Sunday, July 31, 2022

Chase and Daddy went to church on Sunday morning, then Mama said Chase played on the Xbox for a long while. Chase had hockey practice at Fenton in the afternoon, and later told Nanaw that there were 28 players there for practice -- which is a lot. While Chase was at hockey practice, Mama and Nanaw went to Shoe Carnival and Dollar Tree. Chase will be excited that the basketball thing is open again at Shoe Carnival -- and Mama made a basket! Yay! At Dollar Tree, Nanaw got some more mint chocolate chip ice cream for Chase and some Skinny Pop. Nanaw went to visit Chase on Sunday evening. Because of her tooth, Nanaw couldn't eat dinner with him. They were having something with chow mein noodles, which excited Chase because he likes them a lot. Chase, Mama and Nanaw played with Facebook Messenger for kids, making video calls. Chase had been waiting for a call from his friend Jackson, who is on vacation in Florida but Jackson didn't call while Nanaw was there. Maybe he called after Nanaw left. Chase had fun with the video calls with Mama and Nanaw. After the video calls, Chase and Nanaw played Demo Derby in the Madagascar chair. Next, they played storms with the stuffed animals on Chase's bed. Then it was time for Nanaw to go home.

Saturday, July 30, 2022

On Saturday, Mama had a party for Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky, Nyeal and Irina. Chase had a great time playing baseball with Uncle Mike. Then, Nyeal and Chase jumped on the trampoline for a really long time, even in the dark. Nanaw had brought her tablet along with her for Chase to show her the Roblox baseball game. Chase started to show it to her and then started to play it by himself and never got back to showing the game to Nanaw. Chase had a cheeseburger and party potatoes to eat but didn't have any of his favorite dessert: chocolate pudding pie. Nanaw had two piece of yummy chocolate pudding pie, plus some whipped cream. Because of her tooth, that was the only thing Nanaw could eat. Mama sent the first picture below of Coolie, the smiley face Chase got at the Demo Derby Friday night. The second picture below is of Lars the lemur; Mama says Lars took a selfie. LOL

Friday, July 29, 2022

When Mama and Daddy got the email from the baseball coach, here's what he said about Chase: Chase Southerland will challenge our team in several ways. Polite, Well Mannered? Yes! And approaches the game with a purposeful intent to compete and improve. Could possibly play any position you asked - and with a smile! Good for you, Chase. In the morning, Chase read the lemur book from the library to his two lemurs and Biggie, Nanaw's lemur. School was good on Friday; Chase got done early, which made him very happy. They did long division flashcards and multiplication problems. Also state capitals and four worksheets on vocabulary and grammar, plus five pages in the Bridge workbooks. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to the Demo Derby with Brady's family. Brady hasn't made a baseball team yet but his dad is checking out other available teams for him. Chase and Brady had fun on the rides before the Demo Derby. Chase came home with a smiley face that he named Coolie. Mama sent a picture of Coolie on Saturday so it will be in that post.

Thursday, July 28, 2022

Chase made a schedule for the day on Thursday. From 1:30 to 2 he would do his AR reading, completing the 1000 minutes required for the library summer reading program. Then Chase and Nanaw would go to the library between 2 and 3 to check in for the final half of the library summer reading program and check out more Big Nate books for Chase and also a book on lemurs. Chase and Nanaw are doing research on lemurs for the science part of their schoolwork. Then school would be from 3 to 5. When they got to the library, they found out that when Chase registered for the first half of the program, they gave him the prizes for the whole program rather than just the first half. The book he received was for the first half; the humongous beach ball was for the second half. Chase found two Big Nate books and a lemur book to check out. They also put two lemur books on request. Chase got a bag of Ruffles out of the "bending" machine, as he used to call it when he was younger. There was a major rainstorm after they got home from the library, and Chase decided the stuffed animals were afraid of the storm and had to be safe so he put them under the table in the computer lab. Chase made a list of five facts about lemurs to report to Mama as his homework from "school."

Wednesday, July 27, 2022

When Chase and Mama arrived at Nanaw's house on Wednesday morning, they share Chase's good news with her. He made the Columbia Baseball Club team. The coach called last night and talked to Daddy, telling him that they liked Chase's form, his attitude and his politeness and good manners. He's on the main team. Mama found out later in the day that Cole is on one of the Columbia Baseball Club teams also although Mama didn't know which one -- there are two teams. Cole's mama texted Mama about Cole and told her Cole jumped for joy when he heard about Chase. They still don't know anything about Brady, and Connor is on vacation and hasn’t tried out yet. Hopefully, all four of the boys will be on the same team -- that would make Chase so happy. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Nanaw found a new source of worksheets for Chase that she likes, and he did four of them today. She's going to print out more of them. Chase got his two hours of schoolwork done in an hour and a half and was very proud of himself. So Nanaw dismissed school early, and Chase went to play a baseball game on Roblox.

Tuesday, July 26, 2022

Tuesday was sort of a mixed-up day because Nanaw had a horrendous dentist appointment, and Chase had an orthodontist appointment at 4 p.m. In the morning, Chase did his AR reading. He now has only one more day to read to be finished with the library summer reading program. When he's finished, Chase and Nanaw will go to the library to sign up for his prizes. They'll also return some of the books checked out on Chase's library card. Then they'll arrange to change the email address on his card to Nanaw's gmail account. The htc email wasn't working so the library didn't automatically renew Chase's books. When it was time for Nanaw's tooth implant dentist appointment, she took Chase to his house. Two hours later, she picked him up. Nanaw decided they wouldn't have school today because she didn't feel well from the dentist appointment. Chase was okay with that. Mama said he did okay at the ortho appointment but he has to brush his teeth closer to the gums. Mama is not happy with Chase because she thinks he spends too much time on the tablet. Nanaw thinks some of it okay; he watches YouTube videos, which is different from playing video games. Nanaw thinks the YouTube videos are making Chase more articulate and grown-up and giving him an exposure to lots of things.

Monday, July 25, 2022

Both Chase and Nanaw forgot about his AR reading on Monday. He says he won't forget to do it tomorrow. He only needs 40 more minutes to complete the library summer reading program. Mama sent two pieces of French bread from last night's dinner, and Chase was excited to have butter bread -- he really loves bread. At lunch, he lost a tooth on the lower left side of his mouth. Nanaw texted Mama about it, and Mama said she'd have to find the tooth monster to put the tooth in. Nanaw told Mama she thought he was in the stuffed animal hammock. He played Roblox on Nanaw's new computer in the computer lab. He told Nanaw that somehow Roblox had deleted some of his Robux but that they were restoring it. School went well today, faster than usual. Nanaw didn't have any special worksheets for Chase so she'll have to find more of them for him. For school, Chase did: multiplication flashcards, state capitals, a Spanish to English translation sheet; long division problems, a worksheet on renewable sources of energy, ancient Greece math word problems, fill-in-the-blank grammar questions and a reading comprehension worksheet on world holidays. After Nanaw dropped Chase off at home, he and Mama went for a walk around the neighborhood. Then Chase and Daddy went to the park for a run. Fortunately, the weather had cooled off so it wasn't too hot.

Sunday, July 24, 2022

On Sunday morning, Chase and Daddy went to church. Later, Daddy took Chase to get a haircut. In the afternoon, Chase had a tryout for the Columbia Baseball Club. Daddy said he did well. Unfortunately, at his first at-bat, he didn't wear his sports glasses and he missed four balls. Daddy gave him his glasses and after that, he did much better. Nanaw came over for pot roast dinner and to play with Chase. The pot roast was delicious, and Mama sent some home with Nanaw. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw played with the guys in his room. First, the guys had tryouts for the baseball teams. Then they had speed trials with Chase using a stopwatch. Next, they played a baseball game of three innings that ended in a tie. Chase decided he wanted to go outside to play in his pool. So everybody went outside. For a while, Nanaw pitched to Chase standing in the pool -- his version of water baseball. Then Daddy pitched to him.

Saturday, July 23, 2022

Chase and Nanaw slept late on Saturday morning. Chase woke up about nine, he said, and then, all on his own, got dressed. Mama and Daddy had gone out to dinner at Washy's on Friday evening. Mama said they went to bed earlier than Chase and Nanaw. On Saturday morning, Mama went to Schnuck's to do her grocery shopping. Then, she picked Chase up. They went to Red Roof and then to the little grocery store on Main Street to get something to make for dessert for their evening's adventure. Mama, Daddy and Chase went to visit Joe, Jen and Jackson. First, Chase and Jackson went swimming in Jackson's subdivision's swimming pool. For dinner, Aunt Jen made tacos. Mama's desserts were assorted no-bake cookies that Chase and Mama said were delicious. After dinner, Chase and Jackson looked at Jackson's baseball cards and then played with Jackson's hoverboard. Mama said that at first, Chase was nervous about the hoverboard but then really liked it. Mama said maybe Chase could get a hoverboard for Christmas, plus the Occulus Virtual Reality system.

Friday, July 22, 2022

Chase and Nanaw were excited about their sleepover on Friday. Chase made up a schedule of activities -- very cute. The older he gets, the more interesting and charming he gets. In school, they did multiplication problems, long division flashcards, state capitals, translation of Spanish words to English, reading comprehension about an Enchanted story, a worksheet about rain, a worksheet about the earth's water, and a chart about trees and questions about the trees in the chart. Following Chase's schedule, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Chase and Nanaw played with the kitchen materials and the guys in the living room. It was great fun. Next on the schedule was a trip to return a book to the library and visit the cemetery. Then they went to Taco Bell for Nanaw's Crunchwrap Supreme. Next, they went to Sonic for Chase's dinner. He ordered a pretzel and a Sonic Blast with M&Ms. He wanted Cheddar Bites but they were out of them. So, they ordered mozzarella sticks. Dinner was wonderful and made Chase and Nanaw happy. After dinner, they played with the kitchen things and the guys again. They made a buffet for the guys, which was really fun. For playing with the kitchen, Chase did the following excellent activities: He created a massive menu with starters, combos and deluxe combos. He made credits for five of the guys, Nanaw and himself. He got out his play money and calculator. He had a pretend credit card scanner. All of it was awesome and so much fun. At 10, Chase took his bath. At 1030, he said "Time for bed," and promptly fell asleep.

Thursday, July 21, 2022

Chase decided he didn’t want to get dressed and wanted to wear his jammies for school so he did. He brought several balls and toys to school and was able to multitask -- playing with the toys and stuffed animals and still answering questions and doing work. He also unearthed the baseball with finger placements on it and played with that for a while. He took it home with him and asked if he could keep it forever. Nanaw said yes, of course. In school, Chase did long division problems (Nanaw did, too); multiplication flashcards; state capitals; examining a poem by Lewis Carroll; reading comprehension about a community helpers paragraph; 24 multiplication problems using hundreds and thousandths; completing the words in 12 proverbs; completing pottery patterns; and reading comprehension about an Achilles' Heel paragraph. Chase has all kinds of plans for tomorrow's sleepover, like playing whiffle ball, playing with the kitchen stuff, and going to Sonic for dinner.

Wednesday, July 20, 2022

Wednesday was a mixed-up day because Nanaw had a meeting at church in the afternoon from 1 to 3. Plus, in the morning, Uncle Mike called Triple A to have them come tow his little red truck to Airport Diagnostic in Berkley. The tow truck driver was a tall, blond woman who was really nice and really funny. Nanaw asked Uncle Mike to give her a good review when he receives a survey from Triple A. Nanaw took Chase to his house a little after noon, then sat in backed-up traffic because the Jefferson Barracks Bridge was down to one lane. Fortunately, the traffic cleared up quickly, and Nanaw wasn’t late for her meeting. After the meeting, Nanaw picked Chase up, and they went back to Nanaw's house. Chase made some plans for his sleepover on Friday night and shared them with Nanaw. He wants to go to Sonic for dinner and get a pretzel and cheddar bites and maybe something special to drink. He says that on Friday, they'll have school from 3 to 5. He saved three of his protractor problems from today's worksheet for Friday. He said he'll go to bed between 10:30 and 11. Nanaw loves that he's a little planner. After Nanaw took Chase home, she ran some errands, including going to Dollar Tree. There, she bought two things of ice cream for Chase (Strawberry Cheesecake and Mint Chocolate Chip) and three things of candy (Mike and Ike, Mentos and Sour Patch.)

Tuesday, July 19, 2022

Today was cleaning lady day so in the morning Nanaw was rushing around the house getting everything picked up and put away. About nine o'clock, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs, along with all the cats and all the stuffed animals, plus lunch and snacks, Chase's AR book and the tablet. For lunch, Chase had a loaded Lunchable, with a sub sandwich, chips, Hershey's kisses and a Kool-Aid drink. He did his AR reading while they were downstairs. For school, they did long division problems with two-digit divisors, multiplication flashcards, state capitals, two sets of multiplication word problems, labeling the parts of a coconut tree, giving two synonyms for a list of words, and determining whether sentences were formal or informal language. When Mama got off work, she picked up Chase and Nanaw and they went to Target to buy school supplies for Chase. It was great fun, and Nanaw had a good time.

Monday, July 18, 2022

On Monday, Nanaw had a dentist appointment so she took Chase over to his house. When Nanaw was finished with her appointment and came back to pick up Chase, Mama told Nanaw that Chase's sports glasses were missing at the park, and Daddy had gone to look for them. Fortunately, he found them. Chase did his AR reading, and he has only 160 more minutes till he's completed the St. Louis County Library Summer Reading Program. For school, Chase and Nanaw did multiplication problems together. Then Chase did division flash cards, state capitals, Xplor magazine, fractions and decimals, greater than and less than, adding prefixes and suffixes, sentences (complete, fragment and run-on), and identifying ways animals survive. Chase got mail at Nanaw's house: a little pocket penguin. Mama said she had it sent here. She didn’t know it was coming all the way from China. She said it cleared customs a few days ago. LOL In the evening, Chase had another baseball tryout. Last Thursday, he tried out for the Saints. Monday's tryout is for the Tribe. There's one more team to try out for.

Sunday, July 17, 2022

On Sunday, Chase told Nanaw that he and Daddy went to church in the morning, and then he played Roblox. Nanaw came over for dinner and to visit Chase. For dinner, Mama baked a ham and made the rice and butter dish that Nanaw likes. Dinner was delicious, and Mama sent home ham and rice for Nanaw's Monday night dinner. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw played softball with the stuffed animals on Chase's bed until Mama was finished cleaning up the kitchen. Then the three of them played Uno with the Uno machine. They played three games, and Chase won all three games. He's the champion. After Uno, Chase and Nanaw went back to Chase's room to finish their baseball game. When the game was over, (it ended in a tie instead of Chase getting his usual win), Chase and Nanaw straightened out Chase's bed. Then it was time for Chase to play with his tablet and for Nanaw to go home.

Saturday, July 16, 2022

On Friday night, Mama had a sleepover at Auntie LaLa's house while her family went on a camping trip Mama and Auntie LaLa went to Wally's (the humongous gas station on I44) and then to Parkmoor for dinner. On Saturday morning, Daddy brought Chase to Nanaw's house while he went to visit Grandma Pat. Chase played Roblox, and Nanaw watched him. He's excellent at the game and also likes to create his own games. He's very creative with his avatar and is always changing things up. When Daddy picked Chase up, they were going out to cousin Elias's house in Silex. Mama later told Nanaw that Elias and Chase went swimming and played baseball. Evidently, Chase got lots of chigger bites on his left foot, and they really itched. Mama put medicine on the chigger bites and that seemed to help.

Friday, July 15, 2022

Chase and Nanaw had a wonderful adventure on Friday. They went to visit the Train House for the first time since the Christmas holidays. The weather was cooler than usual so Nanaw decided it would be a perfect day to visit the museum. In the main lobby, they saw several very cool cars, including a gold Firebird. There was also a book sale going on. Parked in the lobby was a huge Bookmobile from the St. Louis Public Library. At first, Chase told Nanaw she couldn't look at books in the book sale but later on he changed his mind and said she could look for a few minutes. They rode on the train, even though Chase said he didn't want to. They counted the bones and got them right the first trip around. But on the second trip, Nanaw missed two and Chase missed one. Next, they went up the hill to the car museum and looked at all the cars. Chase really likes the cars. Back in the main building, Nanaw bought Chase a box of popcorn and a red fruit drink. While they were sitting at the table, Chase said the train ride was fun -- this from the one who didn't want to go. There was also a McDonnell Douglas display in the main building. As they were looking at books, their friend Lynn came over to see them and give them both hugs. It was good to see her. For school, they did long division problems, multiplication flash cards, Xplor magazine, a writing organization worksheet, a worksheet about how the US government works, making improper fractions into mixed numbers, a US Constitution worksheet, and a prepositional phrases worksheet. The first picture is Chase holding the little Fisher Price figures Mama took with her as a joke for her sleepover with Auntie LaLa. The second picture is a train Chase made out of the stuffed lemurs and Fluffy Jr., the white fox, in honor of their trip to the Train House  The sixth picture is of a Fiero in the car museum; Nanaw told Chase that Pawpaw had a Fiero and then Mama bought it from him and loved that car.
