Thursday, February 29, 2024

Daddy took Chase to school on Thursday morning instead of Nanaw. Once again, Chase said he didn't feel well and didn't think he could go to school but Mama and Daddy said he was going. He told Mama that he took his math and religion tests today; yesterday his teacher asked if he wanted to wait to take the tests until Thursday, and he said yes. Mama picked Chase up from school at about 1 p.m. for his doctor's appointment with the gastroenterologist. Her office is on Tesson Ferry Road, not too far from his pediatrician's office. This was a follow-up visit where they talked about the results of Chase's tests. It turns out that the doctor doesn't know what's causing Chase's problems. She's taken him off milk and milk products (cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) She says he can have Lactaid milk and hard cheese but not soft cheese, plus lactose-free ice cream. He's also taking several medicines; one reduces the acid in his stomach. They have another follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks. Chase didn’t feel well enough to go for his hitting lesson so Nanaw came over to visit about 5 p.m. She helped Chase with his homework. He had a page of math problems, two English worksheets, dealing with adjectives again, and the rest of his vocab assignment. Because he can't have cheese and yogurt for breakfast, he's going to have toast and cereal at Nanaw's house. Nanaw will have to bring her toaster oven upstairs. The first picture is Chase serving for mass; the principal took the picture and sent it to Mama. Instead of Nanaw taking a picture of Chase for Days of Chase, Chase took the selfie below.

Wednesday, February 28, 2024

Mama took Chase to school on Wednesday morning to make sure that he went to school. He had started saying he didn't feel well and didn't think he should go to school. But Mama said he'd missed too much school this year and that he had to go. Nanaw missed seeing Chase in the morning but she understood that Mama could be tougher than Nanaw with him. When Mama picked Chase up from school, she talked with one of the other grandmas in Chase's room, and she said her grandson had missed three days this week so far. Nanaw was glad to see Chase but he sort of dragged himself along. He said he couldn't go to baseball practice because he didn't feel well. After school, he worked on his vocab packet that was due Thursday. He also did an English worksheet about demonstrative and interrogative adjectives, a subject they've been working on for the past couple of days. He did part of his vocab assignment that's due in AR on Friday. He says he'll finish it on Thursday.

Tuesday, February 27, 2024

Chase was sick again on Tuesday morning. He said he had severe pain in his stomach; at one point he said the pain was excruciating. Mama really wanted Chase to go to school, and she told Nanaw to take him. But when Nanaw got to the drop-off place, Chase wouldn't get out of the car so Nanaw left and went home. Mama wanted Nanaw to take Chase to the Columbia urgent care clinic. But when they got there, the urgent care clinic had closed in December 2023. Mama had forgotten that it closed. So then Mama asked Nanaw to take Chase to the urgent care clinic on Telegraph Road. When they got there, Nanaw was told that they had to get on the waitlist and then it would be several hours before a doctor would be with them. Nanaw asked Mama what they should do, and at first, she said they should get on the list and then find out if they could go home and come back when it was their turn. Then she said that instead, Nanaw should call Chase's doctor's office and see if they could get him in. So that's what they did; they had an appointment for 3:10 p.m. Mama texted Nanaw to let her know Chase's homework was in the black box outside the front door of the school. Nanaw and Chase picked up the homework and then they went to Chase's house, and he worked on his homework. He got everything done except his science. At the doctor's appointment, Nanaw really liked the doctor, and the doctor came up with some good ideas for Chase. She thinks he might have irritable bowel syndrome. She put her suggestions in a document for the gastroenterologist appointment on Thursday. The picture below is Chase lying on the exam table playing with the car phone. The day ended well with Chase feeling like his healthy self.

Monday, February 26, 2024

On Monday morning, Chase had one of his throwing-up episodes so he stayed home from school. Nanaw limited him to two hours of device time so that he didn't spend the whole day playing on his phone or on the computer. He took his first hour in the morning. Then he played in his room with the Playmobil, while watching hockey games on his TV. Nanaw noticed that he did the cutest thing with the fan grandstand that belongs to the Hot Wheels racetrack that's downstairs. For lunch, Chase had the pot roast he was supposed to have for dinner before baseball and hockey practice. Obviously, there was no practice for Chase last night. Chase did his second hour of device time in the afternoon. Nanaw went up to Chase's school to get his homework assignments. It's really good what the teachers do when students are out of school for being sick. They put together a form with all their homework assignments; then they gather all the necessary books and papers and put the whole thing in a black box outside the front door of the school. It's really a great idea and helps the students not get too far behind. Chase got most of his homework done, except for the science homework assignment and studying for Tuesday's religion test.

Sunday, February 25, 2024

Chase didn't feel well on Sunday morning and threw up one time. He texted Daddy about it, and Daddy said he should stay home from church. Mama texted that she had been planning to have pot roast for dinner. She asked Nanaw to find out if Chase thought he'd be able to eat pot roast for dinner, and he said yes. Mama said Chase didn't do much on Sunday, he just sort of sat around. He even took a nap. Nanaw went over to Chase's house for dinner. He told Mama and Nanaw that he had history homework to do that he'd forgotten about. Nanaw went through Chase's accordion folder to remove all the papers that had been graded. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw sat at the kitchen table and did his history homework. After the homework was finished, Chase and Nanaw went to Chase's room to work on clearing out Chase's accordion folder, which was stuffed with papers. Chase divided the papers into ones for Nanaw to take home and keep and ones to throw away. Nanaw came up with a couple of new things for them to do about studying. From now on, every day, Chase is going to give Nanaw his graded papers, and they'll go through them and figure out the answers to the questions he missed. Also, each day, he would bring home the book (s) they read in class and go over what they read in class that day. Plus, he would bring home his math and math book so Nanaw could make sure she knows how to do his math. The last picture below is a very unusual one of Mama and Brady's mom from the dinner auction. An alien seems to be on Mama.

Saturday, February 24, 2024

Chase was supposed to have a hockey game in a tournament Saturday morning but he still didn't feel well with his cough, stomach ache and headache so Mama and Daddy decided he should stay home from the game. He and Daddy watched the game on LiveBarn and got to see the brawl between the players. Nanaw is glad Chase wasn't there. So Mama let Nanaw know that Chase would be able to have the sleepover over with her. At 4:30, Nanaw went over to Chase's house to pick him up. She looked at Mama's dress for the dinner auction and liked it. Daddy said Chase could only have an hour and a half of device time so he decided to have that before dinner. When it was time to go get dinner, Chase decided to stay home because of his stomach. So Nanaw went by herself to Taco Bell to get her CrunchWrap Supreme and to Sonic to get Chase's dinner. Unfortunately, Sonic's fryers weren't working and the only thing they were selling were hamburgers and drinks. So Nanaw got a plain cheeseburger and a Sonic Blast for Chase. He was disappointed but he said the hamburger was pretty good, and he loved the Sonic Blast. After dinner, Chase brought his hockey Playmobil in the living room, and they watched the movie Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. The movie is from one of the books Chase read in class. The last picture below is one that Mama sent of her, the principal and Brady's mom at the dinner auction. It had a murder mystery theme, which sounded fun. The band teacher was the murder victim.

Friday, February 23, 2024

On Friday morning at Nanaw's house, Mama and Nanaw reminded Chase to go to the Lost and Found to look for his blue hoodie. After school, he reported that it wasn't there. This is quite the mystery, because it's not at Nanaw's house,  not in Nanaw's car, not in Daddy's truck, so where is it? He had a vocab test and a DLR test today but Nanaw forgot to ask how he thought he did. In the morning, Chase had a cough, and Nanaw gave him some of the cherry Luden's cough drops that he likes and that he says taste like candy. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he had a headache so Nanaw gave him Tylenol for the headache. As Mama requested, Nanaw had Chase do his 20 minutes of AR reading. He's reading another Gordon Korman book; this one is named War Stories. Chase says it's really good and that Nanaw should read it. So Nanaw put the book on request at the County Library, and the audiobook on request at the Columbia Library. When Chase got home, Chase told Mama and Daddy that in addition to the cough and the headache, his stomach didn't feel good. Daddy talked to Chase and said he had to tough it out and go to baseball and hockey practice because he had a baseball tournament in a few weekends, and tomorrow is the hockey playoffs. Chase said he would try.

Thursday, February 22, 2024

Daddy brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Thursday morning because Mama's car was at Dobb's. Chase and Nanaw went over his science study guide again for today's test. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, he said he thought he did well on the test; he said he also did the bonus questions so that should help. At Nanaw's house, Chase was in a grumpy mood, and he and Nanaw fussed at each other for a few minutes but eventually, it was all right. They studied for the vocabulary test in two ways. First, Nanaw gave Chase the definition. and Chase gave her the word. That's the easy way. Then, Nanaw gave Chase the word, and he gave her the definition. Mama wasn't going to be home in the evening and couldn't study with Chase. So Nanaw asked him to read over the words again. They may go over them again in the morning. Mama told Nanaw that Chase has a hockey tournament this weekend. They have a game Saturday morning, and if his team wins that game, they'll have a game at 8:45 Saturday evening. If Chase has to play that game, it means he won't have the sleepover with Nanaw. It's the night of his school's dinner auction that Mama and Daddy go to, and Chase gets to spend the night at Nanaw's house. But Mama said if he doesn't have the sleepover this Saturday, he can have one the next weekend. Yay! Chase and Nanaw had a conversation about who he eats lunch, and 's a cute story. He said he eats with the same boys every day, and they sit at the same table. He eats with Brady, Hunter, Cole, Drew, Joey, and Cam. Three of the boys are from the other 6th-grade class, which is a fun thing.

Wednesday, February 21, 2024

On Wednesday morning, when Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house, both Mama and Nanaw tried talking to Chase and got no response. Finally, Chase said, "I'm still asleep." Mama and Nanaw laughed, Mama was going to take her car to Dobb's for an oil change, and she needed Nanaw to pick her up at about 4:45. Daddy was going to pick Chase up for baseball practice at 4:30. Nanaw decided to clean up her car in Mama's honor and because it was such a mess. First, she went to the car wash and got the super-duper extreme $15.00 car wash. Then she used the free vacuum to clean up the rugs and floors inside. Then, back at home, she cleaned the sets and the dashboard and the doors. She was very happy with how it looked. It was probably the cleanest since she bought the Escape. One of these days, Nanaw is going to buy a new Bronco Sport but not yet. She probably will keep the Escape also. Mama texted Nanaw that baseball practice was rescheduled to next week so he was going to pick Mama up from Dobb's, then they would pick Chase up at about 5:15. When Chase got home from school, he worked on his vocabulary. Then he said he was going to study for tomorrow's science test. He realized that he'd forgotten to bring his science study guide home. He thought he had it but didn’t. So Nanaw texted Cole's mother, and she texted the five pages back to Nanaw. Nanaw told her she was an angel. Chase and Nanaw studied up to question 27 out of 40 before Mama and Daddy got there. Mama finished studying with Chase in the evening and suggested that Nanaw and Chase go over the questions again on Thursday morning.

Tuesday, February 20, 2024

On Tuesday morning, Nanaw and Mama reminded Chase to turn in the math quiz that he missed on Friday, plus his science packet, and he said he would. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school in the afternoon, he said he didn't have much homework, only finishing his math. It turned out that he actually had a lot of homework from things he missed when he was in Chicago for the hockey tournament. In addition to math, he had history, science, and Spanish. The math involved making charts and tables and histograms with data. Nanaw did the problems also, and Chase checked his answers against her, except for the last one. Nanaw did about half of it and wasn't sure she was on the right track. Chase had finished the problem so Nanaw looked at it, and she was on the right track so she finished the problem. Fortunately, Chase got all of his homework done because he has hockey practice tonight and wouldn’t have had a lot of time to do homework. Tomorrow is early dismissal so he'll have a little more time for homework, except that Daddy is going to pick him up at 4:30 for baseball practice.

Monday, February 19, 2024

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Monday morning on her way to Schnuck's. He brought his school backpack, just as Nanaw asked. First, they worked on Chase's math quiz that he missed on Friday when he was in Chicago, and which is now due tomorrow. Nanaw did the quiz last night, after she went over the instructions from Chase's math book. As Chase finished each problem, he checked with Nanaw to see what answer she'd gotten. When Chase was done with the quiz, he worked on his science packet. When he was done, he played on the computer till it was time to go home. Chase was very excited that his friend Ethan from his hockey team was coming over to his house around noon to play. Mama sent Nanaw the following message about what Chase and Ethan did in the afternoon. "Chase and Ethan played Wii, Roblox, knee hockey and hockey in the garage. It sounded like they had fun. I got Pizza Hut for lunch. Ethan went to practice with Chase, and Will is going to take them to off-ice practice for a bit."

Sunday, February 18, 2024

Here's what Mama posted on Facebook about Chase's hockey tournament this weekend: "We had such an amazing time in Chicago this weekend at Chase’s hockey tournament.  The boys had so much fun on and off the ice.  They didn’t win the championship but did win the consolation game today - Chase had a goal!!! ❤️❤️ Many thanks to our wonderful coaches, managers and hockey friends for all of the memories - and the mom mosas - and Fireball when your kid gets a goal. Go Affton!!!!’" The puck in the picture with Chase is the one that he scored the goal with. Yay, Chase!!  Nanaw went over to visit Chase a little while after Mama picked up Sam and Sylvester. For a little while, Nanaw watched Chase play hockey in the kitchen, and he showed her how he got the goal in the game this morning. They won the game 3 to 1. Then they went in the living room and Chase watched a hockey game for a few minutes. Next, they went downstairs, and Nanaw watched Chase play knee hockey. He turned on the fireplace and the TV and watched more of the hockey game, which had an exciting overtime goal. Nanaw worked on the math problems part of the time. She had told Chase they weren't going to do math today but would work on it for two hours tomorrow. He also has to finish his science packet but Nanaw is going to do the math first because he can always do the science packet by himself later.

Saturday, February 17, 2024

Nanaw reported to Mama that the dogs ate their dinners last night and their breakfasts this morning, something they don't usually do when they stay with Nanaw. So Mama and Nanaw were happy about that. Chase's hockey team had an outdoor game on Saturday morning. Mama said it was 19 degrees outside, and everybody was really cold. They lost the game 5 to 4 but it was close, and Chase's team played well. After the game, Chase went with two of his buddies to the hotel gym to "work out." Mama sent Nanaw a picture of Chase on the treadmill; she said he ran a mile on it. Mama said Chase played knee hockey last night with some of his friends, and they were going to play again today. They had another game in the afternoon, and Mama said the other team was really tough and beat Chase's team 8 to 0 -- and the other team was a bunch of real jerks. After the game, everybody went to Portillo's for dinner, which means burgers, hot dogs and shakes. Chase had a cheeseburger, cheese fries and a chocolate cake shake. The team's last game is tomorrow morning at 10:30.

Friday, February 16, 2024

Mama brought Sam and Sylvester over to Nanaw's house about 8 a.m., before they left for Chase's hockey tournament in Chicago. Mama sent a text that they saw Mandy, the wife of last year's hockey coach, when they stopped at Wally's. Mama said she and Chase shared some grapes so they had their fruit for the day. Nanaw told Mama that it was snowing; eventually, Nanaw ended up with 5 1/2 inches -- she measured it on the deck table and sent pictures to Mama. Mama said when they got to the hotel, they went to the restaurant for a snack. Chase and his buddy Ethan played Roblox on their phones. They went to their room, and the boys tried to play with the Switch but it was acting weird so they played knee hockey. They had a game at 6:30 p.m. which they tied. Mama said Chase's team played really well and had a good time.

Thursday, February 15, 2024

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, he told Nanaw he didn't have any homework that he needed to do after school because it was like a Friday, and he could do whatever homework he had when they got back from Chicago. Nanaw said it wasn't quite going to be that way. She told him about a math worksheet that he got a grade of 69 on. So Nanaw said they were going to go over the math used on the worksheet to find out what Chase missed. He wasn't too happy about that but he worked with Nanaw on the math for an hour and then Nanaw said he could play on the computer and his phone. They'll do more work on the math on Sunday and Monday. Nanaw needs to work on it, too because it's math she'd never done: box and whisker plot; interquartile range and mean absolute deviation. So Nanaw needs to learn all that by Sunday or Monday so she can help Chase. He missed the math quiz on Friday because he was in Chicago so he has to do it Monday. On Thursday evening, Mama and Daddy prepared Valentine's dinner (they postponed it because Valentine's Day was on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, and Chase and Daddy couldn't eat meat). Daddy grilled steak, and Mama made corn on the cob and chocolate pudding pie. It was all delicious. Nanaw was going to take a picture of Chase before she left, but he wanted to take a selfie so he did.

Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Happy Valentine's Day! Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Chase went to mass at school today for Ash Wednesday and got ashes on his forehead. Unfortunately, they must have gotten rubbed off because when Nanaw picked Chase up from school Wednesday afternoon, they were gone. During the day, Nanaw went to the Walgreen's by the County Library to look for a stuffed Valentine's Jack Skellington as a Valentine's present for Mama, and she found one. After school, Chase said he didn’t have any homework but he'd brought home his vocabulary and math worksheet for Nanaw to look at. Nanaw went through his vocabulary assignment but was unable to do anything with the math assignment. The math page covered two things that Nanaw had never done (a Box and Whisker Plot and the interquartile range for data sets). So Nanaw wasn't any help. Nanaw is going to read up on those thing and learn how to do them so she can help Chase. He said the teacher went over them in class but he didn't want to teach Nanaw how to do them. Maybe she can convince him to teach her. She asked him to bring his math book home tomorrow so she can read up on them. For Valentine's Day, Nanaw gave Chase $30 in Robux, a purple (Nanaw's favorite color) Hot Wheels car, and some Mike & Ike conversational hearts. Mama and Daddy gave Chase a stuffed puppy named Annie who is now Tee Tee's girlfriend, lots of candy, an Amazon gift card, plus some other things. After all the present giving and opening, Chase and Daddy went to the big park to go rollerblading.

Tuesday, February 13, 2024

Chase took his Fun Dip Valentines to school today to pass out to his class. He said about half of the class brought Valentines or candy or toys. He ate the ring pop candy from Brady right away. His friend Lizzie gave everybody a little red heart with a rubber dinosaur inside -- very cute. That's what Chase is holding in the pictures below. He turned in his history paper about his opinion on who was responsible for starting the Revolutionary War -- the British or the colonists. Chase's opinion was that the British were responsible. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he didn't have any homework. They went to Chase's house instead of Nanaw's house because Chase had a four o'clock orthodontist appointment so there wouldn't have been any time for homework. Chase brought his math homework home but Nanaw couldn't ready his writing so she didn't check it. He's going to bring his vocabulary assignment home tomorrow so they can work on it for him to turn in Thursday. He won't be at school on Friday because he, Mama and Daddy are going to Chicago for a hockey tournament. Hopefully, he won't miss too much schoolwork that he has to make up.

Monday, February 12, 2024

When Chase and Mama came to Nanaw's house on Monday morning, Nanaw told them how surprised she was that the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. She said she'd expected to find out they'd lost when she got home but they hadn't, and they went on to win. Chase and Nanaw did one little bit of studying for the religion test on the essay question. When Nanaw picked Chase up, he said he had a good day. But Nanaw forgot to ask him about his science and religion tests. He didn't really have homework except for printing out his history report that's due tomorrow. They had a bit of trouble getting it to print but eventually it printed out. The went over some of the Roll of Thunder questions and flashcards, and Chase seemed to enjoy that (to Nanaw's surprise). Daddy picked Chase up at 4:30 for baseball and hockey practices. Monday evening is very busy for Chase so it was good that he didn't have homework. He was going to do his AR reading on the drive to baseball practice. Mama told Nanaw that Chase's class is going to exchange Valentines tomorrow instead of on Valentine's Day on Wednesday because the principal said Wednesday is the first day of Lent and is a solemn day. Mama bought Fun Dip for Chase to give out.

Sunday, February 11, 2024

Sunday, February 11, 2024

Mama went to pick Chase up at Cole's house from the sleepover at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. Chase said he had a great time and lots of fun. He said they watched the movie It, made from the Stephen King book, and he said he wasn't scared. Mama said Cole's mom texted her to see if was all right for Chase to watch the movie. Chase said they had donuts for breakfast, and they were good. In the afternoon, Chase had a hockey lesson. And he and Daddy got home around five. Nanaw was already there for the Super Bowl. Daddy and brought food from the Father's Club at Chase's school: toasted ravioli, chicken wings, and wonderful thin-crust pizza that Nanaw loved. Mama also had sausage and cheese, plus a wonderful football-decorated cookie cake. Chase and Nanaw studied upstairs for Chase's science and religion tests on Monday. The football game was fun. Nanaw left before it was over and was sure the Chiefs had lost but they ended up winning the game.

Saturday, February 10, 2024

Chase had hockey practice on Saturday morning, and then Nanaw came to visit in the afternoon. Mama was at the grocery store, and when she got home, she gave Chase various things for lunch, including a cheese and cracker snack, some cheese curds and a Lunchable. Then he ate the rest of his Dairy Queen blizzard from last night and some Girl Scout cookies. Besides being there to visit with her buddy Chase, Nanaw was there to help him finish his math assignment from yesterday and to study for his science and religion tests on Monday. Before they started any of that, Nanaw had him answer quizlet multiple choice and flashcard questions from the two books he's reading in class: Refugee and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. The teacher reads the books out loud to the class, and they follow along with the books they keep at their desks. Nanaw got the books and books on tape from the libraries (County and Columbia) but she hasn't been doing much with them, unfortunately. Chase is not getting really good grades on the Roll of Thunder quizzes so Nanaw is reading the book and listening to the CDs so she can help him study the book for the quizzes. Interestingly enough, he seems to really like answering the online multiple-choice questions and the flashcard questions so this is a good thing and maybe he'll do better on the quizzes. Also, Nanaw found a Roll of Thunder packet in his accordion folder that she hadn't seen before so they'll go through that also. He's due for another Roll of Thunder quiz in a few days, and Nanaw will make sure he's prepared for it. So far, it doesn’t seem like there have been any quizzes on Refugee yet, just the vocabulary words from Refugee; Chase has gotten 100s on all of those so far so he has an A+ in that class. After they finished the book quizzes, Chase did the last three problems on his math assignment of mean, median and mode. Then Nanaw quizzed him on religion. She'll quiz him on science tomorrow before the Super Bowl. After Nanaw left, Chase was going to call his friend Hunter to play some video games. At six o'clock, Chase was going over to Cole's house for a sleepover with Cole, Hunter and Drew. They were going to have pizza for dinner. Chase was happy about the sleepover and having fun with his friends.

Friday, February 9, 2024

On Friday morning, Nanaw was happy to see that Chase was wearing his Sidney Crosby hockey jersey for dress-down day at school; it's a really cool jersey. (Nanaw isn't quite sure why they call it dress-down day.) Chase said the sweetest thing to Nanaw in the morning. He said he wished she could go to Chicago with them next weekend for the hockey tournament, and maybe they could find a pet-friendly hotel for Sam and Sylvester. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school in the afternoon, he said he knew he had two tests on Monday but it was Friday and he didn't want to do any homework. He said they could study for the science test and the religion test over the weekend. Nanaw told Chase she was reading the book he's studying in Reading -- Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry -- and would soon be caught with him where the class was in the book. This is so Nanaw can help him study for the next test, which will be over chapter 7. Nanaw will also continue reading the other book they're studying in class -- Refugee. Nanaw had to have Chase home by five so he could go to hockey practice. For dinner, they had Dairy Queen. Chase had cheese curds, and Daddy had a cheeseburger; and they both had cookie dough blizzards. Mama had a salad and a small hot fudge sundae with no nuts or whipped cream to keep the calories down.

Thursday, February 8, 2024

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, they went over his Homework Central list. It turned out that the science test has been postponed from Friday to Monday. The DLR test and the vocabulary test are still on Friday. Chase brought his math worksheet home for Nanaw to look at. The assignment was another one on mean, median, mode and range. Chase also had to complete a religion study guide for an upcoming test. Plus, he needed to finish the science study guide and packet for Monday's test. He did well on studying for the vocabulary test, and Mama will have him run through the words again tonight. He didn't do as well on the DLR page. He said he hadn't gotten the correct answers from the teacher. Evidently, the students go over the page in class and correct their answers when necessary. Nanaw helped him get the correct answers and had him go over the page again. Nanaw told Mama to have Chase go over the DLR again tonight. When Nanaw took Chase home, he said he wanted to go to the big park with Daddy to go roller skating so they did that. Mama texted Nanaw to tell her that there was a huge gas leak by the big park while Daddy and Chase were there. They heard a really loud noise, which must have been the gas leak. Evidently, there were all kinds of sirens and police there, in addition to Ameren.

Wednesday, February 7, 2024

Wednesday, February 7, 2024

Today, Nanaw gave Chase lemon water in his water bottle, plus more Goldfish Crisps. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, they went over the homework list and found that Chase had to finish his math, finish his vocabulary and finish his history report about who he thinks was responsible for starting the Revolutionary War. Chase's math was about mean, median, mode and range. Nanaw knew what mean and median are but not mode and range so Chase explained how to do them to her. Nanaw did the problems for fun -- Nana loves math. Chase finished his vocabulary assignment, and Nanaw quizzed him on the words the easy way. He said she should quiz him the hard way tomorrow. The hard way is when Nanaw gives Chase the word and he has to give the definition. The easy way is when Nanaw gives Chase the definition, and he gives Nanaw the word. Nanaw proofread Chase's history report and made some changes. She tried to print out a copy for him to turn in tomorrow but her printer had a paper jam. So Mama was going to print out the copy for him. When Nanaw took Chase home, he and Daddy were going to go for a run.

Tuesday, February 6, 2024

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Tuesday afternoon, they checked Nanaw's list and found that Chase didn't have any homework due tomorrow. Nanaw asked him if he'd gotten his math test back yet, and he said not yet. On the way home, Chase and Nanaw talked about the school lunches. Tuesday's lunch was toasted ravioli, one of Chase's favorite school lunches, along with spaghetti and pizza. Nanaw said he never used to eat the toasted ravioli with marinara sauce, He'd never tasted it so he didn't know if he liked it or not. Mama and Daddy encouraged him to try it, and he liked it. So now he eats marinara sauce with his toasted ravioli all the time. Speaking of toasted ravioli, the Father's Club at Chase's school is selling toasted ravioli, chicken wings and Syberg's pizza Sunday for Super Bowl parties. Mama is ordering all of it. Now to talk again about school lunches: On Thursday the school lunch is country-fried steak, something Chase didn't he'd like and never ordered. Somewhere along the line, Chase tasted it and decided he liked it and would try it at school. Nanaw can't quite remember how and when he tried it. It was one of two times and both times it involved Aunt Becky. Either Chase had a bite of her country-fried steak at Rockbridge or he had a taste at Aunt Becky and Uncle Mike's house. So Chase is going to try it. Nanaw can't wait to see what he thinks.

Monday, February 5, 2024

Unfortunately, Nanaw forgot to give Chase his water bottle on Monday morning. He sent Nanaw an email in the afternoon to tell her that. He also said he found the water bottle that he left in his math teacher's classroom the other day and that was good news. So he had a water bottle and water. Mama told Chase she would pick him up for baseball and hockey practice at 4:25. She said he should remember to put his contacts in. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he thought he did well on the math test. He said he took his time and went slowly but he still was one of the first students done. He said his best friend Joey didn't finish the test in class today so he will finish it in class tomorrow. Chase said Joey is mostly the last one to finish tests because he goes so slowly and carefully. Joey is one of the smartest kids in the class and gets really good grades. He's the spelling champion for the whole school, even though he's only in sixth grade. The only homework Chase had today was a science assignment. Nanaw fixed mac and cheese and a cheese breadstick for Chase's dinner. He ate the breadstick but only a little bit of the mac and cheese because he said he was full. Nanaw went to Walmart after Chase left. He had found out today the name of the new Goldfish crackers that he wanted Mama or Nanaw to get. They're called Goldfish Crisps, and Nanaw found them at Walmart. They're really delish.

Chase had a hockey game Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. at All American. Wonderful news! Chase's team won 5 to 0. They were so excited. Mama and Daddy said toward the end of the game they were afraid that the other team would score and ruin Chase's team's shutout but they didn't. In the afternoon, Nanaw came over to help Chase study for Monday's math test. Nanaw wanted him to do the study guide but he said he'd already done it in class. Nanaw said he could do it again but he said no. So Nanaw had him do the chapter test, and then after dinner, they would check the answers on the study guide he'd done in class on Friday. He missed 3 problems (93% or an A-) or 4 problems (91% or a B+) out of 43. (Nanaw found a quick grade calculator online and had fun using it.) Mama told Nanaw that Chase went over to Hunter's house for a while last night, and their friend Cole was there also. Mama sent pictures of the math study guide from the math textbook to Hunter's mom because Hunter didn't bring his book home. Nanaw had Mama send a copy of the answer sheet also, plus having her tell Hunter's mom that the answer to problem number 23 was incorrect and giving her the correct answer. Nanaw asked Chase to please take his time on the test and to make sure he's doing his best work. As Nanaw was leaving to go home, Chase was going to play knee hockey with Daddy downstairs, and then he planned to watch TV in his room. Nanaw thinks he likes the TV she got him for Christmas.

Chase had a hockey game in Fenton at 12:50 p.m. Mama and Nanaw drove separately to the game instead of with Daddy and Chase because Chase has to get get there at least 45 minutes before the game starts. Nanaw dressed warmly and took her heaviest blanket but the rink turned out to have heaters so it wasn't overly cold. Chase's Uncle George, Auntie LaLa and Chris also came to watch the game so Chase had quite the cheering fans section. It was such an exciting game because there was a major fight between players that just went on and on. One of the players on the bench came out on the ice and started fighting. He was ejected from the game because if you come on the ice illegally you're automatically ejected. The whole fight sort of roused up the teams, and they played really hard the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Chase's team lost 1 to 0. Nanaw stayed at Chase's house to help him study for Monday's math test but he didn't want to study. He said he didn’t feel like studying; he wanted to watch hockey on TV. Nanaw said okay but he would have to do four pages of math tomorrow, and he said okay. Mama, Daddy, Auntie LaLa and Chris went to Big Al's, a gambling place in Columbia for which Mama had a $25 coupon she won at last year's dinner auction. They stayed and gambled, and Mama said she lost a little money but they had lots of fun. Then they went to El Paso (the new Mexican restaurant in town) for dinner. Mama had called Nanaw to ask if she wanted to stay with Chase while they went to dinner, and Nanaw said an enthusiastic yes. Chase did his AR reading a few minutes before Mama and Daddy got home. So Nanaw will go over to Chase's house at about 4 p.m. to make sure Chase does four pages of math problems in preparation for the test.

Friday, February 2, 2024

Nanaw forgot to set her alarm last night so she was asleep when Mama and Chase arrived at 7 a.m. However, Nanaw quickly fixed Chase's breakfast and got dressed. Everything was fine, and Chase got to school on time. However, Nanaw will now remember to set two alarms so this doesn't happen again. After Nanaw dropped Chase at school, she went to Walmart and bought a knee brace and a knee sleeve. She wore the knee sleeve all day, and it really helped eliminate the pain in her knee and helped with her walking so that she didn't limp. Yay for that! She wishes she'd gone to the doctor right after the twisted knee happened instead of waiting so long. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Friday afternoon, she talked to him about his math test on Monday, and he said he didn't want to study for it after school. He said they would study for it Saturday and Sunday. Nanaw is going to Chase's hockey game in Fenton tomorrow around noon. Then after the game, she's going to his house to help him study for the math test. At Nanaw's house on Friday afternoon, they played with the Playmobil for a while, and then Chase played on the phone and the computer. Mama picked him up at 4:05 to go get his hair cut. When he got home from the haircut, he and Daddy played knee hockey, then he went to a baseball lesson. He and Daddy brought home McDonald's for dinner. Mama had him do 40 minutes of AR reading. Nanaw's not quite sure why 20 minutes instead of 40 minutes but maybe he didn't do his AR reading last night.

Thursday, February 1, 2024

When Chase came over to Nanaw's house on Thursday morning, she told him that he'd gotten all the answers to his math problems correct but he'd forgotten to do three of the problems so he did them. Today's dress code for Catholic Schools Week was jerseys so Chase wore his Notre Dame jersey and hat that he got when he went to Notre Dame for a hockey tournament. In the morning, Nanaw went to the doctor for her twisted or sprained knee. The doctor put an Ace bandage on it, which helped a lot with the pain. She also prescribed steroids and sent Nanaw for an X-ray. The doctor said if it wasn't better in six weeks, she would send Nanaw to an orthopedist to have the knee drained. In the afternoon, when Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her that his back was hurting. Nanaw put some pain cream on it but he said it didn't help. She also had him sit in the massage/heat chair, and he said that helped a little. They studied his vocabulary words for the quiz tomorrow. He did well on the words with Nanaw and did them again with Mama in the evening. Mama said he did fine on the words. On his own, he studied for the DLR quiz tomorrow. (Chase's class does a daily assignment for four days a week with several sentences they have to correct for spelling, punctuation and grammar. On Fridays, they have a test over some of the sentences. Chase usually does really well on these weekly quizzes but last week he got a 70 on the quiz. He got confused; the quiz was on proper nouns but he thought it was on pronouns. Chase only had about 40 minutes to study at Nanaw's house before Daddy picked him up for a baseball-hitting lesson.
