Thursday was Nanaw's day to volunteer in Chase's classroom. She got to do the first group (they were rowdy as usual) but not Chase's group. Mrs. Neff told Nanaw that the first grade classes were doing a bus evacuation drill. So Nanaw went along with them. The class walked outside to one of the school buses and got on. Chase and Evan sat with Nanaw, which was very sweet. The head of the Columbia schools transportation department was there on the bus, telling the boys and girls about safety measures, exits, fire extinguishers, and the radio they can use to call for help if there's an accident and the bus driver can't call for help. Nanaw had lots of fun with the boys and girls. She was sorry that she didn't get to work with Chase's group but there's always next week. When Nanaw picked up Chase, he told her that Daddy threw pretend threw his tablet in the trash. Nanaw asked why, and Chase said it was because he kicked Daddy when Daddy said he had to put his tablet away and go to bed. Chase said he wanted to finish his game. Nanaw gave Chase a lecture about always doing what his Mama and Daddy tell him to do and to never kick anyone. On the way home, Chase and Nanaw stopped at the Columbia library to register to read to Fred on November 20. They also checked out three weather books and a tropical grasslands book. Chase did the scavenger hunt for the dwarf and found it and won a special pencil. He also got to hide the dwarf again.
