Happy Halloween!! Sunday, October 31, 2021

Halloween was very different this year. Mama told Nanaw that Brady's family was going trick or treating with them. And also Cam's family was coming too. So Nanaw wasn't too happy about this but decided to go along with them. At 4:30 she went over to Chase's house. He greeted her at the top of the steps with a Halloween cookie he made especially for her. It was a bat with sprinkles (the first picture below). Nanaw helped Chase put on his Yadier Molina Halloween costume. Aunt Rita called while Nanaw was in Chase's room, and Nanaw talked to her for a little while. She promised to send Aunt Rita and Uncle Doug a picture of Chase in his Halloween costume -- which she did. Lots of unexpected people showed with Brady's family, and they went along trick or treating. It was fun, and Chase seemed to have a good time with Brady. Hunter's family came to visit at the end of the night. The last picture is of Mama and Chase's pumpkins that they carved.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went to the grocery store. They were a little later than usual because Aunt Becca and Uncle Stan came over. Uncle Stan helped Daddy load Mama's old desk in the truck to take to the dump, and Aunt Becca came to visit.  Nanaw was happy to see her little buddy Chase. At noon, Mama went to Walgreen's to get her Covid booster shot and her flu shot. At 12:30, Daddy and Chase went to the hockey store to get Chase's hockey gear. His hockey practice starts in November. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Outback for Mama and Daddy's 11th anniversary dinner. For the first time, Chase had steak -- the kid's sirloin. They also shared a blooming onion. For dessert, Chase had ice cream. The last picture is of a Santa Jack pillow that Mama bought; it's going to stay out all year round.

On Friday, Mama had the day off from work and Chase had the day off from school so they had an adventure with Nanaw. First, at 10:30 they went to the Magic House. Unfortunately, it was fairly crowded there with lots of really young children. There weren't very many older children because most schools weren't closed. Sometimes it's was hard for Chase to do things or play with things because there were so many children there. They visited the science lab, the water park, the place with the wall screen where you color planes and trucks, the musical balls (decorated like pumpkins for Halloween), the train, the India display, the football room, the president's office, the balls in the window display, and the racing Legos. Chase wanted to leave a bit early because it was so crowded but Nanaw thinks he had a good time. For lunch, they went to Jack in the Box for yummy tiny tacos. Then they went to Dollar Tree; Nanaw went into Schnuck's to get an Outback gift card for Mama and Daddy's 11th anniversary present on Saturday.

Mama had the day off work on Thursday so she took Chase to school. Later, Mama and Nanaw went to Ben’s in Belleville. Nanaw bought Chase a science kit to build a pinball machine as a Christmas present. Mama bought him a wiggling drawing utensil. After Ben’s, they went to Target so Mama could buy a storage tub. After school, Chase said Will had invited him over to play. Nanaw dropped him off and then picked him up at 5. Will’s brothers were pretending to fight with Chase — it was very cute but Chase says he doesn’t want any brothers or sisters. Mama and Daddy had a parent teacher conference with Chase’s teacher. She said all kinds of good things about him. She said everyone likes him and he’s good to everyone. She said he’s quiet but does participate in class. Mama said it was the best review Chase ever got.

The first photo below is the newspaper article about Terrific Kids — yay, Chase. Brady’s grandma gave it to Nanaw. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she told him about the article, and for some ridiculous reason, Chase didn’t want Nanaw to tell Mama about the article but she did anyway. Back at Nanaw’s house, Chase did his 15 minutes in AR reading in the Game Changers book. Nanaw entered the information on the reading log. After the AR reading, Chase watched Curious George. Mama came at 4:15 p.m. to pick Chase up for an orthodontist appointment at 4:30. Hopefully he was going to get his redone retainer, if the lab finally got it right.

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she parked in the lines that were for the younger boys and girls, and Chase told her she shouldn't have parked there. He said it was illegal -- he's just like Mama when it comes to illegal things. Chase said he had a good day and had lots of homework but he got it all done in class. He said the only thing he had to do was his AR reading. He wanted to read one of the Wimpy books that he didn't get from school, but Nanaw asked him to read his regular AR book so he could finish it and take the test. When they got to Nanaw's house, he did his 15 minutes of AR reading, then he watched Curious George. Mama picked Chase up around 4 so that he could get ready for pitching practice at 5. In the evening, Nanaw saw that he'd started ripping the leather off Mama's desk chair, just like he did with the other one. Nanaw texted Mama and told her about it and how mad she was. Mama said they lectured Chase, didn't let him have his tablet, and not have a bath bomb when he took his bath. Nanaw told Mama she was going to put an afghan over the chair to keep Chase from ripping it. Nanaw used the lavender and white afghan Grandma Marge

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he didn't have much to say about his school day. They called Mama and she got Chase to talk a bit about his day. At home, Chase wanted to watch Curious George on PBS. Nanaw downloaded the PBS Kids app so Chase can watch Curious George whenever he wants. Mama sent Nanaw a text saying Chase's report card came, and he had all As except for a B in reading. Mama and Nanaw were dismayed at the B because reading is Chase's best subject so it doesn't make sense. Mama is going to get clarification from Chase's teacher at the parent/teacher conference on Thursday. After Curious George, Chase did his 15 minutes of AR reading. Then Nanaw asked him his spelling words, and he did pretty well with them. He played with Nanaw's phone for awhile, and then Nanaw took him home.

Mama said they all stayed up till midnight Saturday night at Uncle Chris’s house. Chase played outside with Elias. Mallory was there also, and Cesi, Elias, Mallory and Chase watched the movie Boss Baby 2. Chase slept on an air mattress in Elias’s room. When Nanaw got home from the Little House, she went over to Chase’s house to play with him. They played with his hockey and football helmets. Then they went into Chase’s room to play golf. Next they played soccer with the guys. Lemay the lemur hurt his arm and Nanaw had to put a cast on his arm. Dinner was ready— beef. sandwiches and tater tots. Nanaw had a few bites of beef and then left for home. She borrowed Mama’s super umbrella because it was raining.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went to the grocery store. Chase and Nanaw went into the computer lab, and Chase played a game of football on the laptop. They watched 101 Dalmatians, one pf Chase's favorite movies.  Chase was excited about his weekend plans. He, Mama and Daddy were going out to Uncle Chris's house in the afternoon. Mama and Daddy were going with Uncle Chris and Aunt Kristen to the dinner auction supporting Elias's school. Cesi was going to baby-sit Elias, Mallory and Chase while the adults were at the dinner auction. Then Mama, Daddy and Chase were going to have a sleepover at Uncle Chris's house. Nanaw is babysitting Sam and Sylvester, and her kitty cats hid out.

Daddy had the day off from work on Friday so he took Chase to school. Later in the morning Daddy brought Mama’s old desk chair to Nanaw’s house for Chase to use in the computer lab and to replace the chair Chase ripped up. After school, Will came over and invited Chase to come to his house so Nanaw took him and then picked him up. Nanaw took Chase home at 5. Auntie LaLa, Uncle Chris and Will were there visiting. Nanaw was happy to see them — it’s been awhile since she saw them. Chase was so excited to see little Will, as he calls him. They played field hockey out in the back yard and then jumped on the trampoline. Mama ordered Pizza Hut but Nanaw didn’t stay to eat. Mama gave Nanaw caramel apple dump cake to take home.

Daddy had the day off from work on Thursday so he took Chase to school. When Nanaw picked him up, she said they couldn't go to the park because he had to study for three tests tomorrow -- religion, Stone Fox vocabulary and Stone Fox reading comprehension. Nanaw said he also had to do his accelerated reading. He studied his religion book, and Nanaw helped with the questions. Then he studied the Stone Fox packet. He didn't want to read the book and he didn't want Nanaw to read the book because the dog Searchlight dies at the end of the book. Chase said he didn't want Nanaw to cry. When Chase got home, Mama said they would have to study right away because she had to go let Aunt Becca's dog Buddy out. Aunt Becca and Uncle Stan are in Gatlinburg. Nanaw forgot to take any pictures of Chase today so she asked Mama to take one and send it to her. Mama had Sam on her lap when she took the picture, and he ended up in the picture. Nanaw said she was getting two for one.

Nanaw had plans to take Chase to Stuckmeyer’s after school. But Chase said he want to. Nanaw insisted and it didn’t go well. He didn’t want to go on the playground and kept trying to pull Nanaw back to the car. It was not a good thing. They bought candy sticks and cobbler mix for Mama. Chase did his AR reading on the drive to Stuckmeyer’s So that part of his homework was taken care of. After they got back to Nanaw’s house, Chase studied for his social studies class tomorrow. Then he had band practice with his clarinet and his stuffed animals. Mama called to find out about Stuckmeyer’s and Nanaw said it didn’t go well and explained what happened. Mama said she would talk to Chase and that Nanaw should stay to hear it. On the drive to his house, Chase asked Nanaw if she was staying for the lecture. Nanaw said yes she was staying. It wasn't so much a lecture as Mama trying to find out why Chase acted the way he did. Mama and Daddy talked to Chase and asked him to have a better attitude and to behave.

Tuesday morning Chase said he wanted to speed up the process — he was talking about getting dressed and eating breakfast. Nanaw thinks he just wanted more time on the tablet. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her their Stuckmeyer’s adventure was cancelled because he had homework — a math worksheet and his AR reading. Nanaw told him it was also cancelled because Mama was going to pick him up at four to get him ready for pitching practice at five. He brought home his Young Author story and the judge said they liked it and to keep up the good writing. After Chase left, Nanaw discovered he’d forgotten his AR book, math book and retainer case.

Chase wore a new, very cute pair of pajamas Monday morning. Nanaw forgot to take a picture of him in the jammies so she took a picture of the pajama top after he took it off (the first picture below). When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he had social studies homework and his AR reading. Nanaw had wanted to go to Stuckmeyer's after school but Chase didn't want to go. He said they could go tomorrow. When they got home, Chase played football outside while Nanaw transplanted all the flowers into the whiskey barrel where the cucumbers were going. Chase and Nanaw went inside, and Chase had a snack, then did his social studies homework. Then he did his 15 minutes of AR reading, using the timer on Nanaw's phone. Nanaw signed his reading log; he has to turn it in. Homework done, Chase played with the things on the Halloween table, then played with the tablet. Nanaw loves watching him play with little things and creating activities. The last picture is of a Halloween-decorated car Nanaw saw on the Schnuck's parking lot; she sent it to Mama, saying Mama should decorate her car.

On Sunday, Daddy and Chase went to church. Then the whole family went to weekends only to buy the gaming live seat. It will be delivered on October 29. Next they went to Office Max and bought a new desk chair for Mama. Their last adventure was to walk down Main street and look at all the scarecrows on the lamp posts. They visited Jack and Sally on a side street. The ping pong table was set up in the garage, which made Chase very happy. Nanaw came over to visit. She and Chase played ping pong for a long time. Then they went into the house and played with his new football helmets. For dinner, Mama, Daddy and Chase had homemade, make-it-yourself pizzas. Nanaw had Chile and cheese. Chase played with his football helmets again after dinner.

Chase came to visit Nanaw on Saturday morning while Mama went to the grocery store. Chase and Nanaw played ping pong on the dining room table and had a great time. Chase did some playing by himself. They put Tee Tee in the Chase's new remote control car and drove him around the house. A little later, they went into Chase's room to play. At 11:30, Mama and Daddy came to pick up Chase and take him to the Zoo for an adventure. Grandma Pat and lots of the members of her family and Dadd's family were going to be there, too. Chase's cousin Wesley and Chase both got stuffed animals from Grandma Pat -- a parrot he named Rainbow for Chase and a lemu for Wesley. Mama bouth Chase another lemur that Lars would have a friend. Chase named the new lemur Lemey. Nanaw can't wait to see the new stuffed animals. Mama posted a lot of pictures on Facebook and some of them are below. One of the displays at the Zoo was a Jack Skellington cemetery and that must have made Mama very happy. The picture of Mama and Chase shows the cemetery.
