Wednesday was Nanaw's first day to help out in Chase's kindergarten class. On the way to school, Chase said, "I'm so happy you're going to come to my class today." You can imagine how happy it made Nanaw to hear that. At one o'clock, Nanaw went to Chase's classroom. Her assignment was to play a Smartboard game with the children. They came to play the game in groups, by table. Chase's table, the yellow table, was the first group. The idea was to "light" birthday candles on a cake by tapping them. Then you were supposed to count how many candles were on the cake and then tap that number. The cake, candles and numbers would disappear and another cake and unlit candles would appear. It was great fun, and the boys and girls really seemed to enjoy it. The boys and girls also seemed to enjoy playing with Nanaw, and that made Nanaw very happy. At two o'clock, Nanaw's time in the classroom was over, and the boys and girls went outside for their last recess of the day. On the way home, Chase and Nanaw went to the health food store for vitamins. Nanaw gave Chase a plastic ball with a penguin and a baby penguin in it, and he took it home for a sleepover. Today, the Columbia volunteer firemen visited the kindergarten and gave the boys and girls fire hats -- very cute. Nanaw's neighbor Eric, who was also one of Chase's tee-ball coaches, was one of the visiting volunteer firemen.
