Happy Halloween! Monday, October 31, 2022

Mama had the day off work so she took Chase to school on Monday morning. Later in the day, she texted Mama that pictures were coming home today. When Chase came out of school, he showed Nanaw his picture. It was very cute, with Chase wearing his glasses, which matched his blue shirt. Nana took a picture of the picture and sent it to Mama. Nanaw will put the picture in a frame and put it somewhere in the living room. Nanaw was surprised at the amount of homework the teachers assigned for Halloween night. He had religion and English homework to do. For dinner on Halloween night, Mama fixed pepperoni pizza. Hunter, Brady and Emma and their moms and dads came over to Chase's house to go trick-or-treating. At the beginning of the evening, a Columbia, Il EMS ambulance drove around delivering candy to trick-or-treaters. They stopped at Chase's house and showed everyone what was inside the ambulance and let them take pictures. The back of the ambulance was all decorated for Halloween, and a huge skeleton lay on the gurney inside the ambulance. Nanaw stayed back at Chase's house part of the time to hand out candy. Later in the evening, Nanaw went out trick or treating, too.

Daddy, Chase and Mama carved pumpkins on Sunday. Daddy and Chase's pumpkin turned out well. Mama's pumpkin had a problem with its mouth but Mama left it that way. After pumpkin carving, they all went to BassPro to get things for the Rockbridge trip. Chase got a coloring kit with a brush that has paint on it when it's put in water. Mama also bought kettle corn for Nanaw and for herself. Nanaw came over at four, before Truck and Treat at Chase's school. Chase wore his hockey uniform and gear as his Halloween costume. Mama had Chase tell Nanaw about the party. He didn't go to bed till 1:30 so he was really tired. For breakfast, they had homemade cinnamon rolls and bacon. At five, they all went up to Chase's school for Truck and Treat. Chase looked really Chase looked great in his hockey uniform, and Nanaw took pictures. Chase trick or treated for a while but then didn't want to anymore. Mama tried to encourage him to do more but eventually, he just wanted to go home. Mama said she and Chase did lots of scratchers in the evening and had fun doing it.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went grocery shopping. Chase didn't bring any of the guys but wanted to play with Nanaw's stuffed animals again. So they played hockey on Pawpaw's bed. Then Chase and Nanaw played hockey in the hall. Chase then played on the desktop computer in the computer lab, and Nanaw played on the laptop. In the afternoon, Chase had hockey practice and then the hockey team photo. In the evening, Chase went to a party Drew's house. Some of his friends were there: Joey and Connor. They had homemade pizza and some mores. They played games and watched the movie Ghostbusters. They also played in Drew's tree house. Chase and Connor and some of the other boys spent the night. Mama and Daddy went out to dinner for their 12th wedding anniversary. They tried to go to Outback but there was an hour and 20 minutes wait. So they went to Fitz's. Mama had a special hamburger and Daddy had a pork steak.

Today was nephew/cousin Dan's funeral. Chase had the day off from school, and Daddy was working from home. Mama and Nanaw went to the funeral. It was a beautiful service, and Dan is buried in the church cemetery overlooking a gorgeous view of a valley full of trees turning colors. Uncle Mike, Aunt Becky and cousin Lindsey were also at the funeral. They all went back to Dan's house for lunch. Nanaw visited with her brother Uncle Doug. Later in the day, Nanaw went over to Chase's house to play with him. He had gotten new Playmobil hockey players as a reward for his excellent report card so Chase and Nanaw played hockey. Daddy went to the Chinese place by Schnuck's and got food for dinner. Nanaw stayed and hand crab Rangoon and fried rice, which were delicious. Chase had fried rice, white rice and sweet and sour chicken.

On Thursday morning, Chase told Nanaw that he didn't feel well and didn't think he could go to school. When Mama brought him over to Nanaw's house on Thursday morning, she said he had complained about his ear and stomach hurting. Nanaw called Mama and asked her to call the school, which she did. Nanaw had Chase take a nap and that seemed to help him for a little while. He ate a few saltines and drank some Pedialyte but then threw up. Later, he wanted lunch and he had chicken rice soup and oyster crackers. He did some homework that his teacher emailed Mama about -- Moby Max for math and history, where he had to interpret a selection of three ancient rules in his own words. He still wasn't feeling himself. Mama and Nanaw were going to nephew/cousin Dan's visitation, and Daddy and Chase were going to rive separately. But Chase was still feeling badly and didn't want to go in so Daddy decided to take him home. On their way to the truck, Chase threw up in the grass. On their way home, Mama and Nanaw stopped at Schnuck's for Pedialyte and Taco Bell for dinner. Today's photos are Facebook Memory photos that Mama sent to Nanaw.

The first photo below is of Chase in his special Halloween jammies -- how cute! When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said his homework included Weekly writing and a history assignment where he had to paste some things on paper. He tried to convince Nanaw that he would do some of it tonight after baseball practice, but Nanaw encouraged him to get it all done at her house. So he did. Nanaw proofread his writing page and once again, found several t's that weren't crossed and a left-out word. His topic was his top ten favorite animals, and he did a cute job. After he finished his homework, he played football with the stuffed animals on Pawpaw's bed. For dinner, Mama fixed turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy. Chase liked the turkey and asked Mama if there was more.

Daddy had the day off again today so he took Chase to school. It was early dismissal today because of parent/teacher conferences. Chase did his MobyMax homework when they got to Nanaw's house. He postponed his weekly writing assignment to tomorrow afternoon instead of doing it today. It's due Thursday. He's chosen his topic: A list of his favorite ten animals, with complete sentences explaining why each animal is one of his favorites. For the afternoon, Chase played Roblox and watched YouTube videos, and Nanaw read her book, all in the computer lab. One of the YouTube videos Chase watched was some kids playing with a Playmobil. So Chase went into his room and started playing with his Playmobil locker room -- it was very cute, and made Nanaw happy. Mama and Daddy had their parent/teacher conference with Chase's teacher. She said his grades are really good, and he's very kind. She says she wishes he would be more outgoing in class (but Nanaw says that's just Chase.) Chase got his first quarter report card today, and he received six A+s and six As. This is probably his best report card ever. He also got the results of the Iowa tests. He got an amazing 96th percentile in writing; the other scores were in the sixties, seventies and eighties. So that was good also. He said he didn't have any homework for tonight but when Nanaw looked at Homework Central, there were two things marked as homework. Probably he got them done in class but Nanaw asked Mama to double-check. Tomorrow Mama and Daddy and are having their parent-teacher conference with Chase's teacher. It will be interesting to see what the teacher has to say about Chase. After school, he played hockey on the computer in the computer lab. Nanaw sat in there with him, working on the laptop. Then when it was time for his AR reading, Nanaw did her reading also. He had to be home at five to go to hockey practice.  Tomorrow he has early dismissal; also on Thursday. He has baseball practice on Wednesday evening.

Our family had really tragic news. Cousin Dan passed away Saturday morning after a four-year fight against cancer. We were sure he would win the fight but it wasn't to be. He was the best -- kind, generous, humble and totally giving. He'll certainly be missed. Mama sent Nanaw a picture of a stuffed dog toy she won at the dinner auction at Elias's school Saturday night. It's a big Lambie, like Sylvester's little Lambie. It's the first picture below. Mama got lots of stuff at the auction: four holiday gnomes for Nanaw (two for fall and two for Christmas); candy for Chase; another dog bed for Sam and Sylvester; and two purses for herself. When they got home Sunday morning, Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's for a visit. She also picked up Sam and Sylvester; she really missed her pups. While he was at Nanaw's house, Chase played Roblox hockey on the computer -- he really loves playing on the computer. He says it's really fast so that's a good thing.

Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Saturday morning while she went grocery shopping. Chase brought along his fundraising project. It's a yellow sock that he's supposed to decorate with various things. Then Mama will put money in it, and Chase will take it back to school on Monday. It's to support kids with cancer. Chase made cool-looking eyes and pasted all kinds of cute things on the sock. He had lots of fun doing it. Nanaw had bought some special glue to use on fabric so that the glued-on things stayed glued. After the project, Chase played Roblox hockey on the computer in the computer lab. His player, number 95, scored lots of goals. Mama and Chase were going to stop by Red Roof on their way home from Nanaw's house. Mama brought Sam and Sylvester over to Nanaw's house in the afternoon for their sleepover. Mama and Daddy were going to Uncle Chris's dinner auction at Elias's school; Chase was going to play with Elias. Then they were all going to have a sleepover at Elias's house.

When Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Friday morning, she told Chase and Nanaw about the evening's plans. They were going to a haunted hayride in Millstadt, which includes shooting zombies with paintball guns. Hunter and Mason and their dad were going, too. Their mom wasn't going because she doesn't like scary stuff. But Mama does! Nanaw looked at Chase's grades online. Today is the last day of the quarter. Mama and Daddy have a teacher's conference next Tuesday, and they'll get his report card then. It looks like he's making seven grades of A+ and six grades of A -- good for the smart little fella. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said they had to hurry home because he was supposed to play a game online with his buddy Joey. There was a lot of laughing and fun involved with their game-playing. Mama went to McDonald's to pick up dinner before they left for the haunted hayride and the zombie shooting. Chase asked for his usual -- cheeseburger plain. Maybe Mama will send some photos.

Mama was back to do the mousse on Chase's hair, and that's a good thing. He's still fascinated with his image in the mirror, liking his new do. LOL When Nanaw picked Chase up, he was wearing his glasses and looked so cute. He said he had religion homework -- reading some Bible stories on his Chromebook. He said he wanted to read the stories with Daddy, and Nanaw said okay. When they got to Nanaw's house, Chase ran into the house to make a note about which stories to read. The note said: Adam, Eve, Noah and Moses. Chase played Roblox on the computer with his hockey avatar with his hockey number -- 95. Nanaw took pictures of Chase with Lars and with his glasses -- very cute. He has an art project that's raising money for cancer in kids -- it's called the sock project, and it's due Monday. After taking Chase home, Nanaw went to Waterloo Walmart for grocery shopping and getting a Covid booster shot and a flu shot. Mama called her and asked to see if the crafts area in Walmart had some kind of glue she could use to glue things on the sock. They did so Nanaw bought some for Mama. Mama's car is at Dobb's for an oil change so Daddy brought Chase over to Nanaw's house on Wednesday morning. That meant Nanaw had to put the mousse in Chase's hair. Well, that was a disaster. Nanaw put way too much mousse on Chase's hair, and it was a mess. Nanaw managed to get most of the mousse off with a towel, and all was well. Mama will be back on the job Thursday morning. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked if he brought home the study materials for the science test, and he said he did. He also said he had some Holes homework. At Nanaw's house, they made edits to his Weekly Writing, and Chase did his Holes homework. They then studied for the science test but didn't get through everything because Chase had to be home by 4:10 for hockey practice. Nanaw showed Mama what science stuff he still had to study. Nanaw took Mama to Dobb's to pick up her car, and Uncle Mike rode along. He was at Nanaw's house to change her burned-out headlight.

Mama took Chase's glasses to Clarkson to get the screw replaced before she went to the Parents and Friends meeting. So Chase was able to wear his glasses at school. He says he really needs them to see the board. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, she asked him if he'd brought home the study guide for Wednesday's math test. He said he forgot it, and he wouldn't go back into school to get it, no matter what Nanaw did. So Nanaw got Cole's mom's phone number from Mama, and texted her, asking her to take a picture of the study guide. She did, and Nanaw printed it out for Chase to study. He got 17 out of 18 right so hopefully, he'll do as well on his test. Nanaw told Chase if he forgets his study material for Thursday's science test, he doesn't go home till he goes back into school to get it. He did his Weekly Writing at home on Wednesday night. Nanaw asked Mama to take a picture of it and send it to her. Chase took the picture and sent it. It was a cute story about an ostrich and a zookeeper.

Mama brought mousse over to Nanaw's house on Monday morning so it will be there for her to fix Chase's hair. He's still delighted with his new haircut. When Nanaw picked Chase up from school, he said he had something to tell her -- always a cause for concern. This time, he said he's lost a screw from his glasses and the eyepiece came off. He couldn't find the screw but he had the eyepiece. He said he wanted Mama to take them to Clarkson to get them fixed. When they talked to Mama on the pickup call, Chase told her about it, and she said she'd take care of it. Chase said he had a good day, and he had some reading homework. He finished his reading homework -- vocabulary for Holes at Nanaw's house, then played on the computer and the tablet. He has a math test on Wednesday on pages 143 and 144, and a science test on Thursday. Nanaw had to have Chase home by 5 p.m. because he had hockey practice. Mama had the Parents & Friends meeting tonight -- she always likes those.

Chase had a hockey game around noon today, and it was a very exciting game because he scored his first goal. Mac, one of his teammates hit the puck to Chase, and he hit it into the goal. Then, on the next goal by his team, Chase got an assist. Mama said Chase was so happy about his first goal and his assist. She sent Nanaw a picture of Chase in his new jersey with number 95 right before he scored his first goal. She also sent Nanaw a video of Chase scoring his goal. Nanaw went to visit Chase in the afternoon when she got home from the little house. Mama told Nanaw about their night at Eckert's, and it sounded like fun, especially the Haunted Hayride. Chase wanted Nanaw to play with him with the hockey playmobil so they did. Nanaw doesn’t know the rules of hockey very well so she always does a bad job playing, and Chase is constantly correcting her or calling penalties on her players. Mama and Daddy don't like Chase being so mean to Nanaw. So Nanaw said they won't play playmobil anymore. They'll just play baseball outside and play with the stuffed animals on Chase's bed. Nanaw just realized that they could play regular hockey downstairs also. They don't need to know many hockey rules for that.

On Saturday morning, Mama brought Chase over to Nanaw's house while she went to the grocery store. Chase played Roblox on the computer and then played on the tablet, all in what he calls the computer lab. Nanaw sat in there with him, reading a book. They also watched PBS Kids. Chase, Mama and Daddy had a major adventure in the evening. They went to the Eckert's Fall and Halloween extravaganza in Millstadt. Chase was excited to see his cousin Elias. Mama sent Nanaw a picture of Chase and Elias riding tractors. She also sent Nanaw a picture of Chase with Elias and Brady, Chase's friend from school. Brady's sister Emma belongs to the Girl Scouts, and the troop had reserved a bonfire site near the bonfire site that Chase's family had reserved. Mama said it was a wonderful, fun evening, especially going on the Haunted Hayride, which had lots of scary things. One of the rides Chase went on was a spinning thing, and it sort of upset his stomach. So he didn't really didn't eat anything except for some candy at the beginning of the evening.
