When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, they looked over Homework Central on Nanaw's phone. The only homework was for Chase to study for tomorrow's vocabulary test in AR. Chase asked if his friend Will could come over to play, and Nanaw said yes, and that he would have to study for the vocabulary test at home tonight. Will rode to Nanaw's house with Chase and Will. On the pickup call, Will told Mama all about school that day, all the homework he had, and that his tee shirt for tomorrow's field Day was lime green. Chase said his shirt was purple. Later, Mama and Nanaw told each other that they wished Chase would tell them so many things like Will does. Nanaw texted Will's mom to tell her how delightful he is and how much she and Mama enjoyed listening to all that Will has to say. A little after 4:30, Chase and Nanaw took Will home and then Nanaw took Chase home. In the evening, Mama, Daddy and Chase went to Culver's for dinner and then to Sam's to get things for the Sunday Labor Day party at their house. Mama said Chase saw baguettes at Sam's and wanted one so Mama bought him two. Nanaw asked Mama to take a picture of Chase for Days because in the one Nanaw took, Chase's eyes were closed. So that's the picture below. Nanaw hopes that Bread Boy enjoys his baguettes -- he does love bread. Mama has the day off tomorrow so she's taking Chase to school and Nanaw gets to sleep late.

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Chase is getting really good at putting his contacts in all by himself. He gave Nanaw a demonstration, showing her how he could get them in on the first try. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, they went over the things on Homework Central, and he had brought everything he needed with him -- and he had a lot of homework. Some of the things he brought home were assignments he wanted Nanaw to look at -- his answers to science career questions, his vocabulary assignment, and his English assignment about prepositions and adverbs. His most time-consuming assignment was math. He had 25 problems to do on simplifying equations. He and Nanaw each did the problems and then compared their answers. They each missed one problem, but not the same one. They used ChatGPT to check the answers to the problems they missed. Nanaw loves ChatGPT -- it's absolutely wonderful. Chase likes it, too. They also used ChatGPT to prove to Chase that he had the wrong answer to a part of speech question.   The one homework assignment Chase didn't get done was a history paper. He had to compare and contrast two Native American cultural areas. He told Nanaw it was hard and that he would do it tonight, He also had to do his 20 minutes of AR reading tonight. His new, larger backpack is working out well. He had to bring home a big stack of books today, and they all fit well into the backpack.

Tuesday, August 29, 2023

When Chase got to Nanaw's house on Tuesday morning, he announced to her (with a sad face) that he didn't bring any guys. He said Daddy was going to pick him up from school for his doctor's appointment. But he said Nanaw could come to visit, and she could see the guys then. During the day, Mama and Nanaw texted about a larger backpack for Chase so that all his books and computer would fit. Mama found one on Amazon, bought it, and it was delivered in the afternoon. Nanaw said she would take a look at it. Chase texted Nanaw that he and Daddy were back from the doctor, and Nanaw could come visit. Mama wouldn't be there because she was going to Sunset Overlook for the Queen of Hearts fundraiser. Daddy told Nanaw that the doctor said everything was going well with Chase's wrist, and it was healing correctly. He said Chase could be a little more active and maybe play soccer. Daddy said they'd wait a bit for Chase to play in a soccer game; maybe he could start out with soccer practice. Chase and Nanaw did Chase's homework. Nanaw reminded him of the new rules: He needs to bring his homework home so he can go over it and check it and so Mama and Nanaw can look at it. He needs to write his numbers and letters better -- forming them correctly, making them dark enough to read, and not wandering all over the page with them. When the homework was done, they tested out the new backpack. They put the things that Chase had in his old backpack in the new one -- but he hadn't brought home a lot of books and notebooks so they got some books and notebooks from his room. They filled up the backpack, and it was so heavy Chase couldn't lift it. But there were a lot of books in it, more than Chase would probably bring home. So Mama and Nanaw decided the new backpack would do. The second picture below is the backpack.

Monday, August 28, 2023

On Monday morning, when Mama brought Chase to Nanaw's house, she said "Marinara" to him, and they both laughed. Nanaw thought it was random silliness but she later learned that today's lunch at school was toasted ravioli, and Chase was going to get marinara sauce for it. Mama said he tried it last year and liked it so he was going to try it again. Mama had to take her car to Dobb's for an oil change so Nanaw picked her up and took her home. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she had the list of assignments from Homework Central to go over with Chase. He said he had already turned in his math assignment, and he was going to study for the Religion test with Daddy tonight, plus finish his Religion packet assignment. His vocabulary isn't due until Friday, and his Spanish Colombia Culture assignment is due September 8. He said he had finished his Science assignment. So it ended up that the only homework he could do with Nanaw was his 20 minutes of AR reading so he did that. Tomorrow, Daddy is going to pick Chase up from school and take him to his follow-up doctor's appointment to get more information about his cast and broken wrist. The first picture below is from yesterday when Chase was sitting outside putting together a variety of Lego figures.

Sunday, August 27, 2023

On Sunday morning, Daddy and Chase went to church, and Chase isn't going to be serving in church until after his cast was off. During the day, Chase and Mama looked through games to pick games to play at Family Game Night, which they were starting up again. Nanaw was invited for Family Game Night and dinner. For dinner, Daddy grilled chicken: wings for Daddy and Nanaw, and chicken breast for Mama and Chase, plus corn on the cob. While Mama was getting things ready for dinner, Chase ran around quoting silly sayings from one of the games and laughing hilariously. Dinner was delicious, and there were plenty of chicken wings left so both Daddy and Nanaw had leftovers. As their first game for Family Game Night, they chose the game that was making Chase laugh hilariously -- Kids Against Hilarity. The point of the game was to pick the funniest statements and once again, throughout the game, Chase laughed hilariously. Nana won the game, which is a miracle because Nanaw never wins. The next game they played was the game of Life. They only played it about halfway because it was getting late. Everybody totaled up their cash to see who had the most. Mama and Daddy each had $760,000 so they tied. After the games, Mama made a Grimace ice cream shake for Chase with blueberries, raspberries and vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream. Chase ate some of it but gave the rest to Daddy. Then he got on his phone with Hunter to play games, and Nanaw went home.

Saturday, August 26, 2023

On Friday afternoon, Nanaw had decided to stay home this weekend because it was so hot when she would have had to pack up her stuff and then unpack it. On Saturday morning, Chase was supposed to participate in the soccer photo but it was cancelled because of the rain. In the afternoon, Mama invited Nanaw to go with them to Washy's restaurant, and Nanaw said yes, she'd be delighted. She had planned to order a chef's salad with crispy chicken. But when she got there, she saw mini tacos on the menu and decided on that. However, she ordered tiny tacos (a Jack in the Box specialty), and everybody laughed at her. Daddy had a cod sandwich, Mama had a burger, and Chase had cheese bites. After dinner, back at Chase's house, he and Nanaw worked on his math assignment and on correcting his errors on the preposition worksheet. When they were done, they went to Dollar General to get Robux for Chase, Nanaw's gift to him for being so good about his broken wrist. He's going to make a new Roblox avatar: Grimace, a purple figure from McDonald's. When they got back home, Chase and his friend Hunter talked on the phone and played Roblox. Chase made the new Grimace avatar and showed him to Nanaw. The first image below is Chase's new avatar Grimace.

Friday, August 25, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Friday afternoon, it was unbearably hot outside. Fortunately, the weather forecast said the weather would cool off on Saturday. Nanaw had her phone out with Homework Central so they could make sure Chase brought home everything he needed for homework over the weekend. He brought home math for Nanaw to check, the background material for the upcoming Science Fair assignment (Chase told Nanaw he'd picked his topic and told her what it was but she can't remember it so she'll have to ask him again), and the preposition worksheet for correcting. At Nanaw's house, Nanaw went through his math as much as possible. The teacher has given students a new way of doing math assignments. Instead of a math book in which you worked on the assignments, now the students copy the problems from the math textbook into their spiral-bound notebooks and work on them there. Then for some of the assignments, they go over the problems in class but don't turn the papers in. Chase's writing was so illegible that Nanaw couldn't read most of it. For the first half of the assignment, he had circled his answers but the second half was hopeless. Nanaw told Chase they would work on it when she came to visit him on Saturday. They would also work on correcting his preposition worksheet. For dinner, Mama, Daddy and Chase had Domino's for dinner. They had lava cakes for dessert, and Chase really liked the little chocolate cakes. The pictures below show Chase and Mama with Ronnie the Raccoon, one of Mama's stuffed animals from when she was a little girl that Nanaw found downstairs. Nanaw is going to look for Ricky, a gray raccoon.

Thursday, August 24, 2023

Chase changed his mind about working on his eight vocabulary sentences on Thursday morning, in favor of playing on the computer -- of course. Then when Nanaw picked him up from school on Thursday afternoon, he said he'd had time today in class to finish the sentences. He also reported that everybody stayed inside the school today for recess because it was so hot outside. In Physical Education today in the gym, Chase said he got to be the referee for the game they played because of his wrist, so that's a good thing. Chase had math and science homework to work on at Nanaw's house. He got both of them done, and he only missed one problem on his math. On Friday, he has two tests -- a test on the vocabulary words from the assignment that's also due to tomorrow and a test on daily language. Chase was very nice to Nanaw today, telling her she's the best grandma ever and that he likes doing his homework with her -- that made Nanaw feel really good.

Wednesday, August 23, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked how his day went, and he said good. She then asked if he'd just read through the music in Band, and he said he'd actually played the clarinet. He said his fingers worked fine. So that was good news. He turned in his Reading questions but he said they were easy, and he thinks he did okay. He said the only homework he had was Math; both Chase and Nanaw forgot about the eight sentences he still has to write for the Vocabulary assignment due Friday. So now he has to do all eight sentences tomorrow. He wants to try to do some before school and some after school. Both Chase and Nanaw did the Math division problems. Something interesting happened. The assignment was to copy the division problems from the Math book into the Math spiral binder. Chase did that. When it came time to check his answers against Nanaw's, he had trouble finding and reading his answers because his writing is still so bad. It's almost too light to be read, it sprawls all over the place, and he doesn't form his numbers and letters legibly. Nanaw will continue to try to help him get better because one of these days the teachers are going to count his poor writing against his grades. Chase left his phone in the front seat of her car so she dropped it off on her way home from the library. She was happy to see that Chase had gotten a short haircut. She loves it when he has a buzz cut. See the comparison in the two photos below.

Tuesday, August 22, 2023

Chase is doing well with his broken wrist. He wants to do the things he can do himself and accepts help with the things he can't. He's been in a good mood and seems accepting of the whole thing. Nanaw put the following post on Facebook with two photos of Chase with his cast. "Well, the boy broke his left wrist Saturday evening, slamming into a wall at a hockey evaluation. He has to wear a cast for at least a month, and then they’ll re-evaluate it. So that’s it for soccer, fall baseball, and part of the hockey season. He’s handling it wonderfully – not complaining or feeling sorry for himself and accepting help when he needs it. Go, Chase!" He had his friends sign his cast today so that was fun for him. He had some homework that he did after school He's being very grown-up and organized about homework. Nanaw wishes he would do better with his handwriting. They worked on it over the summer but it doesn't seem to have worked. His printing is still too light, too sprawling and too large. Mama and Brady's mom worked at the Queen of Hearts fundraiser this evening, and Daddy and Chase went up to join her. Hopefully, they went into the Sunset Overlook to get out of this awful heat.

Monday, August 21, 2023

Mama and Nanaw helped Chase get dressed this morning because he has trouble doing it with just one hand available. He's being so good and so brave about his broken wrist. Nanaw had offered to carry his backpack into school for him but he said he would be able to do it himself. He did need Nanaw to fasten his seat belt. Mama got an appointment in the orthopedist's office at 1:30, and she picked Chase up at about 1 p.m. After the appointment, Mama called Nanaw to update her. Chase got a cast put on his wrist, and Mama said it was a really fast process. The doctor's office said Chase would have to wear the cast for at least a month. He has a follow-up appointment next week. On their way home from the doctor, Mama and Chase stopped at Walgreens. Mama bought Chase a really cool set of metal Roblox figures. Chase was excited to show Nanaw his camouflage cast; he knows how much Nanaw likes camou stuff on him. Nanaw told him how when he was little, she always wanted Mama to buy camou stuff for him. Chase worked on his vocabulary assignment, and Nanaw checked his math homework. The vocabulary assignment isn't due until Friday so Chase is going to finish it later in the week. Nanaw picked up the Restart book and audiobook at the library so she can read along with Chase. His class has started reading Restart together.

Sunday, August 20, 2023

Daddy and Chase ent to church on Sunday morning, and Chase got to show off his sling and wrist protection. Mama says Chase won't be able to do his regular chores of taking out the trash and feeding Sam and Sylvester but that he'll still get his allowance. She says maybe she can find something for him to do that only takes one hand. This afternoon was the school social in the lower level parking lot but Daddy, Mama and Chase didn't go because it was so hot; the temperature got up to 100 degrees. Mama invited Nanaw over for a steak dinner and corn on the cob. Daddy and Nanaw had rib eye steaks, and Chase and Mama had sirloin steak. After dinner, Chase worked on his extra credit project of coloring in some number squares to take a picture. Mama thought the finished product looked like an own, and Chase and Nanaw agreed. Mama made Chase a kiddy cocktail in her Magic Bullet, and it was quite a hit with Chase. Chase seems to be in a good mood and to be handling his broken wrist well.

Saturday, August 19, 2023

Well, the boy broke his wrist this afternoon at one of his hockey evaluations. Poor boy. He was out skating on the ice, and he swerved to avoid another player and Chase ran into the wall. At first, Daddy was afraid he'd hit his head really hard but it was his wrist. Daddy took Chase to Urgent Care on Tesson Ferry because they have an X-ray machine. Daddy called Mama at Columbia Days in the little park, and Mama left to meet them at Urgent Care. They were hoping that his wrist was just sprained but the X-ray showed that it was broken. The doctor put an elastic bandage on Chase's arm, from his elbow down to his fingers. They also gave Chase a sling to wear so that he doesn't accidentally hit his wrist against something. On Monday, Mama is going to get the name and phone number of an orthopedist so she can set up an appointment for Chase to get a cast put on his wrist. The Urgent Care doctor said Chase would probably have the cast on for about six weeks. They'd have to wait to see what the orthopedist said about when Chase could go back to playing sports. Soccer and fall baseball will be over when the cast comes off, and they'll have to wait to hear about playing hockey.

Friday, August 18, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Friday afternoon, he said his only homework was a color the numbers extra credit assignment that he didn't bring home yesterday. They saw Tanya and Cole on their way to Nanaw's car. Tanya said they'd see Chase at the baseball game that night. But Chase said he couldn't play that night because he had a hockey evaluation. Tanya and Cole said good luck to Chase. Nanaw had to have Chase home by 4 p.m. Mama had gone up to Columbia Days. After the hockey eval, Daddy and Chase went up to Columbia Days. Chase's friends Brady and Hunter were there, and Chase walked around with them. But then the boys went on one of the rides that swirl around and go up and down. Evidently, the ride didn't agree with Chase's stomach so he and Daddy had to go home.

Thursday, August 17, 2023

Unfortunately, Chase lost one of his contacts at Nanaw's house on Thursday morning so he had to use one from the set for the next day. Mama ordered some more contacts and is going to get an emergency supply from the eye doctor. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, he said there was no news about school so Nanaw didn't ask him any questions. They went to Chase's house because he had his first soccer game in the evening at 5 p.m., and they had to leave at 4 p.m. because it was in O'Fallon, Illinois. They lost their game but played well. The team they played were 7th and 8th graders who played better than Chase's team because they were taller and more experienced. After the game, they went to Marie's in Columbia where Nanaw bought them ice cream to celebrate Chase going back to school. Daddy had a chocolate cone, Chase had his Superman cone (plus he got to clean out the vanilla ice cream container and the Superman ice cream container), and Mama and Nanaw got hot fudge sundaes with whipped cream and pecans. Mama had ice cream with some kind of chocolate in it, and Nanaw had vanilla ice cream.

Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Today was Chase's first day in sixth grade. Mama took him to school, and Nanaw picked him up. They both posted his back-to-school photo on Facebook. Mama said: "Chase is ready for the first day of 6th grade!!!" In addition to his first day of school photo, Mama posted the one of Chase with his sixth-grade teacher. In her post, Nanaw wrote: "It's the first day of sixth grade for the contacts-wearing, hockey, soccer and baseball-playing Chase! Go, Chase!" When Nanaw picked Chase up, he said the day went well, and he didn't have any homework. They had full band today but Chase and a lot of the other students didn't remember to bring their instruments to school. Chase will take his clarinet on Friday when they have band again. He said the worst thing about the sixth-grade classrooms are that they're the farthest ones away from the restrooms. He wore his contacts to school, and one of them popped out. He was on his way to the school secretary to have her help him put it back in (evidently she's the school expert on contacts) when he decided to try it himself. He stopped at his locker and used some kind of mirror there and managed to get it back in. After school, Chase and Nanaw met Brady, Emma and Debbie at the little park by the library and stayed till four p.m. Chase had soccer practice tonight and his first soccer game tomorrow afternoon in O'Fallon, Illinois. The first picture below is last year's first day of fifth-grade photo with Chase Lars and Tee Tee; Mama had to take it inside because it was raining. The second picture is Chase on the deck, which is where Mama usually takes the back-to-school photos. The third picture is Chase on the deck with Tee Tee.

Tuesday, August 15, 2023

Mama had the day off work on Tuesday, the day before Chase returns to school, so that they could have an adventure. Nanaw was invited, too. First, they went to the Columbia Bottoms nature preserve to see the sunflowers. Unfortunately, they were too late and only got to see a few sunflowers. The same thing happened last year. Uncle Mike told Nanaw he and Aunt Becky went in the middle of July to see them, and they saw lots of them. After the sunflower trip, they stopped at the Jack in the Box at Grandview Plaza for lunch. Chase had onion rings and Tiny Tacos; Mama had two tacos and a chicken sandwich; Nanaw had Tiny Tacos. Chase shared his onion rings with Mama and Nanaw. Next, they went to the Transportation Museum (known by Chase as the Train House) at Chase's request. They went to see the trains you can walk through -- the one that makes a lot of noise when you walk through it, and which Nanaw thought was the milk car. It was really the Monsanto train car that carried acid. Mama found the real milk car, and they went to see it. After going through the trains, they went to ride the train. They found all of the ten Owney the dog bones and were very proud of themselves. They went through the little garden twice, once before the train and once after. They found the painted rocks both times, and then hid them again. After the Train House, they went to Wally's. Miracle of miracles, they had stuffed lemurs again, just like Hank so Nanaw bought another one, and Chase named him Frank. Mama is going to take Chase to school tomorrow, and Nanaw will pick him up. Chase and Nanaw may go to the little park if any of Chase's friends can go.

Monday, August 14, 2023

Chase was very excited about getting back his access to devices at Nanaw's house. He immediately started playing games on his phone. Nanaw put a Welcome Back sign on his computer, and he liked that. Nanaw and Chase went for their last summer vacation morning walk, and Chase was delighted to see that someone had taken the David Baldacci book Nanaw contributed to the little library book box. Someone had left two boxes of young children's books there. The kitty wasn't out so they didn't get to say goodbye to him/her. At noon, Nanaw took Chase to his house because she had a doctor's appointment. She picked him up at two o'clock, and they went to the little playground to fly the drone but it had a propeller problem and wouldn't work. Nanaw will see if she can fix it. Mama picked Chase up at 3:45 for his eye doctor's appointment. In the evening, was Meet the Teacher at Chase's school. The second picture is Chase with his sixth-grade teacher. The third picture is Chase and his friends Will and Joey with the other sixth-grade teacher. The fourth picture is Mama with the principal; Mama says she forced him to take a selfie with her. LOL

Sunday, August 13, 2023

Daddy and Chase went to church on Sunday morning. Mama had considered taking Chase to the Columbia pool in the afternoon but it was cloudy out and rain was in the weather forecast so they didn't go. Mama fixed roast beef and her wonderful rice dish for dinner and invited Nanaw over. Mama wanted Chase to learn to cut his own roast beef so she gave him a steak knife to use and a lesson on how to cut up meat. He did fairly well with it and ate all his roast beef. At first, he didn't want to eat his rice but Mama sprinkled some of the crispy onion rings on it so he ate all of it. In the evening, Chase, Mama and Nanaw had an adventure at the Magic House. It was one of the St. Louis County Library nights at the Magic House from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Chase won three tickets through the summer reading program. They visited most of his favorite things. In the hall by the entrance, there was a big Lego display, so Chase stopped for a moment to play there. Then he went to the science lab. There he tried out the magnets. Mama and Nanaw did the magnets too. Then he played in the sand that makes all kinds of geography things. Next, he did the Lego racing cars. Then came the market where he and Nanaw selected lots of bread. Tee Tee and Lars went with them in Nanaw's bag, and every once in a while, they poked their heads out. Other displays they visited were: the pizza restaurant, the new soccer training facility where Chase spent a long time kicking a soccer ball into a computerized soccer goal, and the rooms with all the balls and tracks. It was a great trip to the Magic House, and it might be Chase's last one because he'll be 12 in December.

Saturday, August 12, 2023

On Saturday around noon, Daddy had to go to Home Depot; Mama and Chase went along with him so that they could all have lunch at La Fiesta, one of their favorite places. In the afternoon, they went to Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky's house to go swimming. Chase hadn't been swimming there all summer. He had a great time in the pool, playing with the German Shepherds, Cheyenne and Apache. The dogs love for someone to throw their balls out into the yard for them to chase. Nanaw came back from the little house by way of highway 70 so she could go see Chase swimming. Uncle Mike grilled yummy hamburgers and hot dogs. Nanaw ate lots of macaroni salad, which she loves. They also had watermelon, mac and cheese, chips and dips, and Mama's desserts. Mama made Chase's favorite dessert, chocolate cream pie, and also blueberry dump cake. Everything was delicious. After dinner, Daddy and Chase went downstairs to play ping pong, and Nanaw went down to watch them. After a while, everyone ended up in the breezeway watching the Cardinals game -- and the Cards won! Yay!

Friday, August 11, 2023

Daddy had the day off from work on Friday so he and Chase had some adventures. First, they went to Arnold for a hockey lesson for Chase. Next, they bought a new hockey stick for Chase so he has a backup. After lunch, they went to the Columbia pool for two hours. Then Daddy took Chase over to Nanaw’s house. Nanaw asked Daddy if he could take a look at Nanaw’s printer to see if he could figure out how to correctly reinsert the parts Nanaw removed to fix a paper jam in the printer. And Daddy was able to fix it. Nanaw was so excited even though she’d bought another printer. So now she has a backup printer like Chase has a backup hockey stick. Chase and Nanaw’s afternoon adventure was going to the Powder Valley Conservation Center, one of their favorite places. They went to visit their favorite displays and enjoyed everything. The one thing they didn’t get to see was the turtle who shares the aquarium with the fish. Sometimes he buries himself completely under the gravel, and you can’t see him. Nanaw took Chase home at four so he could work on putting in his contacts for his baseball game. It was the first time he wore them for a game, and Mama says they worked out really well and people noticed that he was doing better at hitting, fielding and catching with his contacts in. Chase’s team won their first game of Fall Ball 12 to 2, and Chase went 1 for 2.

Thursday, August 10, 2023

Chase and Nanaw had breakfast before their morning walk. On the walk, Chase took along his new lemur, Simon, and his cool red remote control car. While Nanaw napped, Chase got out all his kinetic sand and built a kinetic world on the kitchen counter. Besides the kinetic sand, he filled his world with lots of his little cars. Chase did one of his baseball training requirements: doing 15 tosses of a small towel to simulate throwing a ball. After lunch, Chase and Nanaw took the drone to the little playground. Unfortunately, the drone wouldn't fly because it needed to be charged. They took it back home to charge. The plan was to go back to the playground after school when the drone was charged. But Chase changed his mind and didn't want to go. So they're planning on doing that on Monday. School didn't go too well because Chase had trouble with the decimals test. The last time he took it, he scored 100%. This time, he missed five problems out of 26. The first time he took it with Nanaw, he missed three problems out of 26. When he took it in school, he missed 10 out of 26, so at least he's doing better. Hopefully, he'll do all right when they go back to studying decimals in school. He did well this summer on the practice decimal problems so Nanaw isn't sure what exactly happened. Tomorrow, Daddy has the day off. Chase has a hockey lesson, then he thinks he and Daddy might go golfing. Nanaw will hopefully get to see Chase before she leaves for the little house.

Wednesday, August 9, 2023

Chase and Nanaw took their morning walk before breakfast on Wednesday. Lars the stuffed lemur went with them, as did Chase's police remote-controlled car. For breakfast, Chase had one of the blueberry Pop-Tarts they bought at Red Roof yesterday when they got the worms for fishing. He says he's going to have the other Pop-Tart Thursday morning. After breakfast, they went downstairs to walk on the treadmill and ride the exercise bike. Then they went upstairs, and Chase watched Captain Underpants for a while. Chase had asked Nanaw if they could play with the drone that Mama bought for her a few years ago at Christmas, so Nanaw got it out. They charged the drone itself and put six new batteries in the controller. When the drone was charged, they set it up but couldn't seem to make it work. They tried and tried but it wouldn’t do what it was supposed to do. So Nanaw looked online and watched videos and saw what the problem was. They had the drone upside down. LOL As soon as they turned it right side up, and pressed the controller buttons, it started to fly. They took it outside and had a wonderful time flying it. There were some crashes into the house and one faraway crash in somebody's driveway but there was no damage to the drone. Tomorrow, they're going to the playground area in Nanaw's subdivision where there are no trees or houses or anything so they can fly it all around. Maybe Chase will let Nanaw fly her drone. After school, at Chase's request, Nanaw got out all of Chase's Play Dough things for them to play with. First, they went through all the Play Dough containers to throw out the Play Dough that had dried up, then they played with it.

Tuesday, August 8, 2023

After breakfast on Tuesday morning, Nanaw and Chase went for their first morning walk since last Tuesday. It's rained every morning since then till today. Chase spent a lot of time on Tuesday working with his contacts. He wanted to be able to wear them for baseball practice Tuesday evening. Baseball is his main incentive for doing the contacts. He has sports glasses to wear when playing baseball but they slip around all the time, and he can't wear his sunglasses. He and Nanaw went over to his house around noon, and he got the contacts in, and everybody was very happy about that. But back at Nanaw's house, he had trouble. He thought his left contact had fallen out so Mama said to take the right one out and throw it away. But it turned out that the left one was still in there but he took it out. The afternoon adventure was going fishing in Nanaw's lake. On the way back from Chase's house, they went to Red Roof and Nanaw bought worms, for the first time in her life. Last night, Uncle Mike had fixed a fishing pole for Nanaw, and Chase had his stored in Nanaw's garage. Unfortunately, by the time they got to the lake, Nana's fishing line got all tangled up, and she couldn't fish. But Chase's rod and reel were fine so he fished for a while. Nanaw is going to fix her pole so they can go fishing again. The first photo is from last year's visit to Lemur Land at the Zoo. The last thing is a video Chase took of him removing the contacts.

Just as Chase and Nanaw were ready to head out for their Monday morning walk, it started to rain. So they did their backup plan of going downstairs to ride the exercise bike, walk on the treadmill and do the list of exercises. For breakfast, Chase had some cinnamon toast crunch cereal that Nanaw bought him as a special treat. Nanaw had some also because it's yummy and tastes like cinnamon toast. Before school, Chase went outside to practice his pitching and batting, and Nanaw went outside to watch him. They looked up a list of baseball pitches, and then Chase demonstrated the pitches to Nanaw. Then Chase did a batting test, trying out different bats to see how far he could hit the ball. For lunch, Chase had some of Nanaw's spaghetti, strawberries, provel cheese and a mozzarella stick. Chase got all his schoolwork done half an hour early so he got to go watch Captain Underpants on Netflix. Mama came to pick Chase up at 4 p.m. for his eye doctor appointment for more contact training. Nanaw went to Grant's View library to check out Captain Underpants books for Chase. They had four of them so Nanaw checked them all out, as shown in the second picture below. When Nanaw got home from the library, she got a text from Chase saying he got his contacts in. Nanaw was so happy for him, and she sent him a congratulations text.

Chase and Daddy went to church on Sunday morning, and Brady's mom sat with them. Brady and Emma and their dad weren't there. After church, Daddy and Chase came over to Nanaw's house so Daddy could fix her running toilet. He fixed it, and Nanaw was very happy. Mama, Daddy and Chase went out to Silex to visit Elias, Uncle Chris, Aunt Kristen, Uncle Will-Bill and Cesi. Chase had a series of excellent adventures with Elias. First, they played a video game, MLB 2023. Then they played Wiffle ball and practiced their pitching. Next, they went swimming. Then they went fishing. Chase caught a little fish, and Elias caught a big bass. Obviously, Chase had a wonderful time with his cousin. Nanaw came to visit Chase when they got back from Elias's house. They played with the guys until dinner was ready. Daddy fixed burgers for dinner, and Mama made mac and cheese for Chase's side. After dinner, Nanaw conducted a taste test for Mama and Chase with white fudge-covered pretzels and chocolate covered pretzels. There were two objectives: the first was to eat them with closed eyes and tell which was which. The second was to say which one you liked best. Mama and Chase both gave the right answer about which one they were eating. They both chose the chocolate-covered pretzels as their favorites. After the taste test, Chase and Nanaw went back to his room to play with the guys. On his own, Chase said somebody needed to have a sleepover tonight with Nanaw, and Chase chose Pepper. When Nanaw got home, she took a picture of Pepper with Love Hugs, and sent it to Chase telling him Pepper and Love Hugs were going to sleep with Nanaw tonight.
