, Chase and Nanaw went to Merz on Main (the restaurant owned by Chase's teacher's parents) for dinner. But things didn't go well because Chase got sick to his stomach, and they had to pack up their dinners and go home.
