Chase's first adventure for Wednesday, a small one, was going downstairs with Nanaw to play on the "big piano" for the first time. Nanaw has two keyboards -- one small one that Chase plays on all the time and one larger one that she hadn't let him play on. So it was a big deal to Chase to play on the big piano, and he had a grand time doing so. Chase's real adventure for Wednesday was a trip to Powder Valley. It's been raining all week, and it was sprinkling when Chase and Nanaw got to Powder Valley but they went for a walk on the trails despite the rain, carrying umbrellas. On their walk, a most exciting thing happened: They saw a mother deer with her two baby deer. The mother and one baby crossed the trail between two groups of people but the second baby was afraid of the people. Chase kept saying, "Come on, baby, cross the trail." It was very cute. Eventually, the baby deer crossed the trail and joined his mama and sibling, and Chase was very happy about that. Inside the Nature Center, Chase made his usual rounds, to the puppet room, to the fish aquarium, to the place where you build a pretend birdhouse, to the turtle aquariums and to the video area. At the end of the day, Mama came to pick up Chase at Nanaw's so they could go shopping for Daddy's Fathers' Day present. Mama said they would also get a "special" for Chase -- special is Chase's word for a surprise present -- also very cute. Today was Nanaw's and Pawpaw's 55th wedding anniversary.
