Happy Halloween! Thursday, October 31, 2019

Mama had the day off for Halloween so she took Chase to school and picked him up from school. When Chase got home from school, Nanaw came over to celebrate Halloween. She brought a Halloween present for Chase: nine Hot Wheels to take to Rockbridge, a Halloween card for grandson and $5 for a Dollar Tree adventure. Chase and Nanaw played with the Hot Wheels before dinner and watched part of the Halloween movie. Chase and Mama had a Halloween pizza from Papa Murphy's for dinner, and Daddy and Nanaw had Mama's delicious chili. Nanaw helped Chase put on his Thanos costume for trick or treating. Mama, Daddy and Chase went trick or treating first, while Nanaw handed out candy. It was really cold outside, in the 30s but Chase didn't seem to mind. Mama, Daddy and Nanaw bundled up in lots of layers to keep warm. Chase seemed to have a great time trick or treating, despite a few complaints. He liked giving out candy also. Mama, Chase and Nanaw went back out They went to a lot of Mama's favorites, including Alaina's grandparents, someone that works where Mama works and the dog Iris's family. Chase was really good on his second jaunt. He told jokes and had lots of fun. Camden, one of his friends from school went with us for a little while, and Chase enjoyed that. It was a super great Halloween, and Nanaw had a great time.

Chase wished his Mama and Daddy a happy anniversary this morning. Mama asked Nanaw to get Chase home by 5:15 or earlier so that Chase can do his reading homework. At Nanaw's house, Chase very easily buttoned his pants. Nanaw congratulated him on it, and Chase said, "I'm the button master!" When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her that William said it was snowing -- but it wasn't. Then Chase told Nanaw that the class played Four Corners again but this time there wasn't one tear; even though he lost again, he didn’t cry. He said he felt like crying but he saved himself from crying. On the pickup call on the way home, Chase told Mama and Nanaw about their science experiment of dissecting owl pellets and finding bones. Chase said the brought the pellet and the bones home in his backpack, and that he had to be careful with them because they were fragile. Mama, Daddy and Chase are going out to dinner at Outback to celebrate Mama and Daddy's anniversary.

Chase's adventure on Tuesday was a big one: He created his first Roblox game on his own. When he got to Nanaw's house on Tuesday morning, he asked Nanaw to open the Roblox Design Studio on her computer. Then he sat down at Nanaw's computer and started creating a Roblox game featuring Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th. When he had to go to school, he told Nanaw to leave her computer open on the game and he would work on it when he got home from school. And that's what he did. He put a very scary looking Jason in the game and four wicked weapons. He also added background music to the game. Nanaw was so proud of him and impressed by what he accomplished. He decided he wanted to wear his Jason mask and hold a rubber knife while he played the game he created so Nanaw got them for him. He was very proud of himself for making the game, and he wanted to make sure that he and Nanaw told Mama and Daddy all about it -- which is exactly what they did.

When Nanaw got to Chase's house on Monday morning, she went into his room and was delighted to see wonderful Sam lying in his special place in Chase's room, with the big stuffed animals. So Nanaw took a picture of Sam, and it's the first one below. When Chase got to his school class room on Monday, morning, he discovered that Mrs. Meyer had moved the desks around in the room. She made the desks into pods of two or three students, rather than four students. Chase was in a two1person pod with Lizzie. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked how he liked sitting next to Lizzie, and he said it was good. He also told Nanaw that at lunch he ate all of his turkey sandwich and all of his chicken soup. Nanaw asked him who he ate lunch with, and he said Cole, Connor and Brady. Mama had sent a bag of candy along for him, so when they got to Nanaw's house she let him have some candy, after he ate his yogurt, applesauce and chocolate milk. In the evening, Mama texted Nanaw that Chase had told Mama at dinner that her chicken noodle soup was so good he would give her $5 if she made it again for him. What a funny-bunny he is.

Sunday, October 28, 2019

Mr. Chase had two major adventures on Sunday. The first adventure was going to Rescue Readers at Helping Strays in the afternoon with Mama and Nanaw. Lots and lots of people were there, more than at any other times they'd been there for Rescue Readers. There weren't many dogs to read to because most of them were out for an adoption event. Chase read the Biscuit Halloween book to Oscar, a really cute dog. After Oscar, Chase, Mama and Nanaw went to visit the cats. Chase read Pete the Cat's Halloween to the cats. One of the cats listened to Chase reading; it was very cute. Helping Strays had bags of Halloween candy for the boys and girls who came to read to the animals. Chase's second Sunday adventure was going to Trunk r Treat at his school with Mama, Daddy and Nanaw. Chase wore his wonderful Thanos costume and looked appropriately scary. There were lots and lots of people at Trunk r Treat, many more than last year. It might be because Halloween is supposed to be very cold this year. Chase had a great time trick or treating and got lots of candy. He went to play on the school's super playground with his friends and had fun playing with them. Mama and Nanaw went into the Haunted Hallway and got well and truly scared. It was an awesome evening.

On Saturday, Chase went to Bryce's birthday party. It was a roller skating party, and Mama says Chase had a wonderful time. She took a video of him skating, and it looks like he did really well skating. Nanaw was excited about babysitting Chase on Saturday evening while Mama and Daddy went to Uncle Chris's 50th birthday party. Chase came for dinner but first he had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He only ate half of it because he said it had too much jelly on it. So Nanaw then made him a peanut sandwich, and he ate all of it. Nanaw got out lots of toys for Chase to play with in the living room: his action figures, toy soldiers and war vehicles. Plus she got out all the Toy Story toys -- Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Potato Head and Forky. That was because the big event of the evening was watching the Toy Story movie 4 Nanaw bought for Chase. Nanaw made a fire so they would be warm and cozy while they watched the movie. Nanaw made popcorn for Chase but he only ate a little bit of it -- he must have been full of peanut butter.

Chase had the day off school on Friday, and Nanaw planned a special adventure for him: spending the day out at the little house and trying to go to the pumpkin bounce house on Hwy 47. Unfortunately, the bounce house place didn't seem to be open. No cars or people were there when Chase and Nanaw stopped, and Chase didn't want to go in, both on the way and the way back. First, Chase and Nanaw stopped at the Washington Walmart, where Nanaw bought Chase a ukulele. Then they stopped at Dollar Tree in Marthasville, where Nanaw bought Chase a fire truck, a police car and a kazoo. At the little house, Chase played with the ukulele and his big basket of little cars. He also played on the laptop. On the way back home, Chase told Nanaw that it was a fun day. That made her so happy. In the evening, Chase, Mama, and Daddy went to Eckert's with Daddy's cousins and their families. Daddy had to work late so Aunt Becca took Mama and Chase, and Daddy met them there. Nanaw was sure Chase would have a wonderful time playing with his cousin Elias. The last picture is Elias tying Chase's shoe -- very sweet and very cute.

Thursday, October 24, 2019

When Nanaw took Chase to school on Thursday, she noticed that Chase had a new corner book on his desk but now she can't remember the name of the book. She'll ask Chase when she sees him tomorrow. After school, Chase and Nanaw went to the Columbia Library to pick up the hotspot for the Rockbridge trip. Nanaw sent up when they got home, and it works well. However, Nanaw doesn't know if it will help at Rockbridge because there might not be any T-Mobile cell towers close enough for the hotspot to connect to. Chase multitasked after school. He played Kick the Buddy on Nanaw's phone and watch Denis on YouTube at the same time. When Nanaw took Chase home, Mama wasn't there. She and Aunt Becca went shopping to get things for the trip to Eckert's Friday night. Nanaw isn't going because it's going to be cold outside. She'll stay home where it's warm and snuggly -- and have a fire. Below is Chase's Young Author's story.

My Smoky Mountain Trip

Once upon a time, me and my mom and dad and Nanaw and the dogs were going to the Smoky Mountains for Halloween.

We were staying at Curious Bear. We were going to McDonalds to eat breakfast. We ate breakfast in the car and then we headed out to the Curious Bear.

When we were in Tennessee there was traffic.

Then when we got to the house we looked at it.

When it was almost lunch time we heard a strange noise. Then we looked in the house to see what it was. So we checked to see if it was a bear outside. It was not.

Then we checked upstairs. It was my Tooth Monster pillow. Then when I saw the monster I wiggled one of my teeth and pulled it out. Then I put it in a bag.

When it was bed time we put my Tooth Fairy Monster pillow with the tooth in it under the pillow.

When I was sleeping with Nanaw the tooth fairy came and gave me five dollars. In the morning I looked to see if my tooth was gone and there was the five dollars. Then

I went down to wake up my parents and tell them about the five dollars. They said cool.

We went to the pancake house. We ate breakfast and went to the mini golf place.

We had a good time. We were sad to go home.

The End

When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he told her they only had two recesses today, and they didn't computer class. He said they had the Young Authors' ceremony in the afternoon. He didn't win any prizes but got a certificate of participation. Nanaw really liked his story, and she asked Mama to email the story to her so she can put it in Days of Chase. After school, Chase wanted Nanaw to make certificates for his stuffed animals writing books. Nanaw looked and looked for a certificate template but couldn’t find one. She will keep looking and maybe she can make certificates for Chase tomorrow. When Nanaw took Chase home, she borrowed his Iowa Test report and his report card so she could make copies for herself. Chase was doing his homework when Nanaw left -- his nightly 15 minutes of reading and two pages of math homework. Nanaw forgot to take any pictures today of Chase for Days of Chase. So she texted Mama asking her to take a picture of Chase in his Stinky's tee shirt.

Chase had a major adventure on Tuesday: his first field trip of the year. Mama had the day off so she could go on the field trip. She took Chase to school and then came to pick up Nanaw. Mama and Nanaw had Chase and Drew in their group. On the way to Powell Symphony Hall to hear the St. Louis Symphony, Nanaw sat with Drew on the bus, and Mama and Chase sat together. At Powell Hall, the Symphony Orchestra provided information about instruments. Next, they played Peter and the Wolf, while a narrator read the story. It was cool. Later, Chase said he enjoyed it. They left Powell Hall and went to Tower Grove Park to have lunch. After lunch, the boys and girls played in the park for awhile. At first, Chase hung around with Mama and Nanaw, then Mama convinced him to go play with everybody, and he did. The next stop on the field trip was the Missouri Botanical Garden. The boys and girls had paper bags they'd decorated to use for their nature search. They were to look for leaves, acorns, buds, anything on the ground -- except for rocks and sticks. It was an excellent idea to get the students involved and engaged with all the displays at the Botanical Garden. Everybody had great fun as they walked through the gardens, looking at all the plants and flowers. Mama and Daddy had a parent-teacher conference with Mrs. Meyer in the evening and got Chase's report card and Iowa Test results. They told Nanaw that Chase is a very smart little boy. He scored 72 on the Iowa Test; the goal score was 50. He also got almost all 3s on his report card, the best grade. So he is a very smart little boy.

When Nanaw took Chase to school on Monday morning, one of the little girls was excited to show Nanaw her pierced ears and diamond earrings that she got for her birthday. Nanaw saw that Chase's new corner book was Diary of a Wimpy Kid. One of the little girls took his Dog Man book from him so Chase picked out another one. When Nanaw picked Chase up, he wanted to know what they would do when they got home. Nanaw told him it was up to him. At first, he thought maybe he wanted to go a Ninja park. But then he decided he wanted to do a nature search. So they got out buckets and went around the front yard, picking up leaves and flowers and tomatoes for their nature search. It was great fun, and Nanaw took a picture of Chase with the contents of their nature search buckets. Then Chase and Nanaw decorated Nanaw's pumpkin with the wooden Halloween decorations that PawPaw bought for decorating pumpkins.

Sunday, October 20, 2019

Chase had another wonderful Halloween adventure on Sunday. He, Mama and Nanaw went to Pumpkin Blossom Hill farm to get pumpkins and to play on all the activities. Mama and Chase wore their Jack Skellington shirts. They met Aunt Becky and her daughter Taylor there, as they've done in past years. Chase had a wonderful time playing with Taylor. He said that was his favorite thing about the day. He went on the slide a lot. Then he and Taylor went on the swings. They also jumped in the stock tank full of plastic balls and the stock tank full of corn kernels. Nanaw's favorite thing was going in the corn maze. Chase was the leader and amazingly enough, Chase successfully led them out of the corn maze. Yay, Chase!! Chase and Mama got bags of kettle corn but Nanaw didn't because she had a big bag Friday night and Saturday night so she said she was kettle-corned out. Mama bought three pumpkins for Chase and one pumpkin for Nanaw. After the pumpkin farm, they stopped at Schnuck's in Waterloo. Nanaw was excited to find out that they have lactose-free cottage cheese. That will be a much closer place to go than the Manchester Schnuck's or the Washington Walmart. Mama bought candy: Snickers almond for her and Nanaw and M&Ms for Chase. In the evening, Nanaw went over to Chase's house for a beef stroganoff dinner.
