Mama picked Chase up from Nanaw's house on Sunday morning at 8:30 to take him to church. He was scheduled to be a server. Daddy had gone golfing with Uncles Chris, George and Chuck so he couldn't take Chase to church so Mama did. After church, Chase and Mama did errands, like getting gas and going to Target for another water gun for Chase. One of his water guns got lost yesterday at Joey's party so Mama bought him a replacement. When their errands were done, they went to Mama's favorite fast food place: Arby's. Mama was excited that they'd brought back potato cakes for a while. Mama loves their potato cakes and was sad when they discontinued them. Nanaw came over for dinner -- lazy lasagna and garlic cheese bread. After dinner, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs and played balloon volleyball and then just threw some balls around. Next, Chase went into the blue room and played the keyboard for Nanaw. Mama came downstairs and told Chase that Joey's mom had let her know that Joey would  be at running club tomorrow, for the first time. He's been at camp. Mama said that later in the evening, two of Chase's friends, Cole and Hunter, came over to play with him. Mama said Chase sounded really happy to see his friends and play with them.

On Saturday afternoon, Chase had an exciting adventure. His best friend Joey had a swimming party at the Columbia swimming pool. Chase's whole gang of guys were there, including (besides Joey) Brady, Hunter, Cole and Drew. Also there were Jackson D., Joey's older brother Sean Michael, Will, and Cam. The party was from 4 to 7, and Chase was so excited to go. When Nanaw came to pick Chase up, she watched him play Wiffle ball with all the guys. At first, he was catching, and he did a great job at that. Then he was pitching, and again, he did a great job. Chase didn't see Nanaw waiting for him so Nanaw asked Joey's mom to get Chase because he didn't know she was there. Joey's mom said Chase didn't have to leave if he didn't want to because Joey's family would be staying for awhile. Nanaw said they were going to have a sleepover, and Joey's mom said in that case, Chase should go along with Nanaw. When they left, they went to Taco Bell for a Crunch Wrap Supreme and a cheese quesadilla for Nanaw. Then they went to Sonic for two pretzel twists with cheese sauce and a mini sonic blast with M&Ms for Chase. After dinner, they played restaurant with the guys and had wonderful fun. It's Nanaw's favorite thing to do with Chase, and he likes it too. While they were playing, they watched Despicable Me 3, then 2, then 1, in preparation for going to see Despicable Me  4. It was a wonderful sleepover.

Chase had a hockey lesson at the Sharks ice rink on Friday at noon. About 11, they went over to Chase's house to get his hockey gear.  Nanaw had fun watching Chase skate around the rink with the instructor Dakota. Chase seemed to have fun, even if he fell a couple of times. Nanaw took along her new laptop  and worked on her latest mystery. It's very exciting that the laptop came with a SIM card so it can connect to Nanaw's iPhone hotspot. That means it will have WiFi whenever the hotspot has a signal.  On the way home, Nanaw had several errands to do. She got gas, got a newspaper at Schnuck's and picked up an audio book at the library. It's the new Greg Iles book Southern Man and it's 18 disks long, and Nanaw can only have it for three weeks. So Nanaw will have to either listen fast or have it be overdue or both. Chase said he didn't think they had enough time for school so Nanaw said okay. She'll  try to make it up next week. Mama picked Chase up about 3:30 to take him to his haircut appointment. In the evening, Mama said they're going to buy fireworks for the 4th of July weekend, and then they'll have dinner at Syberg's. At the end of running club on Thursday morning, there was a lot of squirting with long-shot water guns. Chase was soaking wet. When they got home, Chase changed into dry clothes and Nanaw washed his wet clothes. He told Nanaw that the meeting with the Bears coach went well, and Chase wants to join that team. He says he'll go when he can, and the ICS baseball team will come first. Both the Bears and ICS do fall ball, and Chase also has hockey practice and games in the fall. So he'll have a busy sports time. Nanaw brought the rats along when she picked Chase, and he was excited to see them. When they got home, Cha

se played with them on his two ice rinks. Then he took the rats and Marc Andre into the kitchen and played with them there. Nanaw told Chase about her plan for school where they spend time going through the huge stack of Chase's sixth grade papers that Nanaw saved. They're going to listen to Alexa reading Slugfest while they were working on the stack of papers. Chase's baseball game Thursday evening didn't happen because the other team didn't show up. Chase has just one more baseball game with this team.

It looked like rain on Wednesday morning so Chase and Nanaw didn't go for their walk. And sure enough, it started to rain and rained on and off during the day. This was very good for Nanaw's grass and flowers and tomatoes and cucumbers. Nanaw had an appointment in the middle of the day at St. Clare hospital, and Chase stayed by himself. That always worries Nanaw because she doesn't want anything to happen to him but Mama says he's old enough and responsible enough to take are of himself by himself for a couple of hours. School was only an hour today because Daddy was going to pick Chase up for a meeting with the coach of the Bears baseball team. Chase might be changing baseball teams if he can get the chance to pitch more. Nanaw just had the idea that maybe tomorrow they'll have an hour of school and an hour of gong through the huge stack of papers from 6th grade to see if there are any they want to keep. They'll not do the reading but they'll do math in the 6th grade book, some pages in the summer book, flash cards, capitals, and maybe some of the language pages if there's any time left. On Friday, Chase has a hockey lesson with Dakota at the Meramec Sharks ice rink on Lemay Ferry at noon. Chase's 25 black rats came today after he'd already left so Nanaw sent a picture of them to Chase and Mama.

Chase didn't want to go for the morning walk on Tuesday. It was really hot outside, and Nanaw was fine with no walk. Chase was happy about the Florida Panthers winning the Stanley Cup last night. They have some kind of ritual where they throw plastic black rats on the ice. So Chase had Nanaw buy some black plastic rats from Amazon. They'll be delivered tomorrow, and Chase is looking forward to getting them. He's going to throw them on his Playmobil ice rink. For lunch, Chase had a cheeseburger mac and cheese dinner, and he liked it. School was good and went well. Yesterday, he hadn't wanted to do math in his 6th grade math book but Nanaw convinced him it would be a good thing. He agreed to do it if on Tuesday they could do math first, and Nanaw agreed. Nanaw's new way of doing math with Chase is working well. They do the problems together, with Chase telling Nanaw step-by-step how to do the problems. Today, while they were doing the problems, Nanaw asked Chase if he liked that way of doing the problems, and he said yes, so that's a good thing. Chase's baseball practice on Tuesday evening was cancelled because of rain and thunderstorms. Wednesday afternoon, Daddy is going to pick Chase up at 3:30 at Nanaw's house to take him to an interview with the coach of the Bears baseball team to see if he can be on that team next year. Mama and Daddy think he will like it better and may be able to pitch more.

Chase had running club on Monday morning at the little library park. Nanaw sent lemon water with him but he didn't drink all of it. When Nanaw picked Chase up, he was all excited because they'd had Blue Bell ice cream. Nanaw told Mama about it, and she said businesses were donating things for the running club. Nanaw took along Gator Ade so Chase could hydrate himself. He said he was too full for breakfast because of the ice cream, but later in the day Nanaw gave him most of the things he would have eaten for breakfast, except for the Honey Nut cereal. At school time, first they listened to Slugfest. Letting Alexa read the book really works well because Chase and Nanaw's voices would have given out. Next they had math flashcards, then state capitals. It was time for math, and Chase didn't want to do it. Nanaw said they were going to do it, and he asked if they could do some other things first. So they did. After they did several pages in the Summer Bridge book, they did some math and Chase seemed okay with it. He chose the problems they worked on, and that worked well. He asked if they could do math first tomorrow, and Nanaw said yes. Becky G. dropped Mama off at Nanaw's house so Mama could borrow the Escape because she has a hair appointment after work tomorrow.

Chase and Daddy went to church on Sunday morning. Then Chase had a baseball game in the afternoon. Chase was really happy that his team won 14 to 0. Nanaw came over to visit about 6 o'clock. Mama told Nanaw that she was making stir fry, and Chase was going to help. One of the ingredients was tiny little ears of corn, which all of them call unborn corn -- very funny. So Nanaw watched Chase open the can of unborn corn, put it in the colander to drain, and then rinse it off. Mama fixed the stew meat, and Chase stirred it as it browned. Mama let Chase work on boiling the ramen noodles, and he put the corn and carrots in with the meat. It was really fun for Nanaw to watch Chase cook. He enjoyed it so much. Mama said earlier in the day, he'd helped make cherry chip cupcakes for Becky G's birthday and a little cherry chip cake with the rest of the batter and icing. Mama invited Nanaw to stay for dinner, and so Nanaw stayed. The stir fry was good, and Daddy really likes it. Mama made sure he had enough leftover for lunch on Tuesday. Chase's friends Cole, Hunter and Brady came over to play with Chase after dinner. Mama said first they played outside in the back yard, and then downstairs.

Chase's baseball team had a game this afternoon at the Affton fields, but unfortunately his team lost the game. For dinner, they had Chinese food. Then Nanaw came over to visit with Chase when she got back from the little house. Chase went outside to practice his hitting and his bat swings. Nanaw came out to watch him. Daddy started a fire in the firepit, and Mama burned lots bills and copies of other papers she didn't want to put in the trash. Daddy pitched to Chase and coached him on how to swing the bat and where to keep his head as he was swinging the bat. Daddy suggested that Chase could do some bat swinging practice at Nanaw's house -- just swinging the bat 25 times and not hitting any balls. Chase used his metal bat from this year and also his new bat. He loves baseball but wishes he could get to pitch more. He hasn't had any pitching lessons lately but he's been having hitting lessons regularly. Mama, Daddy and Nanaw sat outside talking for a while, and Chase went inside to his room to watch TV and play with his phone. Nanaw went in to say good-bye to him when she left.

On Friday morning, Chase and Nanaw went for their morning walk for the first time in a long time. The weather was nice, not too hot, and with a breeze. Nanaw was happy that Chase didn't take his phone along, which he usually does. When he doesn't have his phone, he talks to Nanaw, and she likes that a lot. Nanaw and Chase had an abbreviated school session in the afternoon because Nanaw had to do a Zoom marketing meeting with people from the church media group. For the abbreviated school session, they listened to the book Slugfest for 15 minutes, instead of half an hour. Then they did the multiplication and division flash cards and five state capitals. Next Chase read one of the reading comprehension sections and answered the questions. Finally, they did some math problems and that was it. After Nanaw's Zoom meeting, Nanaw took Chase home. Daddy took Chase swimming at the Columbia swimming pool with his friends Brady and Cole. Nanaw's nephew and Mama and Uncle Mike's cousin Eric and his wife Ann were coming over to Chase's house for a visit. They were in town from Colorado. They were later than expected so Nanas went to Schnuck's to get her newspaper and then went home to pack up for the little house. Then she went back to Chase's house to visit with Eric, Ann, Mama, Daddy, Uncle Mike and aunt Becky. Chase texted Daddy to come pick him up at the swimming pool around 7:30. Mama ordered Imo's Pizza, and Nanaw was so excited about the delicious thin crust pizza. Thin crust is Nanaw's favorite, and she never has it. Now she knows where to get it.

Today was Chase's half-birthday -- 12 1/2. It was also the summer solstice. This morning Chase said to Nanaw, "In December on my birthday, I'll be 13!" And Nanaw said, "A teenager!!" Nanaw gave him his plastic cicadas, and he played with them and with Charlie the cicada. The plastic guys went swimming in a bowl of water, and Charlie was too big to join them. Chase had running club on Thursday morning at the big park. Daddy took him, and Nanaw picked him up. Nanaw took along the Gator Ade that Mama brought over for Chase because he'd felt bad after Monday's running club. He also had a long, skinny, lime popsicle from the coach of the running club. They didn't have school today because Chase had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon and had to be home early to go to baseball practice. For lunch, Chase had Nanaw mix together the Cheetos mac and cheese and the Kraft mac and cheese and add mozzarella cheese. Nanaw is loaning the Bronco to Mama, because her car has a blown head gasket, whatever that is. It sounds serious. Dobb's said it would cost $3,000 to fix, and they suggested that Mama follow up with Jeep about it because the car never overheated and the check engine light never went on. So Mama drove the Bronco to Chase's doctor's appointment in the afternoon. It was with the gastroenterologist who treated Chase when he was having severe stomach pains. The doctor never did find anything wrong with Chase, and she said to Mama that it might have been anxiety. He weighed 98.2 pounds and is almost 5 foot 1 inch. Nanaw and Mama are very happy that he's gained back and then some of the weight he lost when he was having the stomach problems.

Nanaw went over to visit Chase in the afternoon on Juneteenth. Mama was stretched out on the sofa reading from her phone about Juneteenth and what it was.  It was about the ending of slavery in Texas, somehow connected to the end of Civil War, and celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. Chase was playing with his hockey Playmobil on the living room floor and watching baseball games with Daddy. Earlier, the Cardinals lost to the Marlins. They're in second place in their division, with a record of 36 - 37. Most of the teams in the central division are doing really badly. After a while, Chase and Nanaw went downstairs for Chase to play with his VR, and Nanaw to watch him play on the Meta Quest app on his phone. Mama came downstairs and cleaned out his backpack and all the bags he brought home at the end of the school year. Nanaw has a bag to go through, along with the major stack of papers under her computer, accumulated throughout the school year. Mama invited Nanaw to stay for a burger and corn on the cob but Nanaw was going to the grocery store. Chase had a hitting lesson in the evening. Mama texted Nanaw to say they were planning to see the new Minions movie, and Nanaw was invited. They also talked about Nanaw wanting Mama to bring Chase out to the little house to go swimming, and going to see the major new library complex on Lindbergh.

Today was cleaning lady day, and Nanaw and Chase had to stay home till the cleaning lady came because she ended up without a key to Nanaw's house. So it was almost 2 p.m. when they finally got to Chase's house. The new bat that Chase was anxiously anticipating had arrived, and he was so happy about it. He unwrapped it, and then went outside to practice hitting with it. Nanaw stood out on the deck in the rain with an umbrella and watched him hit. Then he got out all his special bats and tested them against one another. It was really funny and lots of fun. And Chase was so happy and smiling and having a great time. Around 3 p.m., the doorbell rang, and two of Chase's friends were there on their bikes. They went in the back yard and hit balls with Chase. Then they went out in the field behind Chase's house and hit some really long balls. Next they went downstairs and played knee hockey. Nanaw went home, and Mama and Daddy went to Dobb's. Chase went to the park with Brady. Then they came back to Chase's house and played ball in the back yard. Mason's friend Camden came over to play also . Next, Chase, Brady and Camden went to the Columbia swimming pool till about 8 p.m. It was a busy, happy day for Chase. Tomorrow is the Juneteenth holiday for everybody so Nanaw doesn't know when she'll see Chase on Wednesday.

On Monday morning, it was really hot at running club. Chase didn't feel well most of the day but said it wasn't his stomach but the heat. They gave Hunter a ride home from running club and then they went to the library to sign Chase and Nanaw up for the reading program. They didn't like the girl who signed them up because she was very unfriendly. They've changed the kids' reading program so you have to do nine activities and very little reading. Chase and Nanaw decided they didn't want to do it because of the changes. So if Chase and Nanaw want to go to the Magic House, they'll just buy tickets. Nanaw gave Chase money for the vending machine and he got cookies and crackers. Later, they went to Chase's house to check on Sylvester who hurt his front right paw yesterday. Mama bandaged it, and Sly was trying to get the bandage off but he seemed okay. Nanaw gave Tyler, Sly and Sam treats, which made them very happy. Chase was in a great mood with real smiles, in spite of not feeling well from the heat in the morning at running club. School went really well, and Chase and Nanaw had fun together. Nanaw had dinner with Pawpaw at the cemetery for their 64th wedding anniversary.

On Sunday, Chase's team played at 8 a.m. Mama and Daddy brought along their pop-up tent so Mama was out of the sun and so the heat wouldn't bother her like it did yesterday. Chase was in a really good mood at the Father's Day dinner and spent a lot of time watching various baseball games. Nanaw had bought super chunky cookie dough ice cream for Chase but he came over to her and apologized and said he was sorry but he was too full to eat any ice cream. He promised to eat some next week. Nanaw found out from Mama that the Cardinals' baseball game was on Roku yesterday. The only Roku TV that Chase's family has is in his bedroom so he and Daddy watched some of the game there and also dozed. When they were leaving Nanaw's house Sunday evening, Mama suggested that Chase take Charlie the cicada home for a sleepover and so he did. Charlie and Creeper both make good pillows for Chase but Charlie will live at Nanaw's.  The first picture below is a squeezable thing Mama bought for Chase at Walgreen's.

Mama sent Nanaw the  two pictures below of their deck steps that Daddy is working on. Because of the deck work, Daddy didn't go to Chase's  baseball tournament, which continued on Saturday at the O'Fallon, Illinois field. They had a game at 4 p.m. and they tied the game 7 to 7. In the evening, Chase and Mama went to the swim party at Trevor's house in Brellinger. You can see his house from Chase's school. Daddy didn't go because he was tired from working on the deck. Mama said that Trevor's mom had taco stuff so Chase had a walking taco. (Bag of Doritos with cheese and taco meat!) Mama made M&M chocolate chip bars for the party, and they all got eaten quickly. Mama said they'd be able to come for the Father's Day dinner because Chase's first game on Sunday was at 8 a.m., and if they win, they play again at 12. Unfortunately, Mama got really hot at the game and didn't feel well at all.

Today was Chase's last day at hockey camp. He really liked the camp, and said it was better than the one he went to last year. So maybe he'll go back to this one next year. It was really hot today, and Nanaw hoped he did a lot of indoor activity and lots of ice time. The camp was only half a day today. On their way home, Daddy and Chase stopped at Chik Fil A and got food. Chase had chicken nuggets and mac and cheese, which he shared with Nanaw. Chase played with Marc Andre and Charlie the cicada and Nanaw's other stuffed animals. Nanaw still doesn't know if Chase knows about the class list. He has a baseball game tonight so Nanaw had to have him home by 4 p.m. He has a baseball tournament this weekend, which means he and Daddy and Mama might not be able to come to Nanaw's house for Father's Day dinner. Tomorrow evening after their baseball game, the team is going to Trevor's house in Brellinger for a swimming party. Nanaw won't get to see him but Mama will send a picture.

Soon Chase will be done with hockey camp, and Nanaw will have her best friend back. On Friday, he only has a half day of camp, and Nanaw gets him the other half. Then he has a baseball game in the evening. Nanaw is happy about the extra time. The class list for the next school year came out today, and Mama emailed a copy to Nanaw. Mama was concerned that Chase was going to be upset because his best friend is in the other class. So she was going to wait to tell him till later. Chase has a group of five friends he calls the guys, and the six of them hang out a lot and do a very active group text messaging. Three of the group are in one seventh grade class, and the other three are in the other class. Hopefully, they'll still get to hang out together. Nanaw doesn't know if the two classes eat lunch together but she hopes they do. When Chase got to Nanaw's house, he played with Marc Andre and Nanaw's stuffed animals on the kitchen floor. He wanted to play with his new cicada named Charlie, and Nanaw couldn't resist his request so Charlie was right there in the middle of things. Chase had an eight o'clock baseball game tonight so Nanaw didn't have to have him home till 5:30.

Chase is still at hockey camp, and Nanaw still misses him lots. He gets out early on Friday, around noon, so Nanaw is glad about that. Nanaw was very happy that the stuffed cicada she ordered from Amazon for Chase's half-birthday arrived today. When Chase got to Nanaw's house in the late afternoon, she told him that the cicada had arrived but that he couldn't have it till his half-birthday. He asked if he could see the cicada, and Nanaw couldn't resist him, especially when he did his sweet little whimper. He loves the cicada, and pretended he was sleeping on him. Nanaw said he should think of a name, and he thought for awhile and then came up with a name. He named the cicada Charlie, with the nickname of Chuck. Nanaw wishes that the plastic cicadas would arrive soon so that they get here by June 20, Chase's half-birthday. Chase had a baseball game tonight at 8. His baseball season will be over July 15. It was supposed to be over by the end of June but because of all the rained- out games, the season was extended. When Nanaw went to the bank today, the lady that's a friend to her and Chase, made sure Chase got a sucker, as he has for years.

Nanaw missed Chase again today when he attended hockey camp. His schedule for camp is the same every day, and when Nanaw saw Chase in the afternoon, she asked him to explain the items on the schedule, and he did. He said floorball is playing hockey on a regular floor, instead of ice, and using a ball instead of a puck. On-ice is playing in the ice rink with a puck. He explained that the workouts are different each day but basically it's a lot of exercises and running around to build up their strength. For lunch, he had a Lunchable, one of his favorite lunches. This one was cheese and crackers. On their way home from hockey camp, Daddy called Nanaw and told her they were stuck in traffic and wouldn't be there for awhile. But at least Nanaw had half an hour with Chase. Yesterday she had promised him ice cream but he decided he wanted Whales crackers instead. Nanaw went to Dollar Tree and got three boxes of Whales. Nanaw hurried to get Chase home by five but there was a traffic jam in Nanaw's subdivision and on the streets outside the subdivision so it was 5:04 before they got home.

Today was the first day of Chase's hockey camp; it lasts all week. The camp is called the Gretsky Hockey School and is held at the Centene Center in Maryland Heights where the St. Louis Blues practice. Daddy took Chase to and from the hockey camp. He dropped Chase at Nanaw's house after the camp was over so she could visit with him. Chase had a schedule of the camp's daily activities, and he sent a copy of it to Nanaw. Max was the only one of Chase's hockey friends who was going to the camp, and he was in a different group than Chase. Starting at 8 a.m., first on the schedule was floorball. Next was on-ice, followed by another floorball session. Tomorrow Nanaw will ask Chase to explain what on-ice, floorball and workout are and what they do in the sessions. Then came lunch. Mama sent Chase a ham and cheese sandwich plus snacks. After lunch, they had another on-ice session, followed by a workout. Pickup time was 3:15. It was a little after 4 p.m. when Chase and Daddy got to Nanaw's house. At first, Chase was going to play hockey with his Marc Andre Nova hockey set but he decided he was too tired for that, and he just wanted to sit on the sofa and play on his phone so that's what he did. For snacks, he had popcorn, Kool-Ade and Fresca. Nanaw sat on the sofa with him and read magazines while he played on his phone. Nanaw took him home a little after 5.

Chase's re-scheduled  baseball tournament took place in Fenton on Sunday. His team won the first game 15 to 5. They won the second game 13 to 3. When Nanaw went to see Chase in the early evening, he told her that his team scored 28 runs and only gave up 8. He was very proud of that. Chase and Nanaw sat in Chase's room, and he updated her on things. He said he had pretzel bites for a 3:30 p.m. lunch/early dinner at the Reifschneider's restaurant in Columbia. Mama said the team came to Columbia to eat there and then everybody went home. Nanaw keeps forgetting that the team members live in Columbia. Chase, Mama and Daddy went back to Fenton for another game in the evening, the championship game. Mama told Nanaw she hoped this game and tournament turned out better than last week's. Last week, they won their first two games but lost the championship game. Mama reported on her sleepover with Uncle Mike. Aunt Becky got up early on Sunday morning and went to Old Towne Donuts to get donuts for breakfast. Mama said it was a great sleepover. Late breaking news on Chase's baseball tournament: His team won the tournament! They won their tournament-winning game 10 - 2. Yay for the Columbia Baseball Club!

Chase's baseball tournament games were rained out on Saturday so all the games were re-scheduled for Sunday. That's going to be a busy day for the boys. Nanaw came over to visit Chase in the early afternoon. First, they went downstairs, and Chase played on the keyboard for her. He's got a new rap song that he plays with some of the different instruments that the keyboard offers. Then they went upstairs and watched sports on TV. Chase and Daddy were going to have an exciting adventure in the afternoon: They were going to a Cardinals baseball game. Daddy had heard from Uncle Chris that he and cousin Elias were going to the baseball game. Uncle Chris asked if Daddy and Chase would be interested in going, and Daddy said yes. Mama found cheap tickets on Stub Hub -- only $25 a ticket. Chase had a good time at the game, even if the Cardinals lost. Mama was having an adventure also. She was going up to Uncle Doug's house for a sleepover. Mama had a great time there. Aunt Becky bought two kinds of pizza for a taste test -- Pirrone's and Ferraci's pizza.
