Tuesday, February 28. 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Tuesday, she had the list of assignments from Homework Central. Chase said the only things he had to have done for tomorrow were the Spanish worksheet for telling time and studying the vocabulary for Friday’s quiz. Chase was in a really good, fun mood and Nanaw loved that. Nanaw thawed his Sonic Blast and Chase ate part of it. Chase and Nanaw worked on the notes for this week’s Weekly Writing. Chase chose the topic of his ten favorite foods. He and Mama will finish it tomorrow night. He has to put the 10 favorite foods in order. At Chase’s house when Nanaw took him home, Chase’s delightful mood continued. It would be great if he could be that happy all the time. On Saturday, his hockey team, coaches and parents are going to have a family skating exercise. Mama says she's not going to skate.

Monday, February 27, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Monday, she had a long list of assignments from Homework Central to ask Chase about. And bless his heart, he had brought home everything he needed, and he didn't need to go back into school to get anything. While he was doing his math homework, he was also eating Jello. When Nanaw checked his math, she found a little note to the teacher at the bottom of the page saying, "Sorry for the stain. I was eating Jello." What a funny bug he is. He finally got the grade for the math test he had last Thursday. He got a 95, which brought his math grade up from a C to a B. Yay! Daddy came to pick Chase up at 4:30 for baseball practice, followed by hockey practice. Nanaw discovered that she'd forgotten to put Lars and Tee Tee in the bag of guys so in the evening she took them over to Chase's house. While she was there, she let Sam and Sylvester outside and then gave them lunch meat when they came back in. This was the day Uncle Mike came to install a new kitchen cabinet to replace the broken one. They went to Home Depot in Arnold to get the cabinet. Uncle Mike is Nanaw's hero! This was also the day that Nanaw bought a new little TV for the kitchen -- the other one stopped working.

Sunday, February 26, 2023

On Sunday morning, Chase and Nanaw watched more of The Mighty Ducks movie before Daddy came to pick Chase up for church but they're still not finished with the movie. Nanaw told Chase thank you for a wonderful sleepover. Nanaw hadn't planned on going to visit Chase Sunday evening because she'd already seen him in the morning. But then she thought about it and decided to go visit Mama and hear all about the Dinner Auction. So that's what she did. Mama and Daddy showed Nanaw the things they bid on at the auction -- a pet basket, a whiskey box and lots of other stuff, including a new wheelbarrow. Mama had heated up some bacon-wrapped Smokies and Nanaw ate lots of them. Nanaw also had bacon; Mama, Daddy and Chase had waffles and bacon for dinner. Nanaw watched Chase play his Magna hockey game. He said he played field hockey outside today, and Nanaw said sometime they could play field hockey at her house with his nets. Chase said he only had one field hockey stick, so Nanaw said she could use one of Chase's plastic golf clubs. Chase wanted to play hockey on his bed with his stuffed animals. They introduced Leo the Lion and Douglas III (a puppy to the other guys. Both of them came from the dinner auction.

Saturday. February 25, 2023

Chase had a busy day on Saturday. In the morning, he went to Cole’s birthday party at Urban Aire. Friends of his that came included Hunter, Brady, Connor and Shawn. Chase said he had a good time at the party. computer. Then in the afternoon, he had a hockey game. For some reason, the goalie on Chase’s team wanted the team to dress up so they did, as shown in the picture below. Then in the evening, Chase had a sleepover at Nanaw’s house. When Daddy and Chase got to Nanaw’s house, she told Chase that none of the hockey watch games he wanted to watch were on her cable channels. So Daddy signed onto his ESPN app on Nanaw’s computer so that Chase could watch the hockey games he wanted to watch. A little before six, they went to Taco Bell and Sonic to get their dinner. Then they ate their dinner in the dining room. After dinner Chase went in the computer lab to watch hockey and play on the computer. Next, Chase and Nanaw played hockey in the hall. Nanaw made Chase stay on his feet and not throw himself in front of the net so she could score goals. At nine Chase wanted to take his bath. It was a wonderful sleepover and made Nanaw very happy.

Friday, February 24, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he didn't have any homework and that made him very happy. He wanted to look up his grades on Facts to see if he made a good enough grade on one of his tests to get his Robux. But the username and password weren't on either of Nanaw's phones so they had to wait until they got home. Chase found that his English grade was posted but it wasn't very good -- 29 out of 33 for 87%. The test paper was in his backpack, and he got everything correct except for three weird questions that even Nanaw didn't understand. If it hadn't been for those three questions, he would have gotten a 100. So Nanaw asked Mama if it would be all right to get the Robux for Chase on a technicality. Mama said yes, so Nanaw will go get Robux tomorrow. Nanaw is very excited about Chase's sleepover Saturday night. He's going to have Sonic for dinner and Nanaw is going to have a Crunchwrap Supreme  from Taco Bell. They're going to watch a hockey game in the living room and a hockey movie (The Mighty Ducks) in the computer lab. Chase said they watched the movie Wonder today at school, and he really liked it.

Thursday, February 23, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he was very excited that he didn't have any homework. He asked if Will could come over to play with him, and Nanaw said yes. It took a while for Will to arrive, and Chase was afraid he wasn't coming. When Will showed up, Chase was very happy. They played soccer in the front yard for a long time. Then they came inside and played knee hockey in the hall. Chase really enjoyed that. After that, they sat at the computer with Chase showing Will all kinds of things. When it was time to take Chase home and for Will to leave, Chase wanted him to stay but Nanaw said it was time. Before they left, Nanaw tried to take a picture of Chase but he decided he wanted to take a selfie so he did. When Nanaw took Chase home, Mama wasn’t there. Chase asked where she was, then said "Three nights in a row." Daddy told him Mama was out having dinner with Auntie LaLa. Then Chase said, "Do we have to have sandwiches again tonight?" Daddy said, no, they were having Cheese Burger Hamburger Helper, and that made Chase happy.

Wednesday, February 22, 2023

Right before Nanaw went to pick up Chase from school, she checked Homework Central to see if anything had changed and it had. Chase's teacher changed the verb unit test from Wednesday to Thursday. When she picked Chase up, he told her he also had a math test tomorrow, which wasn't on Homework Central. He hadn't brought his verb materials to study for the test tomorrow so Nanaw had him go back into the school to get them. It was raining so she got his umbrella out of his backpack, and he went back into school without much fuss. At Nanaw's house, they did a lot of studying for both tests. First, they studied for the math test, concentrating on ordered pairs and order of operation. Chase also looked through his math book to study other things there. Then they studied for the verb unit test in English. Nanaw had Chase do a couple of worksheets; then she had him read his verb notes out loud to her. He says he feels confident about the English test but not as much about math.

Tuesday, February 21, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she made sure he had brought home the materials to study for the verb unit test tomorrow in English. He said he also had math homework. First, Chase did his math homework, and Nanaw checked it. She had him redo some of the problems. Then they spent a long time studying verbs. Nanaw printed out several worksheets about past, present and future perfect tense verbs, and Chase did well on them. Chase had four or five pages of notes in his English notebook, and they went over them. There was a lot of information on those pages, and Nanaw convinced Chase that he had to go over them again tonight, along with his AR reading. Mama had a hair appointment tonight so Nanaw didn't get to see her when she took Chase home. Nanaw told Chase that Mama said Chase had to earn the Robux that he wanted Nanaw to buy for him. So Nanaw told Chase that if got an A (94 or more) on his verb unit test, she would buy the Robux for him.

Monday, February 20, 2023

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Monday morning while she went to the grocery store. The idea was for Chase to do his three out of four things of homework with Nanaw -- he really had a lot of homework over a holiday weekend. He finished The Sign of the Beaver homework last night at his house with Nanaw. First, he did his wonder questions. Nanaw was able to correct one of his answers because she had read that part of the book. Now she read it to the end and will start back at the beginning and read the whole book. She's very excited about doing this reading of the books thing with Chase and can't wait to find out what the next two books are. After Wonder, they finished his math and then he did his science. For science, he made a slide show and shared it with his teacher. In the afternoon, he played on the trampoline and then played basketball with Daddy. (Mama sent pictures of him playing basketball.) In the evening he had baseball practice and then hockey practice. (Mama sent a picture of Chase in his baseball practice outfit to Nanaw.) Nanaw discovered that Chase had changed the colors on her computer again. Now it's green. First, it was blue and then he tried purple. He hasn't shown Nanaw how to change the colors back so they'll do that tomorrow.

Sunday, February 19, 2023

Chase had two hockey games in the tournament on Sunday -- one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  His team lost both of the games but Mama said the team really hustled and in the second game, Chase skated faster than she'd ever seen him skate. Mama invited Nanaw over for Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner -- Nanaw's favorite. Nanaw volunteered to ride along with Mama to get the chicken but Mama said Nanaw should stay and have bug time. Nanaw went downstairs to watch Chase play knee hockey by himself. She took some of his stuffed animals downstairs with them, which make Chase happy. Tyler came downstairs also and made sure that Nanaw petted him a lot. The KFC was delicious. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw worked on his The Sign of the Beaver homework -- it was a vocabulary packet. Nanaw told Chase what fun she was having reading his Wonder book and reading the homework he'd done for the book. She's going to do that same thing with the rest of the books they read this year. Tomorrow morning, Mama is going to bring Chase over to Nanaw's house while she goes to the grocery store. Chase and Nanaw will do the rest of his homework (he has a lot) and then Nanaw will take him back home.

Saturday, February 18, 2023

On Saturday, Chase's hockey team had two games in a tournament -- one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Mama said they lost the morning game but that the boys really hustled. She had invited Nanaw to go to the game in the afternoon in Fenton. Mama picked Nanaw up to go to the game. Nanaw wore her warmest coat and took along her warmest blanket -- it's very cold in the ice rink. Chase's team played the girls' team again; Nanaw had seen another game with the girls' team in Fenton. One of the girls on the girls' team is Poppy, a classmate of Chase's at school. Chase's team hustled again but were losing 4 to 0 when Chase's big chance came. With only a few minutes left in the game, Chase scored an unassisted goal -- sending Mama, Daddy and Nanaw through the roof with pride. Chase skated close to where they were sitting and gave Mama a salute -- the cutest thing in the world. Everybody cheered and congratulated Mama, Daddy and Chase. Nanaw was so excited that she got to see Chase scoring the goal. After the game, Daddy got the puck for Chase. Somebody suggested using a silver Sharpie to write the date, the team and the location on it. In the evening, Nanaw went to visit Chase, and everybody went downstairs to watch a Stadium hockey game.

Friday, February 17, 2023

Mama and Daddy had the day off on Friday so Mama took Chase to school, and Nanaw slept in. In the afternoon, Nanaw went over to Mama's house and then rode with her to school to pick up Chase. They were also picking up Chase's friend Hunter because his Mama had to take his brother to an appointment. When Nanaw saw Chase, she checked with him to make sure he'd brought home the four homework projects that he had to do over the weekend: The Sign of the Beaver vocabulary packet; the science Design Challenge; the Wonder questions and vocabulary; and the math ordered pairs packet. Chase said he had everything (Nanaw double-checked in his backpack when they got home, and he did have everything.) Chase was excited to have Hunter come home with him. Mama gave them pretzel bites and soda as a snack. Then they went downstairs to play knee hockey. Nanaw went along to watch them and took Chase's math packet with her so she could figure out how to do ordered pairs. Nanaw loves math. After they played hockey, Hunter and Chase went upstairs and played Xbox, and Nanaw went home.

Thursday, February 16, 2023

After school on Thursday, Chase had server training at church. So Nanaw didn't pick him up until 3:45. He came running out of the church to Nanaw's car and yelled with a smile on his face, "It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!” His best friend Joey plus Hunter were at server training also, and Chase liked that. Nanaw brought Milky Way minis in the little Valentine candy box, as Chase suggested. He was so happy for the treats on the way home. He was also excited that he didn't have any homework and could play on the computer. Mama called to say that Max, one of the team members from Chase's hockey team was going to ride with them to Saturday afternoon's hockey game. Chase liked that and wondered if Max could come a little early so they could play knee hockey together. Chase has lots of homework due next Tuesday. (They don't have school on Monday for Presidents Day.) He has a vocabulary packet for The Sign of the Beaver due Tuesday. In science, he has a design challenge due Tuesday. In reading, he has Wonder questions and vocabulary up to page 270 but no due date was listed. He also has a math assignment due Tuesday -- Order Pairs Packet.

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

Chase and Nanaw went through his vocabulary words one more time on Wednesday morning before Nanaw took him to school. (In the afternoon, Chase told Nanaw that his teacher only had them do the front side of the vocabulary quiz because she felt sorry for them. Chase got 12 out of 12.) It was sort of a mess when Nanaw picked Chase up from school. He had forgotten his Weekly Writing packet so Nanaw had him go back into school. Then when they were in the car, Nanaw told him he had a vocabulary quiz tomorrow and asked if he had his study materials. He said he didn't know about the quiz and hadn't brought his notebook. So they drove back to the front of the school, and Chase went inside to get his notebook. Chase is not paying attention to Homework Central or what the teacher is writing on the board about homework and quizzes or writing it in his agenda. Nanaw and Mama will keep reinforcing that he needs to be on top of what quizzes, tests, and homework he's supposed to be doing. Until he is doing things himself and can be depended on, Nanaw's job is to look at Homework Central every day before she picks Chase up from school and make notes on what homework and tests he has and make sure he brings home all the materials he needs. At Nanaw's house, he did his history homework, and he and Nanaw studied the vocabulary words for tomorrow's quiz. They'll go over the words once more on Thursday morning before school. When they were getting ready to go to Chase's house, Chase said Nanaw was the best grandma in the world. So Nanaw gave him a big hug.

Happy Valentine's Day!! Tuesday, February 14, 2023

When Chase came to Nanaw's house on Valentine's Day, he handed her the beautiful Tropicana roses Mama bought for her at Schnuck's. Nanaw told Chase he would get his Valentine's bag when he got home from school. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her he had math homework and had to study for a vocabulary quiz on Wednesday. The math homework was fun but hard. You had to put together pieces of a math puzzle that would end up a heart. You had to do the decimal addition problems on the puzzle pieces to figure out where they would go. Chase had fun with it and was so excited when it started to look like a heart (picture below). They went over and over the vocabulary words, and Nanaw thinks Chase knew them. Chase made a cute Valentine for Mama and Daddy (pictures below)..  He really liked his Valentine's bag and ate some of the candy and played with the Hot Wheels. It rained a little so there was a rainbow that Nanaw took a picture of. Other people, including Mama, saw a double rainbow (picture below). Nanaw went to Chase's house for a delicious Valentine's dinner of steak, Mama's wonderful rice and Caesar salad. Mama gave Nanaw a Valentine's card with an Amazon gift card. Nanaw gave Mama a Valentine's bag with candy and a dog scarf. Chase got a big bag of candy from Mama and Daddy and a gift card for some VR games. It was a great Valentine's Day.

Monday, February 13, 2023

Nanaw was so happy to see Chase when Mama brought him over to her house on Monday morning. She missed him over the weekend. When Chase came home from school, he said he had lots of homework. He had to do the questions for Wonder. He had a quiz on Tuesday for the Wonder vocabulary words that he had to study for. He had to study for a religion test but unfortunately, he didn't bring his study guide home. He said he hadn't had time to fill it out so he left it at school. Nanaw told him that next time if something like that happens, he should bring it home and fill it out there. They studied the test at the end of the religion chapter, and Chase knew the answers to the questions, and hopefully, that will help. One of the moms texted a copy of the study guide but it was illegible so it didn't help. Nanaw went over and over the vocabulary words, and Chase seemed to know them. Daddy picked Chase up at 4:30 to go to baseball practice and then hockey practice. He was also supposed to go to dry land hockey practice after regular hockey practice but Daddy said he should skip that and study his religion and vocabulary when they got home. He got 18 out of 20 on the religion test and 7 out of 10 on the quiz. The first photo below is from Sunday night. Chase and Nanaw were downstairs watching the Super Bowl and Chase played Hoverboard Hockey for Nanaw.

Friday, February 10 2023 to Sunday, February 12, 2023

Mama and Chase brought Sam and Sylvester over to Nanaw's house on Friday morning. Nanaw told Chase she would miss him lots while he's gone on his trip to his hockey tournament in Chicago. They left for Chicago at about 10, and Mama said they got there about 1:50. On the way, they stopped at a Wally's and ran into another hockey family. Chase ate lots of snacks on the road trip until Mama and Daddy said enough. At the hotel, the coach's wife had brought along the door hangers (picture below) she bought for the families, and the coaches put them on everybody's door. On Friday, they went to the Caddyshack for a snack and then went and watched a hockey game with the coach's other son. Then they got carryout and went to Chase's game. They lost the game but the boys hustled. They slept till 8 a.m. Saturday morning -- unheard of! Chase's game on Saturday was at 12:30, and then there was a rowdy team lunch at Giordano's, and then they were free. Chase and Daddy talked about going to the aquarium but it closes at 5 p.m. and it's 30 minutes away so they didn't go.. Later in the afternoon, Mama walked on the treadmill while she watched Chase and his friends swim. Then the kids and the parents went to a conference room where the kids were playing knee hockey, and the parents were having beers. Chase had another hockey game on Sunday morning, and then Mama, Daddy and Chase left for home. When Nanaw saw Chase on Sunday evening, he said he had a great time in Chicago and wanted to go back someday.

Thursday, February 9. 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school on Thursday afternoon, she asked him if he had brought home the study materials for his history test on Monday and the vocabulary packet he was supposed to turn in Monday, and he said he had. He had done all the other assignments listed on Homework Central. On the way home, they had a conversation about Chase's grades and studying. Chase said maybe fifth grade was getting harder and harder. Nanaw said maybe those two really low test grades he got were just anomalies and the low grades wouldn't occur again. Nanaw said they would just keep studying as much as they could. They worked on the vocabulary packet he has to turn in Monday. Nanaw made a copy of it in case he forgot to bring it home when it came time for a test. Then they studied the materials for his history test, which he'll have to take on Monday. It was about China and was very interesting. He was very happy to have Skinny Pop popcorn for a snack. Nanaw asked if he was excited about his trip to Chicago for a hockey tournament in an outdoor rink. He said yes. Mama is bringing the dogs over to Nanaw's tomorrow morning. Nanaw asked if she could bring Chase so she could say good-bye, and Mama said she was planning to. Nanaw forgot to take a picture of Chase today so Mama took a picture of him asleep.

Wednesday, February 8, 2023

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked if he had everything he needed for homework, and he said yes. He only had AR reading and weekly writing to do. Nanaw asked if he wanted to do weekly writing with her or with Mama, and he said he wanted to do it the way they did last time. He wanted to have Nanaw and him go over the topic and talk about it and write down notes. Then he and Mama would go through the notes, and he would write the two paragraphs. So that's what they did. After his homework was done, Chase and Nanaw played with some of Chase's toys and his stuffed animals, then Chase played on the computer. Later in the evening, Mama texted Nanaw that Chase got a B- in AR. Nanaw looked at his grades and saw that he has a C in math. Nanaw suggested that Mama talk to his two teachers and see what can be done to help him with his studying.

Tuesday, February 7, 2023

Nanaw reminded Chase to go to the Lost and Found and look for his lunch box when she dropped him off at school on Tuesday morning. He said he would. When Nanaw picked him up after school, that was the first thing she asked him about. And he had remembered. He also remembered to bring his math homework home and he'd finished everything else in class. But he said he had forgotten an envelope, and he went right back into school with no protests or anything. Nanaw told him she'd be right there waiting for him. When they got to Nanaw's house, they worked on his math homework together. The math was order of operations and Chase taught Nanaw how you followed PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right). They had 28 problems to do, and Chase got some wrong and Nanaw got some wrong but together they managed to get them all correct. They did one decimal problem; they're going to do one decimal problem a day until change knows decimals. This morning Mama told Nanaw how on the ride over to her house, Chase thanked her for being such a smart Mama and helping him with his homework. Then Chase said he would have to thank his very smart Nanaw also. The other day he said his math grade would be worse if he didn't have Nanaw to help him with it. Nanaw can't wait till they get to calculus. Nanaw's Christmas tree is coming down this week so Nanaw took one last picture of Chase in front of it.
