Today was a major day of excitement with the total eclipse of the sun. Chase wore his eclipse tee shirt to school, very cute. When Nanaw took Chase to school on Monday morning, she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do about several things: his water bottle, signing in, notifying the teacher about whether he was buying his lunch and signing up for milk. But together, Chase and Nanaw figured everything out. Nanaw stayed for a few minutes to watch Chase and the other children at his table work on puzzles. In the afternoon, Mama and Nanaw went to school to help with the boys and girls going out to see the eclipse. It was very exciting. The first time they went outside and put on their eclipse glasses, only a tiny sliver of the sun was covered by the moon. The next time they went out, it was a bigger sliver. The final time they went outside, they stayed till the whole sun was covered by the moon. It got dark outside. The street lights came on, and the night time insects started making their noises. The birds were flying around, going back to their nests. They were very confused, thinking it was night time. In the morning, the class had made 2017 eclipse hats. Then during one of the times between their times outside, they worked on a project that had the earth, the sun and the moon, and you could move the sun and the moon to make the eclipse. All in all, it was a great experience for everyone, and Mama and Nanaw had a super time.
