After school, Chase spent most of the homework time drawing the pictures for his book report. He did a really good job, and Nanaw is very proud of him. The requirement is to draw three pictures about the book, one for the beginning of the book, one for the middle, and one for the end. The beginning picture is a picture of Jacob Firestone's khaki duffel bag from 1944 that says Fort Benning or Bust. The second picture is Juliette and Philippe, the teenagers who followed the Firestones around France. The third picture is the Croix de Guerre (the Cross of War), the medal that Jacob Firestone was awarded at the 75th anniversary ceremony of D-Day. He has to turn in a draft copy of his compare and contrast essay tomorrow, although he already has his final copy. He'll turn in the final copy on Thursday, May 2, along with the final copy of his book report. The book report is due Friday, May 3, but Chase won't be at school that day. He, Mama and Daddy are going to a baseball tournament in Branson, Missouri. Nanaw is going to take care of Sam and Sylvester while they're gone. This time, they're going to try having the dogs stay at home, with Nanaw going over there four times a day to let them out and feed them to see if that works. It would prevent Sylvester from escaping, like he did two times. In the first picture below, Chase put his hair behind his ears so Nanaw took a picture. The second picture is one of Nanaw's three cats, a rare happening.
