When Nanaw dropped Chase off at school, she wished him good luck on his spelling test. He got 20 out of 20 so the good luck worked. He took the test on Where Is the Great Barrier Reef? and got 8 out of 10 points. After school, Chase and Nanaw studied for his English and social studies tests on Friday. They each took the comprehension and vocabulary tests and then graded each other’s papers. They both got 100% A+. Then they studied the states. Chase wrote the names of all fifty states on a blank map for the social studies test. Then Chase tested Nanaw on the state capitals and she didn’t do so well. She’s going to have to study. Yesterday Chase told Nanaw about the paper prayer box they made in religion class. In the box they put a slip of paper for each family member. Chase had slips for himself, Daddy, Mama, the dogs and cats, Grandma Pat and Nanaw. Every night Daddy and Chase will each draw a name out of the box and say a prayer for that person. Mama picked Chase up at 4:20 to go for his second hockey evaluation. After this, Chase will be assigned to a hockey team. Mama sent the last picture of Sam overflowing in the little green bed in the office. She was excited because he was cuddling with Sylvester's toys.

Wednesday, March 30, 2022

Today was spring picture day. Mama bought Chase a blue shirt from Old Navy that she tried to get the wrinkles out of. Nanaw tried to but the wrinkles stayed in. Nanaw reminded Chase to bring his Journeys book home so he and Nanaw could read the story for this week's test. When Nanaw picked Chase up, it was raining hard so she brought along one of the big umbrellas so she could keep Chase and herself dry. She asked Chase if he'd brought his Journeys book home and he said yes. At Nanaw's house, they did a lot of studying. First, Chase did his AR reading. Then they read the Journeys story: The Right Dog for the Job. Chase had his Chromebook read the story aloud while he followed along in the book. Next, they studied the states for the Friday social studies test. They also went over the spelling words again. Chase had brought his clarinet home so he played Frere Jacques and other songs for Nanaw. Nanaw is happy that he seems to really like playing the clarinet. Chase got 23 out of 25 on Tuesday's science test. Nanaw texted Mama that maybe if they don't stress, Chase will get better grades.

Tuesday, March 29, 2022

Nanaw ran Chase through some science definitions on Tuesday morning in preparation for his science test. Mama and Nanaw have made a pact not to stress about Chase’s test grades. They’ll do their best to help him study and hope that he tries his best on the tests. After school, they went to the park where Chase played with Brady and Emma. Chase told Nanaw there’s going to be a wedding in his class tomorrow. Ethan and Lizzie are getting married. Lizzie is going to say yes but Ethan is going to say no. Back at Nanaw’s house, Chase and Nanaw studied his spelling words and Chase did well. They reviewed severa good student practices and went over the questions he missed in last week’s reading test. Next, they went downstairs to study the states for Friday’s social studies test. First, they located Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Area 51, Illinois for Lincoln, Easter Island and Great Barrier Reef. Then they worked on the states Chase learned in class today. Then he told Nanaw he would do a states rap and he did. It was really good.

Monday, March 28, 2022

When Nanaw dropped Chase off at school, she reminded him to bring his science book home to study for Tuesday's science test. Mama picked Chase up from school and when she asked him about the science book, he said he forgot the book and the study worksheet.. Mama tried to make him go back in school to get it, and he refused, just like he's done with Nanaw a few times. Mama took Chase to the dentist for a teeth cleaning, then told Nanaw she could come hang with Chase for awhile. Chase found his science book online on his Chromebook, and he and Nanaw studied the science lessons. Then they played with his Hot Wheels, toy soldiers and Mario figures. Mama, Nanaw, Uncle Mike and Chase were happy that Pujols is coming back to the Cardinals. In the evening, Mama and Chase went over the science again, and then started studying the location of states for Friday's social studies class.

Sunday, March 27, 2022

Chase and Daddy went to church on Sunday morning. Then in the afternoon, Chase had a major adventure. He went to the immersive Van Gogh exhibit in St. Louis at the Galleria. His Uncle Will-Bill bought tickets for Chase, Daddy, Mama, Uncle Chris, Aunt Kristen, Cesi, Elias, Uncle Chuck, Aunt Kristin, Mallory, Aunt Becca and Uncle Stan. Mama said she thinks Chase had a good time, especially since he got to see his cousin Elias. Mama almost bought a stuffed Van Gogh doll with a misshapen ear. But it was $40, and Mama didn't think she should spend that much on the doll. (Sometimes Mama is thrifty.) Later in the afternoon, Chase had baseball practice. Nanaw came over to visit after baseball practice. She and Chase played Roblox -- Chase on his tablet and Nanaw on Mama's tablet. They did a lot of Five Nights of Freddy games and a lot of Jumpscares. Nanaw doesn't have much Chase time on Monday, just in the morning before school. He has to go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning at 3:30 so Mama is going to pick him up from school.

Saturday, March 26, 2022

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went to the grocery store. Nanaw had gotten out all of Chase's Army toys and soldiers for him to play with. She also brought the Uno machine and Uno cards into the dining room. Chase played with the Army toys and soldiers for a long time. Then he and Nanaw played a game of Uno with the cards, and Nanaw won. Mama and Daddy went to Wells Fargo to test out Daddy's badge for going back to the office on Monday and to look at the boxes of Mama's things from her desk. So Nanaw got to have bonus time with Chase while they did that. They decided to bring the boxes home, and Nanaw said they could put the boxes downstairs at her house. Mama had eleven boxes. She took some of them home and left the rest at Nanaw's. After Chase went home, Nanaw went to Weekends Only to look for sofas. She didn't find anything there so she went to Ashley's. She found something she liked there and ordered two sofas. They'll be delivered on Wednesday. Mama says Chase had fun at the hockey evaluations this afternoon. She said he didn't skate as fast as the other boys but that's all right since he had fun.

Friday, March 25, 2022

Nanaw wished Chase good luck on his tests when she dropped him off at school Friday morning. He had three tests: religion, reading and social studies. Mama said he did well with his studying last night. He had a substitute teacher today (Mrs. Donjon went out of town for her brother's wedding) so none of his tests were scored. That will have to wait until his teacher returns to the classroom. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her he thought he did well on his tests. He also said he and Cole got into an "incident." Nanaw couldn't quite get the details out of him so Mama is going to talk to him over the weekend about it. Chase is coming over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while Mama goes to the grocery store. Then Mama and Daddy are going downtown to Wells Fargo to test out Daddy's badge and look at Mama's boxes of belongings from her desk. So Chase gets to have an extended stay at Nanaw's. Yay! On the way home from school, Chase and Nanaw went to the library to drop off and pick up books. When Chase got in the car, he saw the snacks Nanaw had brought for him, and he said, "No trips! No trips!" But they went anyway, despite his protests. In the afternoon Mama invited Nanaw to come to dinner with them at Applebee's in Waterloo. Nanaw was very excited because she'd been wanting to go to Applebee's. For dinner, Nanaw had riblets and slaw. Mama had chips and cheese, and cheese balls. Chase had mac and cheese and mozzarella sticks. Daddy had fish and chips. It was a wonderful dinner and a wonderful time.

Thursday, March 24, 2022

On Thursday morning, when Chase got out of the car at school, Nanaw wished him good luck on his spelling and math tests. He did well on the spelling test -- 20 out of 20. He missed four on the match tests -- 26 out of 30. He brought the test paper home, and Nanaw asked Mama to keep it in his binder so she can go over the problems with him on Friday. Maybe reviewing what he got wrong will help him get problems right the next time. After school, Chase did his AR reading and Nanaw logged it in the notebook. Then they studied the reading questions and the vocabulary questions. Chase did well on the questions, only missing a few. Nanaw sent the questions home to Mama so she can go over them again with Chase. Next, they studied the Social Studies Online reading and questions, and Chase did well on them. Nanaw printed out the questions and answers for Mama so she can go over them again. Chase was excited to be finished with studying for his three tests at Nanaw's house so he could play with the tablet for a little while.

Wednesday, March 23, 2022

In the morning on Wednesday at Nanaw's house, Chase and Nanaw planned the studying that they would do after school for Chase's tests on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday afternoon, they would study math and social studies. They wouldn't have to do the spelling words again because Chase knows them well. On Thursday afternoon, they'll study for the reading/vocabulary test and social studies test on Friday. On Thursday evening, Chase and Daddy will study for Friday's religion test. Chase did well with his studying with only a minor amount of fussing. Nanaw made him study more math than he thought necessary. He played his clarinet and recorder and did well. Nanaw thinks he's going to be really good in band. Mama said the studying went really well on Thursday evening, and that Rosie Hawmps was giving camel rides to Tee Tee. The horrible first photo below is of Chase looking cross-eyed. It was done at Chase's request. Evidently he and his school friend Cole are practicing being cross-eyed. LOL

Tuesday, March 22, 2022

On the drive to school, Nanaw reminded Chase about the Good Student Practice he was going to do today. "Participate in class. Raise your hand to answer questions if you know the answer. If you don't know the answer, look it up." In the afternoon, Nanaw asked if he participated in science class today, and he said yes, he did. Nanaw was so proud. Chase did his AR reading in the book What Is Easter Island, and Nanaw recorded it in the AR notebook. Chase was excited to show Nanaw the FlipBook thing Mrs. Fetcho taught the students in the art class. Chase was also excited that Mama was fixing Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper for dinner. Mama said she’s making homemade Hamburger Helper for dinner tomorrow night. Chase and Nanaw looked at his grades on Option C, and so far this quarter, he has As in Math, Social Studies and Science. They also looked at the test schedule for the week and figured out when to study for what. Chase was watching a YouTuber on the tablet and was having a great time with it. Nanaw had fun with Chase today; he's the best buddy he could be.

Monday, March 21, 2022

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked if he had his blue hoodie, and he said yes, he did. She asked if it had been in the lost and found but he said no. Mrs. Ettling brought it into his classroom and asked the class if it belonged to anyone. Chase said it was his. So Mama will be very happy that he has it back. At Nanaw's house, Chase and Nanaw looked at his grades and assignments on Option C. The also looked at what upcoming tests he has. They came up with another Good Student Practice, and Nanaw made a 3 x 5 card for: Participate in class. Raise your hand to answer questions if you know the answer. If you don't know the answer, look it up. Nanaw found 14 questions and 10 vocabulary questions for Friday's reading test s those are ready for Chase to study. When Nanaw took Chase home, Mama was getting ready for her dinner with Brady's mom and Hunter's mom.

Sunday, March 20, 2022

Nanaw went over to Chase's house on Sunday afternoon before he went to baseball practice. Nanaw brought along the Uno machine and Uno cards but Chase didn't want to play. He also didn't want to go outside to play with Nanaw. Mama didn't want them to play on Chase's bed because she had just straightened it out. For a little while, they played on Mama's bed with some of Chase's stuffed animals. Then for awhile, they watched women's hockey on television. Finally, Nanaw asked Chase to go out in the field behind his house for a walk and to exterminate leaves. He liked that idea and agreed to go. He wanted Mama to go along, and she said yes, if he would give her a few minutes to finish cleaning, and Chase agreed. Outside, Nanaw and Chase selected sticks but Mama didn't want a stick. It was rough going in the field because of all the brush and sticks on the ground. Nanaw went off on her own for a minute to explore if there's a creek, and there is. The field is supposed to become a park. Nanaw left when it was time for Chase to go to baseball practice. Nanaw drove around the neighborhood to see what the subdivision next to the field is called because that's going to be the name of the park -- the park will be Creekside Park. Cole's house in Gedern Estates is close enough for him to walk to the park. Here's what the web says about the proposed park: "The future Creekside Park is a 17 acre tract located along Rueck Road, situated between Creekside and Wilson Hills subdivisions. Proposed plans for Creekside Park include a 1 acre lake/pond, off-street parking, picnic pavilion, playspace and walking trail." The first picture below is from Chase's school's Facebook page. From the left, Connor, Chase and Katalina.

Saturday, March 19, 2022

Nanaw was so happy that Chase got to come over to her house on Saturday morning. His baseball practice has moved to Sunday at 5 and Wednesday at 6:15. So he'll probably be able to come over every Saturday morning. Nanaw had planned some activities for them to do. She put the Uno machine and the Uno deck of cards on the dining room table. She also got out golf clubs and a ball so they could play hockey in the hall. After Mama left to go to the grocery store, Chase and Nanaw played a game of Uno with the deck of cards -- Chase won so he was happy about that. Then they played Uno with the Uno machine -- and Chase won again, so he was even happier. Nanaw decided to bring the bag of unopened Dollar Tree toys into the dining room for them to play with. Chase played with the little cars and built a tiny Army jeep. He tried to build the tank but had trouble with so he decided to do it another time. Chase and Nanaw played with the slime -- Chase had the yellow slime and Nanaw had the black. Then they played with the excavation toy where they dug through "stone" to find a gem. They never did play hockey. Chase wanted to play Roblox. In the afternoon, Mama, Daddy and Chase went out to Silex to visit Uncle Chris and Elias. Chase was very excited about that. At about 6, Nanaw went to Chase's house to let the dogs out and to feed them. She took pictures of Sam, Sylvester and Tyler to send to Mama.

Friday, March 18, 2022

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he came out with his head down, looking sad. It turned out that he had left his navy hoodie in the gym. So on Monday, he’ll have to go to the lost and found to find it. Nanaw told him about his perfect score on the social studies test — 27 out of 27. Chase was very excited and made all kinds of happy gestures. On the phone call with Mama, she talked to Chase and Nanaw about Mr. Gregson’s visit to Chase’s classroom to talk to the class about bullying. Evidently the 4th grade teachers were informed that there’s bullying going on. Mr. Gregson said it was unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. Chase said no one was bullying him, and he told Mama and Nanaw who the main bully is. Mama and Nanaw told Chase he must always report all bullying to the teachers. At Nanaw’s house, Chase and Nanaw followed his teacher’s recommendation that Chase look at his grades, etc. in Option C. Also he should read the weekly newsletter and look at Homework Central. So they did all that. The point is to put the students in charge of their work, to have them take responsibility for their assignments, grades and everything connected with their schoolwork. So that's what Chase and Nanaw will do each day. The last three photos are selfies that Chase took of himself. LOL

Thursday, March 17, 2022

On Thursday morning, Mama brought along two green shirts for Chase to wear for St. Pat’s Day. He chose the one with the sombrero. It was sort of wrinkled so Nanaw put it in the dryer to get the wrinkles out. At school, Mrs. Whelan had on a shiny green suit and a St. Pat’s green top hat. Chase wore a green St. Pat’s mask that Mama bought last year. When Nanaw picked Chase up after school, he showed Nanaw the new book he was reading for AR. It’s titled Where Is Area 51. Nanaw is going to track his AR reading and testing in a little notebook. Chase got 58 out of 63 on his reading test. Chase and Nanaw went to the little park by the library to play with Will and Brady and all their siblings. They played with the scoop ball and then played soccer. Chase was sort of quiet at the park for some of the time, He's probably still not feeling good from his cough. Back at Nanaw’s house, Chase studied for his social studies test tomorrow.

Wednesday, March 16, 2022

When Chase got to Nanaw's house on Wednesday morning, Mama said he had a barking cough, and he certainly did. Mama had given him some cough medicine but he wasn't sure he wanted the allergy medicine because he said it made him drowsy. But eventually he decided to take it. Mama and Nanaw both asked him to wear his mask today. Mama said Nanaw should be on alert in case he had to come home from school but he didn't. After school when they got to Nanaw's house, Chase did his AR reading, little self-starter that he is. Then he watched Curious George. At 4, they turned off the TV so Chase could study for his reading test tomorrow on the book Frindle. The test is going to be hard because it covers a whole book. Last night, Nanaw printed out lots of questions for Frindle. Chase also brought home a packet of materials to study for the test. They studied everything, and Chase did fairly well. He won't be able to study tonight because he has baseball practice from 6:15 to 7:45.

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

The first picture below is a sweatshirt that Uncle Mile brought to Nanaw's house for Mama on Tuesday afternoon. Sometime on Tuesday, Mama discovered Chase’s science test score from Friday — 18 out of 20. In the morning on the way to school, Nanaw reminded Chase to take notes in class and told him that’s all you do in college. Chase said he might not go to college and he might get drafted for hockey in high school. Nanaw told Daddy about that and he said Chase must have misunderstood what the said last night. He told Chase that sometimes high schools with hockey teams drafted hockey players from high schools that don’t have hockey teams. On the way home from school, Chase told Nanaw he didn’t have any homework; he said he raced against the clock to get it done. LOL He did his AR reading after school. He’s been really good about it. He had Nanaw buy him another Freddy app. Chase is excited about Daylight Saving time because it means he can play outside with Daddy for a longer time.
